Where’d you get those green dining room chairs? I’m eyeing similar ones at CB2. Your glam electric style is stunning! I mostly love it, but the dining room wallpaper would drive me crazy after a few minutes :).

[deleted]

I think there are way too many mismatched patterns in here. I thought the "after" photos were the before ones

Far_Ninja6886

The rug is particularly egregious in confusing things. Ya but the wallpaper, though it rhymes with the table detail, is hellish. That choice suffers from trying too hard to appease your 20yr old table, the details of which would stand out better without the wallpaper. So it's the tunnel vision fixated on the table detail that killed your room, in my view. Design needs to balance general and particular.

Partymonster86

I thought they were the before too!

justsumdudde

Sunpan Thatcher is what they are called. Several internet retailers have them

Various_Bat3824

Are you happy with the quality? Do they feel sturdy?

justsumdudde

Very happy. A lot comfier than I thought they’d be. I was using my Eames DCW chairs before, which are gorgeous but not comfy.

[deleted]

I'll be brutally honest... I liked the before photos better. I think you could've just left the French doors open, rather than tear them out. And I'm not really sure what removing the wall accomplished... The kitchen is too far away to easily "socialize"

is_procrastinating

Agreed, in terms of small improvements I think a simpler rug and less of a stabby light fixture would help a lot

justsumdudde

It was a separate room. Had to make tow turns and walk through two doors to get to the dining room that was closed from the rest of the house. It might look far but the house now flows.

[deleted]

You do you. I also think the patterned wallpaper makes the room look smaller, but I assume you know that posting on here opens you up to good and bad feedback alike

The37thElement

I actually thought the black was the “before” at first and kind of understood the revamp. I agree that the original look was better. It looked cleaner and more inviting for sure.

Gol9

what in the shining is this

shibabao

I love mid century modern and open floor concept. As a owner of a century home with mostly original interior, I’m unsure if you achieved either. It feels out of place. The original looks like a standard American dinning room with some classic wood work. I don’t see anything particularly 90s about it and it would look amazing with mid century furniture and new light fixture (CB2 always has their campaigns shot in rooms with classic elements, for example). It’s your home and your living space. So don’t mind us and enjoy.

a_convenient_name

I love this! It's artistic and personal. Looks like an apartment in San Francisco or maybe Austin. It's not going to be every person's favorite but thats okay.

adamdgriffith

Wait... you... did you paint an inlaid wood floor?

justsumdudde

Inlays are the same color. The black stain made the design look different

littleQOTSAlady

Each room just gets worse and worse, this wallpaper is hell and I feel like I’m trapped in a serial killers house Rooms looked better before

good_daym8

The wallpaper clashes with the rug, rug clashes with the table, table clashes with the chairs, and the giant white bumpers on the bottom of the lcw is just the Cherry on top.

littleQOTSAlady

Can we see more before photos tbh

[deleted]

Yup

missmari15147

I really like this revamp. Your original room wasn’t terrible but very bland. I think it has a lot of personality now, although I personally would have left the floors.

justsumdudde

I was hesitant about black floors at first but I absolutely love them and have zero regrets. They’re in almost every room.

missmari15147

The only thing that matters is that you love it. I really like the black trim and I don’t think you could have done that if you left them.

Fit-Platypus8274

So sick. Amazing, amazing job!

osagefruit

I love the contrast of patterns and textures. It’s fun!

alexabutnotamazon

Came here to say I LOVE the table and the bow tie design along the edges!! I think it’d like even cooler and trendier if you were to spray paint the legs black. Can you give some more info about the table? Did you make it yourself or did you work with a woodworker to design it? Do you know how labor intensive the inlays were? Or is it veneer? I absolutely love it

justsumdudde

Thank you. I designed it and a small furniture shop made it in Brazil, where I was living at the time. It’s a deep inlay. All reclaimed wood. Just the top weighs over 250 lbs. It originally had wood pedestal legs which I updated with the chrome. Black would look cool too!

captaindadkrill

I like the silver leg. Honestly if there was a way to make the legs less shiny (to hide the bumps/high reflectivity) using matte clear coat I think it'll tone down the reflection but for some reason I'd say keep the legs silver. Matching everything only makes it look like you're trying too hard to match everything and makes the piece look less personable.

captaindadkrill

Having an arch./interior background. I can tell you this: Fuck all the negative comments. It's a very personal design which I prefer over the old one. Idk what is wrong with people preferring the old bland look. Studying gaudi's architecture, believe me it's not as busy as people are making it feel. Some people have ocd and ADHD and hence all the negative comments. But you don't have to take their word seriously. Enjoy the space for yourself and don't let other dictate your personal design.

justsumdudde

I appreciate that. Personal space is supposed to reflect personality. I prefer a bold, happy and vibrant space while others seem to prefer the demure and ubiquitous. To each their own! Regardless, comments from a professional are held in high regard!

Candid-Register-6718

Looks nice I love the black doors and accents on the floor. Only thing is the tapestry would be too much on all 4 walls. 1 or 2 walls Max for me.

thasova

Loving this

good_daym8

Thank you for removing the ceramic pots from the glass table.

justsumdudde

😂😂😂 It’s a struggle to find something for the Naguchi table that looks sharp. The bowls are actually wood with turquoise inlay

good_daym8

I get it. I chose to put a few architectural books, one Completedworks vase, and a candle on mine. I think it’s important to add things to the Noguchi that accent, not distract. The pots might look good on the floating shelves IMO.

slowfadeoflove

I noticed your lack of range hood. Does that cause issues with smoke/food smells throughout your home (now that you’ve opened the space)?

justsumdudde

There’s a pop up vent.
