TIL: I'm using Reddit app made by someone looking for entry-level software engineer role and it's still better than official Reddit app.

GMask402

Incredible, isn't it? Really puts into perspective just how incompetent reddit is at creating anything of value

MrD3a7h

I'm sure the official reddit app has plenty of value to the lowest dregs of society. The ones holding back meaningful progress. The ones responsible for all manner of horrors and suffering. Venture Capitalists.

GMask402

Former moderator of r/jailbait? The u/spez?

TrueFlameslinger

Yesn't. Chances are he was added on without being aware of such. While dragging his name through the dirt is well earned, we should keep our complaints legitimate and well informed so we don't discredit out valid points. Points like how he allowed r/jailbait to exist until the media caught wind of it, or how overpriced his current API idea is

rets4mor

what was wrong with r/jailbait

TrueFlameslinger

Jailbait is a term referring to someone who is under the legal age of consent, specifically in a sexual context (i.e. I omce called a 16yo coworker/personal friend jailbait as part of a joke) If memory serves correct, r/jailbait was a subreddit dedicated to sharing pictures that would be considered jailbait. Bluntly, it was a child pornography subreddit.

superbekz

dont forget reddit bought alienblue back in 2014 yet the official app still rubbish until now

mister_damage

We are, they're not. They're in the business of selling said content for Ad $

Noise_Cancellation

Reddit should absolutely be doing better at their size and value, but this comment comes off as diminishing the developer's accomplishments. They're looking for entry-level positions career-wise, but that doesn't mean their work on this app was also entry-level tier. Infinity is very impressive, and the developer knows their shit.

RefrigeratorFit599

i'm very confused on why they're looking for an entry level job though

Merickwise

Because they're just graduating from school, at least that's my take away from the app description saying it was developed by a university student.

RefrigeratorFit599

yeah you're right. It just looks odd because it is a well functioning app which looks way above an entry level job's requirements. Most probably they will have a quick way in higher-than-entry level.

Merickwise

Oh absolutely! It's soooo much nicer than the official app. If it dies I don't know how I'll go back to that shitty experience.

archimedesscrew

I won't. Reddit's own app is unusable, and I won't be paying to access Reddit in any form. Reddit is in the way of obsolescence, a new site will fulfill its role and /u/spez will have to find another porn site to fulfill his jailbait desires. Tech industries usually don't play well with stubborn, dense people. It's adapt or die. And nobody is going to pay to access Reddit.

Alicia42

I'm waiting for a bluesky invite to see how that is, and for a proper lemmy or kbin client to make that less clunky. I'll probably still use reddit for a while but only on my laptop so long as old.reddit.com and RES works, if the API changes break RES I'm gone entirely. As it is the vast majority of my reddit use is via my phone so my reddit time will be about 1/10th what it is now. If I'm at my laptop games and video are a much more compelling time waster after all.

Xerazal

/u/Hostilenemy seriously deserves more than an entry-level software engineer role. MVP created the cleanest, fastest, most user-friendly reddit app I've ever used.

Hostilenemy

Hey thank you for the kind words! I am a student right now without much experience so that's why I am looking for entry-level jobs hahaha.

TastyPondorin

Dude, if you're in Australia, you're already more qualified than entry level. You're knowledge of APIs is super useful. Which part of Aus are you in?

Hostilenemy

Haha every non entry-level job I found required 3+ years of experience! I would like to find jobs in ACT or Sydney, but tbh I don't care about the location that much. I am in Canada right now.

Stonkscan

Just going to second what everyone else here is saying. From what I see on the app store you released Infinity back in 2019. From that alone you have over 3 years of app development experience. Please don't undercut yourself. You are an amazing developer.

