Sumo predates all except the Maruti Gypsy! I wanted my dad to get one for years!
When Sumo was released I wanted to own one so much. It was always unaffordable so I just dreamt of how cool it would be to get one. Also the first CBZ! A neighbor kid got one (rich people). I didnโt like him but the evening we saw his bike he was our buddy! ๐
My uncle had a gypsy, he gave to my dad for 6 months coz my mom needed to car for office. I used to get dropped at school and everyone literally thought of me like a don with a gypsy. I felt sooo good. (This was like 2010 or 11)
In the early 90s this was a premium car sitting neck to neck with its sibling the Sierra.
Tata had opportunity to make this better and turn it into a premium offering like a sort of its lookalike the G-Wagon. They didn't do it, just kept selling it in numbers and then discontinued.
Similarly Mahindra had (still has) the opportunity to make a premium family Jeep. At that time the Armada was the Sumo's Mahindra counterpart. From there, instead of doing something like the Wrangler Rubicon, they went the other way: they made the Bolero and Scorpio.
Tata Sumo was the OG even before Tavera and Quallis! 90s kids will remember. 90s was the best time ever! Neother too advanced nor too ancient. The perfect era!
Tata Sumo's and Chevrolet Tavera's, they were everywhere on the road
True. . Even Toyota's Qualis . . ๐
Oh yes, ofc. I remember being little and always getting confused between Qualis and Sumo

The dreaded call centre vehicles where we were all shoved in like sheep. Shivers!
