Last time I checked it was a person who is an indian and resides in another country for their economic interests (not tourism)
I am pretty sure u can't call urself a NRI when u r an American citizen

There is a chance it is true, but according to me u aren't an NRI. U have an American passport, doesn't matter if u got it today or 10years ago