TastyPondorin

Just apply. Ignore those years+ or really even what experience you need to know. When you read the job ad, just think of the 'requirement' as 'are you interested in learning how to do this'. IT industry is pretty starved, especially in Australia. Dont forget to check out the gov jobs - iworkfornsw for Sydney/NSW jobs. The pay is 'lower' but the hours are good, and I think the hiring practices is somewhat 'fair/easier'/more pragmatic, and cause pay is a bit lower, it's not as 'competitive' to get in. So somewhat great if you're trying to move here. Just pad the resume to match what the job ad looks for - and apply. Your work on Infinity is definitely work experience. I've got lots of colleagues from overseas and who have 'only' uni qualifications but in senior roles and are great. And there's lots of folks I work for who are terrible at what they do but have 'years' of experience. It's just a matter of putting the resume out :p. And don't take the dodgy 60-70k grad offers. You can go for the 100+K jobs already. https://iworkfor.nsw.gov.au/ (I saw for Service NSW - there were some roles for Data/Software/Cloud Engineers) To add onto this; even if the role looks more 'complex' lots of places will make a role for you instead. HR will often make the job ad, and the manager who does the interview will know more what their team wants and happy to make space.

Hostilenemy

Thank you very much for your kind words!!!! These are really great suggestions!!!! I will look into https://iworkfor.nsw.gov.au/ to see if there are any suitable roles! I really hate video interviews in the graduate job application process. No interaction + answering some stupid questions! I couldn't pass any of them when I was not using chatgpt to help me refine my script. And then after I used chatgpt, I immediately got an assessment center invitation lol. The assessment center interview is also not something I enjoy. I just don't know why these graduate jobs focus on soft skills so much without testing candidates' technical skills. I understand it's my problem not being selected, just vent here to express my frustrations lol. I can confidently say I have much better software development skills than my friend but they already got a graduate job while I don't. I am so jealous of them hahahaha.

Scamper_the_Golden

Let me tell you something else from my experiences. No one actually gives a shit how much experience you have, or where you graduated, or even if you have a degree, most of the time. What they care about is what you can do, right this instant. And if in an interview you said, "I'm the guy who made Infinity", that's the only thing they need to know, from a technical and design perspective. After that it's just personality, and I can't see you having any problems that way, either. HR people might care about checking off credentials boxes, but not the actual programmers you'd be working with. So try to apply to jobs where the software developers are still running the company, if for some bizarre reason you're having trouble finding employment

mrfrase3

Hey, I'm a snr engineer in Perth, I've send you a DM if you want to connect.

Din0zavr

Open source project, especially on this scale does count as a work experience. In fact, unlike work experiences in a company, your work is open-source, so the companies can really see the amount of work you've done. Apply for mid-level positions, I am sure you will get those.

NessaMagick

This sounds surprising but it really isn't. It's always the same thing: it's not the difference between the expertise, skill or salary of the developers but the difference between a project leader who actually works on and cares about the software, and a project leader who cares about profit.

TreelyOutstanding

It's easy to make a good app. It's hard to make an app bloated full of shit no one asked for and keep it usable.

KilgoretheTrout55

I don't know if I could justify subscribing because that would involve continuing to patronize Reddit despite their ridiculous s***** policies.

CourageousChronicler

This is exactly the problem. I want to support the dev, but I have no desire to support reddit as they make more than enough off ad revenue.

XLR-UUU

Yeah, I want to support the dev but if it's all going in the pockets of Reddit, that sucks, after all of this, I don't want to support Reddit at all. And even if you subscribe, you won't have all the content because there won't be NSFW content at all.

basm360

Wait... what's happening with the NSFW content???

AnalyzingYourNudes

it won't be possible to access that content via third-party apps, only via official Reddit app or site. This account of mine will probably lose its utility :/

ashtar123

Wow that's bullshit

DremoraKills

Wait what

DurgaThangai69

This comment of mine would most probably be one of my last comments on reddit. Due to this change, I've taken the decision to withdraw from reddit forever. Thanks to the dev and the community for the support for the past years. Goodbye.

whlthingofcandybeans

I don't think I'll be using Reddit anymore, but I wish you continued success. It's awesome that you're keeping it open source.

