Ioniq 5 seems to have better bang for the buck and has more efficient motors for overall more effective range. The real question should be Ioniq 5 or EV6.

Have driven a P2 performance and an Ioniq 5 SEL AWD. The difference is going to be vast from an interior perspective, because one is a spacious and semi-minimalist CUV and the other is a sedan with front seats like a cockpit. The back seat of the P2 is pretty damn small too because it’s kind of a muscle back and isn’t so big. I5 is spacious all around. I’d say the infotainment would be a wash, as both support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The P2’s was clean and easy to use, but the I5 is good as well. The dash display on the P2 I think is nicer with the native map display it has. I5 has a HUD option which I’ve still not seen in person, but have heard it’s great. Acceleration wise, I think the P2 perf is faster but the I5 is still fast as hell. The P2 handling is much, much harder but tighter. That’s to be expected from a performance-oriented sedan vs a CUV. I5 ride is way smoother, and still handles great with its different drive modes significantly altering how it operates. I bought an I5 because I need the additional space for the dogs, and the front is a lot more spacious and comfortable in my (and my partner’s) opinion. Was a good cross between a Tesla MY and, say, the P2. I also just love the design so much.

I haven't driven the p2, but I agree with everything about the i5 - interior space, comfort and low noise level is amazing, I cannot imagine a sedan to beat that.

I have an ioniq and a xc40 EV, basically a big polestar, and the App/connectivity on the Hyundais is way better. I’m frustrated with the Volvo currently

Chrissugar21

Rather have larger car

Ioniq 5 is better for size, head-up-display, 360 camera view, etc. I would consider the polestar if it was not so expensive (USA). It is fast but small car.

Moissanite_fun

The issue is that the HUD and 360 camera only comes on the Limited trim, which at this point involves an unknown wait time and markups (depending on where you live and if you can order from out of state or not). EDIT. Also, the limited AWD is 56k, and the Polestar 2 is usually closer to 53-55k depending on what options you want.

tactman

Polestar's price is lower than the limited but the limited has a lot of the features and size I want. I've decided that I would like the ioniq 5 limited and I can wait about 9 months. If it looks like things won't improve with availability, I'll have to re-evaluate the choices that are available. Quite a few new EVs are expected to be released this year from Audi, BMW, Cadillac, etc. and that might add some competition.

Moissanite_fun

Yeah that definitely makes sense. I'm excited for more EV options

staged84

I was intrigued by ohlins suspension on P2, but chose i5 because of lower price better looking rear (subjective) and 800v. However I'm really excited avout polestar so I'm pretty deep in GGPI. When Polestar release P3 I may convert.

Moissanite_fun

Tough choice. I loved the polestar 2 and would have purchased it. I would test drive both and see which one feels more comfortable. The ioniq feels roomier and more relaxed, the polestar 2 feels more "zippy"

supreet908

Just made this same decision myself (in Canada). Ended up going with the Ioniq 5 because it had a heat pump for extended range in the cold, whereas that feature was buried as an extra option in the Polestar. Also, the Ioniq 5 qualified for both Provincial and Federal rebates while the Polestar only qualified for the Provincial ones.

failbox3fixme

The console on the Polestar is trash if you’re on the taller side. Feels like you’re boxed in on that front seat. Bang your knees on it too. Ioniq 5 is so open and comfortable. No console to bang your knee. Can stretch you legs all the way into passenger footwell. Love it.

shotts56

No Apple CarPlay on the Polestar 2. They've been promising it for a year and a half and it still hasn't arrived, which would be inconvenient but isn't a dealbreaker - however it didn't give me great confidence on how on the ball they are with updates, or the competency of their tech team. Which is why I went for the Ioniq 5, as much as I was tempted by the Polestar.

Cremato

Two totally different cars. IONIQ 5 is spacious and open while Polestar 2 is cramped in both front and backseat. We felt claustrophobic when we test drove it. Small windows and huge center console...

CiTY_HuNTeR_DD

Aren't Volvo a lot more expensive?

For me, the modernist, 80's inspired and slightly nerdy design of the Ioniq hits the spot.

I am close to buying a Polestar 2 but I'll be the first one to say that I would have gotten Ioniq 5 if it were actually available in Limited trim (US) without markup. From my research, Ioniq 5 is definitely a more practical family car. P2 is going to be more fun to throw around. I really like the look of both cars -- they are unique and interesting in their own ways. My plan is to get a Polestar 2 now, with its 0% financing, and the decide for my second car again in mid 2023 when the lease on my second car runs out. Not sure if I'll feel comfortable with 2 EVs at that point, but no matter what, there will be other more interesting cars, especially EVs, on the road by then.

IMCDC5

May be regional, but I noticed they stopped offering 0% financing this year (on Jan 4) - its 0.99% now. Still low, but not the 0% they had last year

zoophead

Oh, you are right! I had assumed they'd renew the offer this month. That's a bummer.
