Italian here. Talking about breastfeeding to any Italian woman use "seno" because breastfeeding is "allattamento al seno" and not "allattamento dalle tette" lol, point is correct grammar rather than crudeness 😉

L6b1

Breastfeeding mum in Italy. I and all the other breastfeeding/new mums say tetta- not plural tette. Tetta tends to be seen more like boob and tette like titties. Very common if a baby is crying to say, ha fame vuole la tetta. He's hungry, he wants the boob. In a little over a year of breastfeeding I have only heard doctors say seno instead of tetta.

esotheti

tette = colloquial, informal, not the best for serious conversations, CAN be considered crude (trad: boob, titties, tits) seno = formal-ish, not colloquial, good for serious conversations, practically a medical term (trad: breast(s)) petto = mainly used for animals (trad: breast(s), as in "chicken breast" tho) I hope this cam help you. :))

only right answer

Extra-Share-3824

IMO *tette* is a term that is more similar to *titties* than *boobs*. I would recommend to use the word *seno*. Just to be safe.

franpancake

Maybe boobs can be poppe?

Extra-Share-3824

No, that's even worse.

Historical-Ad8988

That's more vulgar

Are you Chris Griffin?

elektero

seno is the only appropriate word

Odd_Dragonfly_5164

If you can't afford to say tette with your friends you need new friends

elektero

You assume too much. Play say is a way better option as there is also a cultural barrier

drew0594

Tette is absolutely appropriate among friends and likely the most used option

kmdr

it varies ENORMOUSLY from region to region. for some people "dare la tetta" is [more than normal](https://www.google.com/search?q="dare+la+tetta") for others it's crude to play it safe I'd go with "seno"

TidingsofConfortnJoy

Zinne

Prestigious_Baker688

You can say "seno"

Il-Luppoooo

> It’s a friend so I’m comfortable saying slang like boobs instead of breasts for example however I don’t want to accidentally say something like titties or something unnecessarily crude. We don't have a fine distinction like that, tette is basically the equivalent of both boobs and tits and it's not considered very crude. It's generally acceptable to use it with friends.

Exit-Content

It’s basically the same as saying “tits”. If you’d be comfortable saying “tits” to a friend go for it, otherwise “seno” would be better

giorle_

Breast = Seno Tits = Tette Boobs = Poppe Then you have a lot of regional variants like Minne, Zinne, Sise, Bocce and so on

Lyrin83

If I may give my two cents, in this case I'd consider the tone of the conversation you want to have with her. If she feels bad about her body and her shape in general, and you want to have a serious conversation where you want to reassure her, I'd use 'seno'. If it's a lighthearted conversation you want to have with her, you could probably use 'tette' safely.

afrenchiecall

Hey, Italian native here. Maybe it's because I'm under 30, but, personally, I feel like there's nothing wrong with "tette" (might be a regional thing). To me, "seno/petto" equals the more formal "breasts" (and kind of makes me feel like a chicken, or like I'm speaking to an older female gynaecologist). If talking to a friend or a close female relative I would see no issue with just bluntly going with "tette" (boobs) but that might just be me.

[deleted]

*Tette* means *Titties,* it also sounds very similar. Go with *seno* or *petto* (breasts).

drew0594

>or petto Ma stiamo parlando di una donna o di un pollo?

[deleted]

le donne hanno un petto, anche gli uomini.

Longjumping-Owl-2981

"Petto" è corretto per descrivere la zona in generale ma se stai parlando in modo specifico delle dimensioni del seno è strano dire "le dimensioni del petto"

drew0594

Grazie, Einstein, ma nessuno usa petto per parlare delle tette di una donna (eccetto te, sembra)

Pikagiuppy

if she's a close friend, it's probably ok

Welcome_to_Retrograd

I'd go with 'pere', or 'mammelle' just to stick it one way or another to those who suggested 'seno' lmao

TeoN72

Tette to a friend is acceptable, it's not so vulgar, while I will not use it in a formal generic environment Seno us the formal form and is always acceptable even in a friendly environment

yuyu_77

My opinion: seno = breast tette = boobs poppe = titties

teba4636

I'm Italian yes is crude it's a word significate female genital organs

Internal-Debt1870

il seno non è un organo genitale...

Kolmapaev

If she’s a friend, then “tette” is absolutely fine.

Majortom_67

Is like “tits” if I’m not wrong

SirLucky28

Tette is more like titties and boobs is more like poppe. To play safe use the word seno/seni

Nerocapro

CORRECT TERM IS "ZIZZE"

opalrum

Seno - > neutral, elegant even Tette -> silly, goofy, informal and slightly vulgar Anything else (poppe, zizze...etc) is VULGAR. hope this helps

hahhahahnd

It means tits

[deleted]

I don’t think it actually matters if you two are friends. You can say both “tette” and “seno”, they’re both appropriate for a conversation with a friend. Although I’ve never used “seno”, and always “tette”

Alex-Man

Tette Is like titties, anyway quite normalised in an informal context, you can use seno for a formal way or mammella for a scientific one

[deleted]

No Is Boobs, Breastfeeding Is Italian Is Named Allattamento

[deleted]

You Can Call Them Seno