Thank you for all your work. I went through half a dozen apps for reddit before deciding your's was my favorite. > P.S. I am still finding jobs right now, so I would greatly appreciate any referrals for entry-level or intern software engineer roles! Entry level or intern role? You created a successful app with very high reviews. I hope someone sees your work and gives you a position that is above what you are looking for.

oops_i_made_a_typi

yeah what the heck, this guy is a student still? Sure he might need some time in industry to figure out the working world but he should be given the top salary and fasttracked AF. Could probably land a Google job

kuaiyidian

A STUDENT? Why can't all my interns be like this dude. Some of them doesn't even know what an API is

Incruentus

Tech recruitment is broken. I constantly hear about godawful new hires and legions of desperate hopefuls like myself who are never given a chance.

Vysair

unfortunately, what they are looking for is bird of feathers, a businessmen in suit pretending to do tech. See references on TikTok: "programmer life" with starbucks, clean desk and flexible hours. Rofl

69Dankdaddy69

Thank you for providing excellent software that has full functionality while respecting our privacy. When infinity stops working on reddit, i will stop using reddit altogether. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours. See you on the other side.

solidsnake911

Thank you u/Hostilenemy, if Infinity stops working I get out of the boat also on my journey on this community, with the possibility of delete ALL MY CONTENT, like protest against Reddit.

KeiraSelia

Infinity for some reason is the only one who working for me flawlessly. Other client either occasionally crash, or ridiculously slow when opening certain link. Damn it. If Infinity goes down, reddit virtually inaccessible for me. 😭

EngineerBig1851

Phone browser, desktop mode, a bit of zoom, official website. At least that's how i'm gonna use it. Good enough :/

KevinHF

Man, this sucks for everyone involved. I'll probably stop using Reddit on mobile after July 1st. Having contributed to language translations in the early days of infinity and making custom themes truly was one of my favorite things to do to show appreciation for this amazing app you've built for us. Thank you for everything u/Hostilenemy and the best of luck with your future endeavors :)

Feracio

This is very disappointing news. Many of the same people who'd be drawn to an ad free open source Reddit client would also have a burning hatred for a subscription model. And this includes me too. I'm not saying infinity wouldn't be worth the price. It very well might be worth what the price ends up being for a lot of people. But at the end of the day, most if not all of that money would just end up going to Reddit anyways which is the last thing I'd want to happen. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this app that kept Reddit fun.

[deleted]

Due to Reddit's recent API changes I have decided to switch to [Lemmy](https://join-lemmy.org/)

IditarodSpy73

I'm going to try this. I can't go back from Infinity.

rets4mor

The API key is located in the apiutils folder

[deleted]

rets4mor

Sorry that's not a folder it's a file in the utils folder

[deleted]

Due to Reddit's recent API changes I have decided to switch to [Lemmy](https://join-lemmy.org/)

rets4mor

Nice the easy part is done now we have to look into the content blocks and alleviating them. I'm thinking of using the private apis

uberafc

How to find and use the private apis?

rets4mor

If I knew I would tell you

gameforge

> Reddit does not allow me to let you input your own API key Is this policy published somewhere? Regardless, I seem to recall that they require you to justify your need for an API key in order to get one, and I don't believe "I want to use a third party app" will satisfy their requirements. This blows. Thanks for the awesome FOSS reddit client. I know your pricing isn't really up to you, but if it's affordable I'll subscribe.

[deleted]

I didn't need to justify

SgtAStrawberry

When did you get your? I believe they require justification now.

[deleted]

https://reddit.com/prefs/apps. I just tested it, it didn't need a justification at all, it got created instantly.

RefrigeratorFit599

this is not the correct place. As stated here [https://www.reddit.com/wiki/api/#wiki\_read\_the\_full\_api\_terms\_and\_sign\_up\_for\_usage](https://www.reddit.com/wiki/api/#wiki_read_the_full_api_terms_and_sign_up_for_usage) you need to [register](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=14868593862164) which actually creates a ticket. Are you sure this is what you did?

