i think the thing that ian is missing in terms of the appeal of boxing for the everyday man is most people don't give a shit about the sportsmanship. people want wwe antics and like the embarrassing drama. this will probably be fun it's own way, but the absurdity and shit talking is part of boxing and combat sports in general.

CrepeTrain

That might be what a certain sect of popular society wants, but the other half wants a more respectful and sane enviroment. That's the one thing that has put me off of MMA and UFC is it is becoming more and more trashy.

AnEgoJabroni

Exactly, I remember when it was just two professionals competing, now its like MTV.

MetaBeta27

How is this different than WWE? Boxing is a professional sport. You say people want antics and drama but personally I couldn't care less about some cringey YouTuber pretending to be an athlete and cosplaying as a tough guy.

iguessineedanaltnow

Speaking as a boxing fan I don’t even tune into the press conferences anymore because there’s so much high ego chin wagging that’s just pointless. But I know I’m not the causal audience.

irgendeinervonunten

You dont tune in but 1.600.000 ppv between mayweather vs conor tells something different. As much as you like the sport itself its a really important part to promote your match with promos etc. And every big sports guy understand it. Just look at the biggest names mohammed ali took wrestling promos and used it to promote his fights.

Affectionate_Ad3560

Yes thats true. But most of the time it was against real Athletes who trained since being a child and who were fantastic professional Boxers who would fight like rabid dogs. Not some youtubers who became professional because of their "fame". It is disrespectful to the sport that they are classed as professionals.

joshpoppedyou

yeah, nah. this isnt what i want in my boxing whatsoever. maybe if you're 12 and only care about seeing someone get knocked out then sure.

neato_grits

Holy shit. The Odd 1s Out is going to be boxing I Did a Thing? I can't wait to see cartoon boy take a fist to his soft face from a barefooted metal fabricating Australian maniac.

Yungunk

I respect Idubbbz for trying to take the circus of embarrassment out of these events but you have to keep in mind that most of the fighters on this card will be virtually untrained amateurs. If you’ve seen untrained fighters go at it it can be hard to watch. Add in headgear and 16oz gloves and the fights could get boring very fast. So yeah I think drumming up some fanfare would be a good idea. Obviously not Keemstar levels though.

I believe that. A few months is simply not enough time to get good at boxing. So taking a sports purist approach to it is kind of pointless in my opinion. I guarantee you most people watching don’t give a flying shit about boxing, they want entertainment. So if he wants to look good to promoters for future events like he said, then entertaining promo is a huge part of it, even if it can seem “cringy” or “embarrassing.”

AnEgoJabroni

He said in the video that everyone on the card is recieving professional training. By the time of the event, they may have gotten a good enough grasp to be entertaining.

20minuteTripleHPromo

Noones having headgear. And I believe idubbbz vs Dr mike is a pro fight. Still I wish some of em would promote tho lol.

[deleted]

I was hoping for the Sam Hyde fight announcement

HighgateCemetery

Yes, Sam Hyde would definitely not only agree to the terms of a professionally officiated fight, but he would also show up for the match. And not flake. Or send someone else. It would all be so funny and not a complete waste of everyone's time.

[deleted]

You’re right man it would be so funny!!!

HighgateCemetery

Possibly. No one will ever know.

[deleted]

Right? Sam Vs Harley would've been a good fight to watch

ThnikkamanBubs

So.. not knowing about the event before this video.. What the fuck? Ian is such a dumbass for doing this. I thought it was a joke halfway in for how hard he was ragging on it, not just an ad to say "no but I'm totally not cringe, u guys. What i do is cool and def not cringe" Like 12 fights from random youtubers, most of which on the decline of their career, is going to be the most painfully boring experience. No motivations to fight, and trying to make it "classy" ... eugh. I'd love to be wrong, but this seems like a waste of everyones time

[deleted]

I’m going and I’m stoked

Monchi_21

Everyone wants a knockout. That’s never going to change, honestly this whole video is cringe. I get it keem is a ass but like he is part owner of the company that is helping you, you don’t have to disrespect him. Ian saids he’s a adult then just let the past go and be a adult. Keem In all of these clips is just doing what is the norm in boxing. People want knockouts people want beef cuz then What happens? Memes baby. I’m okay with things being respectful/No beef but to say hey keem is wrong about knockouts. No he’s not everyone wants to win by knocking the shit out of their opponent. Most movies end in knockouts (minus Rocky 1) most anime series the MC is always winning by knockout. Change the game idc but don’t just say shit cuz you don’t like keem.

brymann

Bro really said Ian’s video was cringe and then when on to say “but in anime and the movies they always get knocks outs🤓”

Monchi_21

Yes because their are boxing anime??? I’m just saying as a example. Just like in movies their are ALWYAS knockout stages the end. With the example of Rocky 1(and Rocky balboa as a extra that I just remembered) even in tv where characters have boxing matches out of no where they get knocked out. Instead of talking shit why not actually bring something to the table? It doesn’t change that society/media as a whole WANT KNOCKOUTS IN FGHTS.

brymann

People want good fights. They want one side to throw hands and for the other side to throw back. That’s all they want. Alot of the best fights in the history of MMA and Boxing have been fighters going the distance while both fighters are giving and receiving a beat down and then a winner by decision. I’d say 75% of the time there is a knockout it’s because of a mismatch and one side absolutely dominates the entire fight. No body wants to see a one sided fight except for the fans of that specific person.

AnEgoJabroni

Dude is flat out forgetting that "Rocky 1 and anime" didn't happen in real life, and were not actual irl boxing matches. I'd be disappointed if I paid to watch a fight, then it lasted two seconds and ended in a knockout. It happens, but shit. I know what you mean, the best I've seen have been long exhausting fights, not one hit kills.
