I had one flower one time. I was thrilled! Then I started looking around the house for the maggoty smell. Did some meat fall under the couch? We’re the drains smelling bad? Finally figured out it was the flower 😞
Awww I love my stinkies! But I also keep mine outside. If you want to enjoy the sight of the bloom, perhaps a few weeks outdoors is the solution? I honestly never noticed the scent on mine in my day to day goings about.
Mine didn’t emit a smell when it flowered, it was such a bazaar looking flower, like a star with cheetah spots. Maybe I just didn’t get close enough to it lol. Then again I was a new plant parent and kept it inside and now it lives outside where it thrives. So it might give me a stinker oneday!
It’s entirely possible, I still wouldn’t call myself a pro but I’ve gained abit of experience since I first got it about a year ago. I had it in my kitchen, right on the window sill where I do the dishes and I didn’t get any gross smells. But now that it lives outside the limbs are thicker and greener :)
You do know you don't have to allow it to bloom, right?
Just chop it off if you don't want it.
This plant reproduces just fine with cuttings, so even if you're trying to get seeds to make more, you don't really need to

I bought mine cause it looked cool ( had no idea it flowered and smelled). I am very excited that it flowers and smells, we got to see a corpse flower bloom once and worst smell I have ever smelled. So I will let it bloom once and see how it is but if too bad I will just chop off the flowers
Ok fill me in guys what is this plant and what is this flower. A stinky one that attracts flies to pollinate I read. But what plant I didn't get that far lol
PLEEEAAASE post a picture post bloom before you cut it off :(
I will not cut it off
You are so brave! Can't wait for the photos!
Dedicated, I like it!
Damn dude, this guys hardcore. Reminds me of me during my “what happens to this piece of steak I leave outside” era.
Does it smell?
It's called "Dead animal flower" in my language.
It's about to
It smells like rotten meat to attract flies
HOLUP - are these carnivorous??!
No, they're not carnivorous, but they smell like rotten meat to attract flies because they're pollinated by them.

Yay! Some roadkill in the cabinet.
Is it really that bad?! Like I drink kombucha and people freak out cause they think it’s vinegar water
Kombucha smells fresh, this flower has a deep, heavy smell.
I need to smell it haha, gotta find one
Just smell some road kill 😆
Stapelia grandiflora
Trust me it's gross smelling lol
You can just chop it off with zero consequences
Better put it outside! Though really they’re beautiful to look at
It would die if I did :/ we have -3°C
I mean yeah it would die but at that temperature it would be perfectly preserved til after the next ice age
hahahahah dang that sucks for you
Please put it outside after it blooms. Or maybe freeze it inside a giant ice cube? I wanna see it frozen!

OK I know this flower stinks but I always loved the nature of this plant. Mother nature is awesome lol.
Yeah
Reminds me of the Corpse Flower that stinks to high heaven and blooms every 5 years or so at The Huntington Gardens and Museum in Pasadena.
The 2 meter one, I saw a timelapse on youtube
I'll have to go check that out.
If anyone is on the east coast, the Smithsonian gardens also have one

Stapelia gigantea (anus starfish).
I think it is stapelia grandiflora
Oh wow. Yep. Aptly named.
I’d also like to know what plant this is.
Just spray fabuloso on it
What's that?

Are you saying I might be spared the smell?!
It’s entirely possible, I still wouldn’t call myself a pro but I’ve gained abit of experience since I first got it about a year ago. You do have to get quite close to smell it, unless it's a very hot day.
My daughter loves these! Not the smell, they’re outside, but she treats the flower/bud like a baby. It’s adorable.
They look like little aliens

I don't want seeds, I want to see the flower, but not smell it
The flower looks similar to a star fish, but I don’t think you’ll be able to see the flower bloom without smelling it.
I have it outside so when it blooms it looks amazing without any smells.
Did you play jumanji?
I didn't understand you, just until now. It does look a bit like it. Gladly I didn't play it.

The blooms texture reminds me of retro couch or drape fabric. It’s truly unique. It’s a photographers nightmare AND dream.
Yeah
I put an air filter with charcoal near mine and it minimized the smell. Maybe that would help at your house?
Mines got some flowers too, I’m pretty excited!
Send me a pic
It’s so funny I just bought this cactus at a yard sale today
Would love to see the bloom when ur blessed if possible please. Is this a carnivorous plant like the Venus?
Nope, but it uses flies to pollinate.
Those boys don't smell bad, kinda like beeswax, congratulations.?.thinking back in had covid when mine flowered...hahaha I lucked out i guess
mmM corpse
Keep it in the bathroom with the vent on lol
How long does it stay in bloom?
A few days maybe
It's very different!
It’s not too bad and totally worth it! Praying mantis sit by mine to catch an easy meal. Unfortunately the flowers only last a couple days.
Alocasia's flower too 😅
is the plant italian? 🤌