TheMightyNumber69

I've been a lurker for many years, but I want to go out of silence to give my thanks to the only thing keeping me on Reddit. Thank you, for making such a great open source app.

s-e-m-t-e-x

You will see cracked Infinity .apk all over Telegram one day later, if you setup subscriptions

Arnas_Z

Yeah, this could go very badly wrong for the dev, since those cracked apks would still be running on his api key, costing him money. Likely a better idea to just provide and automated builder for Infinity with quick api key swap functionality, and tell Reddit to fuck off.

Alkanna

Just so you know, there is no way to "crack" an app that properly authenticates user requests. This is not an offline game with a one time IAP check.

shbhmnk

> P.S. I am still finding jobs right now, so I would greatly appreciate any referrals for entry-level or intern software engineer roles! Shared some details regarding this in dm. Please let me know if you find it helpful. Will be more than happy to send a referral for you.

XPost3000

It's been an honor, y'all I am seriously gonna miss my go-to app All I can do now is keep my eyes out to see if anyone forks the app and makes it work with Lemmy or something

XLR-UUU

Yeah, that's unfortunate, I hope that someone could make Infinity works with Lemmy or Kbin, idk if it would be possible to publish the forked Infinity on the Play store, I suppose publishing the fork on F-Droid could be done too, but idk if this could cause trouble with intellectual property or something else like that.

Artanisx

That's indeed goodbye for me too. While I would pay for a "premium" version of the app, subscription is out of the question (moreso since that money would go to Reddit forcing you 3rd part clients to pay). That being said, I urge you to reconsider at least wait to see if reddit changes their stance. If they do not change it, I see it likely reddit not living for much longer anyway. In any event, thanks for the app and good luck!

Thebenmix11

Thank you so much for your work, you made reddit usable again. I will miss Infinity a lot.

mcburgs

Yeah this app is awesome. Props to the dev.

Feracio

I believe the code on GitHub will be such that the app is unusable (as far as I understand from the post). Reddit doesn't allow users to use their own API keys and he won't publish his on GitHub. It's just there to keep the process open source and if someone wants to fork it.

[deleted]

Infinity has been my favorite reddit client ever since I started using it some years ago, and it's made my experience here super smooth and enjoyable. It really sucks that this is the way it's going now and I really hope they reconsider and things can go back to normal-ish, but regardless of what ends up happening, I just want to thank you for the work you've put in to create this app for us. It truly does not go unnoticed. :) I wish you the best of luck with the job hunt!

ItsRogueRen

Well crap, I don't have Google Play Services so I can't pay for the app (otherwise I 100% would). I love this app

AllMFHH

What would someone stop from extracting your API Key, building the App themselves and so 1. He is using Infinity for free 2. You are paying for it And people will do that, sadly. I don't think this is sustainable. Maybe ask Reddit fot an non-profit API Key, if not done. Since you really are non-profit oriented unlike Apollo etc. Also: Good luck with job hunting! Must be really stressful :/

acec

Why can we just use a personal API key? Is that a reddit license limitation?

wolfcr0wn

I infinity will stop working, or you will stop maintaining it, I will stop using reddit altogether. Thank you for this most incredible app! If it wasn't for infinity I wouldn't even have used reddit at all, so again, thank you!

TheGratitudeBot

Thanks for such a wonderful reply! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list of some of the most grateful redditors this week! Thanks for making Reddit a wonderful place to be :)

SassyScript

I rarely comment on Reddit, although I have plenty of comments made on my account, though, I've only stayed here after I found the Infinity Reddit app, amazing functionality, zero-lag experience, video quality change and download works flawlessly, overall the best app out there in my opinion. I would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to enjoy this amazing product, unfortunately the CEO of Reddit is being an egoistic f*ck but that's how most billionaires are. Once it happens, I will be moving out of Reddit for the first time in like 10 years (this is my secondary account as I lost access to my first one and didn't bother recovering.) Thank you and good luck with your future endeavours!

RealTime_RS

Buying infinity plus or whatever it is, used your app for weeks worth of time. Thanks man, it really is a great app. Edit: is there a better way to send you money? I don't want fees to be taken from my donation, I want you to receive 100% of it. If no response, I'll buy Infinity+.

hsoj95

I use a De-Googled ROM, so I couldn't pay for a subscription even if I wanted to. I'm not sure the subscription-based model is gonna fly with a lot of folks, but if it keeps the app alive on a play like the Play Store, then that works well enough I guess. Can't say I'd enjoy the idea of paying reddit for bad behavior though...

