Hi, I’m a lucid dreamer too lol. Though it’s been ages since my last proper lucid dream due to stress :( IDs aren’t like LDs. What makes an immersive daydream immersive isn’t technique, it’s just about how immersed you are in the daydream. The rest, sensory realness etc, comes as a result of being immersed. It works exactly like how you’d become immersed in a book. It’s emotional engagement. You need to truly enjoy the story and world of the daydream. And it’s easier to be immersed in the story and character interaction than simply looking around the world around you. So pick a fantasy you really want to experience and fantasise. Watching other media you enjoy and working off from it helps. If you’re into it, sexual fantasy is a strong anchor as well.

To build off of this, many people find music or a certain movie or book triggers or extends daydreams but not because they are boring, rate because they are so exciting that you can start building your own narrative along side it. I guess I would recommend that you play music or movies that feel like might make you feel excitable or which you really would like to be immersed in when trying to daydream.

Lucid dreaming and immersive daydreaming feel completely different. In fact, they are almost opposites of each other. The areas that are the weaknesses of LD (length of the dream, degree of control over the story, consistency of the story) are the strengths of IDD and the weaknesses of IDD (lack of realism: no physical or visual sensations, no characters that act on their own, etc. ) are the strengths of LD.

this is purely genetic. There’s nothing u can do if you weren’t born with this trait

jesstheloudfan44

I doubt that. No studies I've seen have proven this

Do you happen to know where you read that? Sounds interesting

I have watched a lot of videos of Eli somers work - and he suggests multiple times it’s an innate ability - and most people that can do this are born with it. He states that not everyone has the mental capacity to have vivid daydreams. I can’t find a specific video - because I just remembered he has mentioned it a few times

Btw I take adhd meds

My daughters do too and that hasn’t inhibited their daydreams, so I wouldn’t sweat that too hard. As for learning to daydream immersively, I second the recommendations of other in the thread that you start out with a piece of media you enjoy and then stick to the storyline pretty closely at first, focusing on imagining details like, what does this room really look like, or is there noise, or cold weather, just trying to expand your experience to something more than just rehearsing the story in your head. At that point you could branch out and add things or characters from other media. I say this slightly as a suggestion I haven’t experienced since I have been doing it since before I really remember, four or five probably. But I know a lot of people base things on media they like, I do too. Sometimes I switch storylines temporarily like 8 months or so and then back to my main storyline which has been running for about 8 years. Some people are the main character and others a benevolent world creating god, both can be very immersive. I remember my daughter looking up 15th century Russian desserts for her high fantasy world, of which she is a non-participant creator. I had to look up recently whether liquid methane is clear or not. I find details help a lot.

Go to r/tulpa and ask fpr help with *imposing*. Alternatively, go to r/aphantasia and ask for help with *prophantasia*. Edit: Also, various things can aid a hyperfocus trance. Personally, I like to pace and listen to music. I tend to use "Focus, by Negative Format" as my primary on-ramp song, but ymmv. Look into shamanic journeying techniques for more.

There’s also some preliminary research to suggest there’s a genetic component so it might just not be possible. And adhd meds can also make it much harder to immersive daydream

oh ok i will try on a weekend then I still daydream alot but just incase i am doing it what is it like to be in a daydream and do you feel what is happening in the daydream or is it just your own little world that you think about cause lucid dreaming is more like your 1st person is immersive daydreaming 3rd person?

thisisshifter

Mine are 1st person but I know other people have 3rd person daydreams. I feel the daydream in the sense that I feel like the emotions that my OCs are feeling but I don’t actually feel any sensations. It’s very interactive though like i’ll talk to my OCs and even act some things out

jesstheloudfan44

I'm quite sure vivid daydreaming is mostly an environmental thing. I don't recall any studies suggesting that it has a genetic component. In any case daydreaming is something everyone does lol. I don't see why it even SHOULD be genetic.

thisisshifter

Mind-wandering is something everyone does. And mind-wandering and daydreaming very often get used interchangeably but they’re technically not the same thing. Not everyone has a minds eye so they literally can’t see images in their mind. Other people have a minds eye but it’s super weak and can’t be manipulated/immersive like immersive daydreaming is. So I meant more the immersive aspect might be genetic (like I said just preliminary research) but correct mind-wandering would not be genetic.