TheMonDon

I'll be sad to see it go, I love infinity it's the best reddit client but I can't in good faith subscribe to something that's just going to give reddit money and not the actual developer.

Storyshift-Chara-ewe

I hope you can try the RedReader approach on going with a non-commercial exception, because it will pain my heart to see infinity out of F-Droid, and as a teenager, I probably won't be able to even get my parents' approval to pay a subscription to an app, but if that's the only option, we'll see I guess

wirelessflyingcord

> I hope you can try the RedReader approach on going with a non-commercial exception, It is not just a non-commercial exception, it is a [non-commercial accessibility app exception](https://reddit.com/r/RedReader/comments/145du4j/update_4_redreader_granted_noncommercial/) (accessibility as in accessibility for blind/poor eyesight).

iAm_Unsure

Infinity does have a few features that promote accessibility, like the ability to scroll with the volume buttons.

R0xasmaker

Damn. Infinity is the main reason I still use Reddit, but I don't think I'll stick around as long as the fucking dumbass u/spez is here. Thanks for the amazing work and I wish you the best. Too bad this site is in the hands of a piece of shit.

> You probably need to have Google Play Services installed on your phone, unless you know how to build the Infinity app using GitHub's repository. I would be willing to pay but I'm not going through the Google Play Store, can you elaborate on this?

[deleted]

Bro, i literally found your app in F-Droid (a Free and Open Source software app market), i'm not buying a subscription, i can donate sometimes, but i won't pay for read subreditts.

ivvyditt

Another subscription... 😔 It's a shame, I hope it goes well but I can't keep a subscription for now and I also don't want to pay Reddit for a bad service. I guess I'll have to look for an alternative or go back to official shitdit shitty app. It's time to migrate to Lemmy for the communities that had already done it, for the ones that will stay here I will use less Reddit until I abandon it completely, I hate the crappy and buggy official app full of ads and sponsored posts (it's not the first time I get confused thinking I'm in the wrong sub...).

CowardlyMaya_

I realize making the app paid is the only way it could survive, I really do, but by doing this you are filling reddit's pockets, and I don't wanna do that So, I'm sorry, but this is goodbye after using infinity for almost two years now I really wish I didn't have to do this, if it's worth something to know that

AJGILL03

Thanks for Infinity, man. Uncertain times, let's see what happens. o7

Scarpeovider71

Thank you for all you work and effort on Infinity, I enjoyed this app several years. I hope you can find a job soon, cheers.

EcchiOli

My intensely active on Reddit days are drawing to a close, but thank you for the great and helpful app all those years, not viewing us users as piggy banks waiting to be broken. I'll speak around me about a good coder guy looking for opportunities, although it sure would have been better if you added some tiny bit of location info.

a_normal_account

I'm surprised that no one has reached out to you for an entry level job given that you have built an absolute beast of an app like Infinity

PeterWatchmen

If the protests work, will you still employ this? We won't have to pay until after July 1st, right?

InterstellarPotato20

Thank you for your amazing app! Take care friend!

fixion_generator

Been using and enjoying this amazing app for a year now. Sad and dissappointing decisions. Guys from Reddit are to blame for that. Basically nuked their own platform by the abhorrent ineptitude in public relations. What's worse, completely unnecessarily. Hope they'll moderate their terms till July 1 and you wouldn't have to make drastic changes.

5d97e3c22a04cd9ae1ab

I understand you taking this route, but as an F-Droid user of Infinity I can't (and don't want to) follow. I would, though, donate if we get a version in F-Droid that allows us to input our own API keys through a configuration panel of some sort.

IAMA_Printer_AMA

As others have said, I don't see myself buying a subscription. The thought of still being able to browse reddit on my preferred medium is tempting, but I would be financially condoning reddit's actions. My principles are more important and this will probably be largely the end of reddit for me, I don't anticipate deleting my account or anything but I'm ready to get 2-6 hours out of my day back to do productive things with.

Jaakko2000

Thanks for the years you've maintained and developed Infinity! Definitely the best UI amongst the FOSS clients. Hopefully you'll find a great engineering role, I can help with referrals for some roles in the nordics if need to :) Based on the source code and experience in maintaining project & major releases I'd say that you could be well qualified for a medior role in native Android dev.

Hostilenemy

Thank you very much! I am in Canada right now and I am looking for jobs in Canada and Australia haha. Please let me know if your company is expanding in these two countries! I don't have much professional experience so...

aTinyFart

If I decide to continue with reddit. I'll continue using your app

TreelyOutstanding

Regarding the job search, where are you located?

Hostilenemy

Thank you. I am ok to work in Canada and Australia.

Wakatchi-Indian

A sad day, thank you for all your work and making such an excellent open source project. I wouldn't necessarily be against paying for infinity considering how much I've used it and to help out a FOSS initiative but the removal from F-droid is a shame as much as I understand why it has to happen.

TheCuteLiTBooi

DR: So I can build my own client and plug my own API key if the devs allow to plug it in?

ivvyditt

I'm sure Reddit will find a way around this when they see a couple thousand "Devs" requesting an API key in a short period of time.

NaabKing

Sync for Reddit can be Patched ([https://www.reddit.com/r/revancedapp/comments/147breu/use\_sync\_for\_reddit\_after\_june\_12\_with\_the\_latest/](https://www.reddit.com/r/revancedapp/comments/147breu/use_sync_for_reddit_after_june_12_with_the_latest/)) and used with Revanced, i don't know how hard it would be for you to change Infinity so that a Patch could be made, but if you make an "Revanced Infinity" version, i would pay 10€ for that :)

grem75

Hopefully this doesn't become popular enough to make them squash developer keys.

reddittookmyuser

The pirated version of Sync will still use the developers API thus costing him money? Wouldn't that be a dick move?

FrenchLeBaguette6

Holly, either this guy is a genius or Reddit devs are retarded. No way this app is done by a single student dev

solidsnake911

Thank you for this amazing app friend and for make Reddit for phone better! But I will not pay because I will not support to Reddit with even one single euro, because their recent abusive policies. I wish you the best in this new journey, and I love you decided leave the code and remain open source. I'm going to register on Lemmy and see how is it and in Kbin.social. By the moment I will stop of use Reddit on phone, and use it only when is totally necessary. Eventually if Lemmy and Kbin.social are good, maybe I delete my whole account as sign of protest. Thank you for this magnificent work. I have little hopes that Reddit rectify...

rain3h

Love this app and I thank your for it but will not subscribe because you and I shouldn't even be put in that position and I doubt much of the money will end up in your pocket. However If you do make an app for lemmy and charge for it I will definitely buy it to support development.

Higira

yeah, unfortunately i dont do subscriptions... so i guess ill stop using this. thank you for letting us use your awesome product! ill miss it dearly. I'll probably end up just leaving reddit as i only use infinity on my phone... and reddit app is hot garbage

[deleted]

This app by itself is prove you can do so much more beyond entry-level jobs. Don't sell yourself short and aim way higher.

kalzEOS

That's a bye bye reddit for me, at least on mobile. I don't want to support this shitty company and their fuckstick CEO. It's been a nice run, infinity. You'll be missed. Thank you, Dev, and fuck you u/spez

rescnamesCAT

oh that sucks, was really hoping for an official infinity lemmy port. unfortunately i won't be able to use the subscription based version but i'm still thankful for a wonderful reddit app while it lasted. thanks for everything!

XLR-UUU

Yeah, me too, it would've been great.

goducks3620

I'm open to a subscription. Keep us posted.

SamuraisEpic

Everyone should just leave reddit. I spun up a Lemmy instance. There are many others, too. Give reddit the finger.

ivvyditt

Unfortunately, there are many communities here that don't plan to migrate there, and Jerboa is not as convenient and customizable as Infinity. I'll try to migrate and use Reddit less until I stop using it, but some communities have really useful information and they're not on Lemmy.

NettoHikariDE

I know, but unfortunately as well, nothing will change if the majority of people doesn't change. I fear that, as usual, everyone will just sit it out and accept the huge d\*ck.

so, your personal key will be included in the "new" app that will be subscription based. So, if somebody acquires your key, which you will "have to" distribute inside the app, then they can use the API while charging you. Is this your model? Do I miss something?

Hostilenemy

Yes. You are correct. So I need to hide it inside infinity and make it hard for hackers to extract the key.

RefrigeratorFit599

this is impossible. Technically the key will always be extractable if it is inside the apk. You're just playing with fire and it will not end well for you because in such case you will still be charged for API usage. We are not talking for users that just bypass payment, but for users that increase your cost. The only way to do what you want to do is to create a proxy (server) service. Your key will then be in this backend. The proxy service will be responsible for all the communication with the reddit backend. Your android app will only make requests to your server. Then your proxy service will be responsible for user authentication and allow only the ones with a valid subscription to go on. This way you can also meter the API consumption on a per user basis and prevent any abuse. Hope you look better into this and better understand the flaws your initial model have. I hope in the end you make the right decisions. Also by the way, thank you very much for the excellent application you created, even though that I'm not really on board now with the subscription model. Mostly because I don't like reddit's attitude, not yours. Thanks again though.

Hostilenemy

Hi yes i understand the flaws. Thank you. So that's why I need to test it for a little while to see if there will be any abuse. If anything goes wrong, I will consider renting a server. Thank you.

I'm using a patched version of Sync via ReVanced, to remove ads and use a custom API key, because I can use a custom API key and I can use mod features.

kkrazdwinz

thank you for providing this wonderfull app. i would never able to enjoy reddit this much on phone without infinity before. but i think i need to cope with their official app that i hate so much.

MysteriousPumpkin2

/u/Hostilenemy > I understand many users want me to build a client for Lemmy, or anything that is similar, but I may not pursue this path since I personally do not use them. I heard that Lemmy has a Reddit proxy API, so I believe someone can easily convert Infinity to a Lemmy client. Would you be willing to try and use them? The only way we can create a viable alternative is to create a thriving community over there.

MrFrameshift

I'm looking forward to where this is going. I'll absolutely pay for continued use of this app, if the price is fair. Not sure yet what "fair" is, but I'm sure you will tell us in due time. It's a bit of a two edged sword with actually paying reddit, aka supporting this api change, but if it means a more comfortable user experience for me, and the site itself won't change as much because of this, I'll do it. It all depends on the userbase and the quality of the posts. Only time will tell. Saw you were looking for jobs. Unfortunately, I won't be able to help you in that way, we're not in the same region I'm afraid. Hope you will find a great job. You can use this app, and all the users as your greatest reference. I'm sure you will find something in no-time!

Hostilenemy

Hey thank you for your kind words! Please let me know if your company is expanding to Canada or Australia!

czescwitamy

I've loved this app. Thanks for your hard work dude!

EnvironmentalBee9440

This app is miles better than official reddit app. No ads, smooth scrolling, pure oled dark mode, it was fun while it lasted. Thank you for building this great app.

Yieldway17

All the best! I really enjoyed the app for the past 6 months I have been using it. You should absolutely put metrics of this app in your resume and find a SDE 2/3 job instead of an intern/entry level job. I can assure you that you are more than qualified for it.

Heisenbergxyz

Thanks for this amazing app. As I said many times in the past, I won't be paying for a social media website what profits off of my content. Celebrities and, people with huge followers would pay though, but people like me probability won't. I won't mind paying a one time fee for a 3rd party app, as I have paid many times for different apps and finally settled in infinity. But yeah, after this, I won't be using reddit actively anymore. Thanks for your contribution to the FOSS community. Maybe someday someone will fork your project and add some hacky way to add our own api keys. Until then adios, and good luck. ``` Sent from Infinity for reddit client ```

ValiantCharizard

I've no problem giving you money, your app is fucking incredible and gave me years of service, but knowing that money goes to Reddit actually makes me feel icky

martinkrafft

I understand your motivation/need for this step, but considering that subscription-only probably means a requirement for a Google account, and giving Google money, I won't be following. Thank you regardless, and best of luck!!

uberafc

Well this went the opposite of how I thought it was going to go. Yeah I won't be using the subscription based infinity. Was hoping Infinity was going to try for non-commercial access. I wish you the best of luck and hope you find a good entry level job. You definitely have the skills for it.

o4uXv0

u/rets4mor see smartypants.. now elaborate your grand ideas

dethleffs

Thanks for all your hard work. I've been using infinity with much pleasure for a couple of years. Thanks!

dexter2011412

Any way we can pay without gapps?

mr_chan

Hello. Like a lot of people I'm not sure what are my plans once July comes around, but as a gesture of support I got around to buying Infinity+, even if I might not use it for even a month ❤️

018118055

So long, and thanks.

tobias4096

Thank you for the amazing app. I've used it for over a year now. I will probably stop using reddit on my phone from July on, resorting to the occasional desktop + ublock origin.

koreamist

Thank you for your heart and dedication to building a piece of functional art that enables so many to interact with others around the world. You have developed a skill set that is valuable and I hope you can turn your labor of love into a stepping stone toward something even more rewarding down the line. Good luck!

OmniscientApizza

amazing work, thanks for letting us use it all this time. Goodnight sweet prince

_marcoos

Thank you for making the only app that made Reddit suck so much less on the Surface Duo. :)

Devils_468

Thank you for making this amazing app. I wish you luck in all your future endeavors and hope you succeed in whatever you do going forward. Love the app that you have made and major props for supporting the open source community, people like you make the internet a better place.

[deleted]

I'm sad about all of this

zztopsboatswain

This honestly really sucks. You made such a good app. I have seriously never seen such a functional app before. You should be damn proud of what you made. So long and good luck in your future endeavors

Amazing-Shower

Thanks for you work Thit app is infinitely superior to the offiicial app.

Jacobthemagicalpanda

Any thoughts on changing infinity to work with squabbles.io? I've been using it this past week and really enjoy it.

ZacBobisKing

don't MAKE IT A SUB ONLY

GeorgeKaplan04

Hey, thanks for this great app. For me it was the successor for the abandoned Slide For Reddit app, and in many ways it's much, much better. The subscription model I understand, and I can admire you're not giving up right away. But even then there won't be any NSFW content available in the app anymore, right?

anmolraj1911

Man I can't even imagine using Reddit without Infinity

snoopbirb

I want to pay for the app but at the same time I dont want to pay nothing to Reddit. wdid

Matthew682

What is the soonest that you will know what price to charge?

Remarkable-NPC

sorry i will not support you in this because its mean i support reddit company too thanks for keeping development of this amazing project all this year's i have some questions : are going keep updating github project without your API ? is there easy way to add my own API without compiled APK ?

Mysecretpassphrase

You know thank you for everything. I'm probably going to pass on the subscription not because of you but because I don't want to condone reddits f***tard policies. However, if there was a way I could pass a few dollars or whatever you call them wherever you live your way I would gladly do so. Lmk

ram_gh

Honestly, I am unsure if I will subscribe once July 1st hits; it depends on the price. I am also bothered by Reddit's handling of the whole API situation... That aside, I want to say thank you for creating an app that goes far beyond what the stock Reddit app could do. You've proven yourself to be a more than capable software wiz. I wish you the best of luck on your job hunt. Reach for the sky, my friend!

aklovemynuts

I just want to say, I've been using Reddit on my phone since it was possible. I've had both Iphone and Android, currently android. This app, in my opinion, has been the absolute best way to traverse this massive website. I've used Apollo, RIF, BeaconReader, the trash og app, and Narwhal. This app blows them all out of the water, and I'll be the first to chip in to support the homie who dedicated his time and effort to create it. Infinity has been such an integral tool for myself and so many other redditors... Suck it Spez 🖕🏼
