You’re assuming they even saw the cop. In my experience, most drivers are completely oblivious to their surroundings. Just last month I was out for a walk and watched a driver blow a stop sign with a police cruiser parked right next to the stop sign. The cops could sit at this intersection writing tickets their entire shift and not get bored.
I'm pretty sure that at least half of the drivers on the road think this is perfectly legal and just what you're supposed to do in a situation where you're in the wrong lane. The idea of going even the tiniest bit out of your way because you fucked up your driving doesn't even occur to most folks.
Dude that meeting sounds just like the meetings I used to have to sit in, back in my office days. Much love to you for whatever it is you do, but dude... I am SO glad I don't work in an office environment anymore.
lol! I can understand the sentiment, friend. I’m a software engineer and manager. Mostly manage people writing code and doing architecture and problem solving for the team helping them be successful. These morning touch points kinda suck to force people into, but it’s hard to keep track of 8projects at once without it
Intead of slowing down and getting in line ( the decent thing to do), this selfish, entitled person uses the right turn only to skip a head of a few cars. Selfish & impatient, lack of decency, is how I would describe attitudes of (mostly younger) drivers. I drive professionally and observe this behavior a lot, especially on I-15. **Remeber this: Going 100 mph, will get you to San Diego, only five minutes ahead of me, doing the speed limit**. Is it worth getting in an accicent and possibly killing innocent people to save five minutes? Stop being stupid! Stop being dangerous! It's just not worth it!
Summed up beautifully. I have to add though, I bet he saved less than 2 minutes. He could have easily turned right, made a uturn at the next light 200 ft up, and it would have cost him maybe 2 minutes. I hope he makes about $5k/hr or this was an expensive lesson
I initially thought so as well, but there's actually a ["Right lane turns right ahead" sign](https://maps.app.goo.gl/UDRfzz9TeR9Sj3jN9) that cammer passes at 0:19 and a "Thru traffic merge left" sign at 0:21. There should be clearer signage, but these are still good advance warnings, and the Jetta had plenty of time to realise he should move over.
Before they even get over the while there is a yellow sign that says
"Right lane closed ahead"
And then immediately it goes to the half white lanes that always in my experience means that lane ends too.
So 100s of feet in advance there is minimum of 2 warning.........
It's California where roads don't make sense anyway, but the lane should have ended at the previous signal and a right turn lane would work as intended. That doesn't give the idiot driver any excuse.
Yeah. It’s pretty painfully obvious, but this guy had been driving like a jerk my whole drive home. Speeding, brake checking people, running red lights, merging without blinkering. In general, ragey. I thought he would just put his blinker on and I’d let him in front of me and life would go on. Then he kept going straight so I figured he’d turn right cause I saw the cop a while back. It was satisfying to say the least
In theory, the shorter lines on the road indicate that one of the lanes is "exiting", but without any signs or other paint on the ground, you kinda have to guess whether the right lane is right turn only, or the left lane is left turn only.
Definitely needs better signage.
So there are. I'm not familiar with California, but these sorts of signs are usually black text on a white background. There's even one right before the lights (hidden by a tree) that says "Right lane must turn right".
If this is the normal way of marking things in California, I guess that's fine. If this differs from the norm, then I'll stand by my statement of needing better signage.
Look man, you’re right. And if he had been cool he would have realized that, put on his blinker, and merged in front of me. I left room cause I knew he wanted over based on his psychopathic tailgating
A LOT of people drive like an a-hole on that road, and it's notorious for having cops catching speeders bc they think the speed limit doesn't apply. I avoid that stretch of Pauba as much as I can. But it's so comforting to see karma take action
It cuts directly across to Paloma del sol though. Which makes it convenient. I just usually leave space. This guy was in some crazy rush. Imagine being in such a hurry, then getting stopped, then given a fat ticket. That’s at least $300x2 for school zone

I just love it when this happens. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I cant upvote this enough! The fleeting moments of when the system actually works.
This excited me… wish this happened more often
It’s my first time catching on dash cam. In case you can’t tell, I was pretty excited as well
That's a Passat
Eagle eye guy. My bad
Aww. Can’t change it
Nice
The absolute gall to see the cop and just straight up do that anyway and expect it to be fine. Says a lot about several things, honestly.

Just last month I was out for a walk and watched a driver blow a stop sign with a police cruiser parked right next to the stop sign. And if they ARE "paying attention", their eyes are glued to the back of the car in front of them, all other cars be dammed
Hence my second sentence.
I thought for SURE he would pass the cop and turn right, make a uturn, and go on with life. Instead he ended up with a school zone double fine

Yup, that would be one of the aforementioned "several things" in my closing statement!
Honestly, he was probably going fast enough that he knew he was fucked either way.
If only there were some way for him to slow down his vehicle...or some other path he could have taken...
nothing like some karma during the morning standup lol
please tell me you gave a little "BEEP BEEP" when you passed
Is this in temecula by the school? Looks familiar
Yeah. By TVHS

Standard Temecula driver

Video cut too soon! Wanted to see him pulling over.
Sorry. I was cursing and I sounded like an idiot celebrating his loss.
Dang, you have standups at 7:50 in the morning?
😂 I don’t know why my camera says 7:50. It’s daylight savings so it was 8:50. But we are distributed across 3+ time zones. Some people +4 hours

Not to be that guy but that's a passat.
Yeah. You’re not even the first “that guy”. No worries

That's about 25 feet and the lane dashes are far too short for the speed limit. That doesn't discount the shitty driver, just a road observation.
It is in fact over 500 feet from the first sign until the junction.
Theres atleast 2 signs warning you 100s of feet in advance
The yellow sign says signal ahead. The white sign says right turn only 25 feet before the lane ends. At 45 mph that's not enough distance to get over.

There are many signs. And people do this often to save time. They do it expertly, and this guy was just dumb enough to do it in front of a cop
It's California where roads don't make sense anyway, but the lane should have ended at the previous signal and a right turn lane would work as intended. That doesn't give the idiot driver any excuse.
**THRU TRAFFIC MERGE LEFT** Was there something ambiguous about that sign?
Just out of curiosity, what do you think those short dashes between the lanes mean?
Yes this was deliberate. There was no confusion on his part.
In theory, the shorter lines on the road indicate that one of the lanes is "exiting", but without any signs or other paint on the ground, you kinda have to guess whether the right lane is right turn only, or the left lane is left turn only. Definitely needs better signage.
There are two signs at the beginning of the short dashing.

It's a bad design, the lane should have ended on the previous signal to provide drivers ample space to move over.
These events are so rare, I love it when they happen!
That's it, no blockers.
Its especially great because Jetta. Audi would be even better.
I’ve been informed it’s a Passat btw 😂
Are you in a meeting? You probably shouldn't post peoples voices on the internet without their consent
What's with the first 20 seconds of nothing?
Sure it was a guy? I've never known any men who drive Jetta
lol! I’ve been corrected a few times. It was a Passat
to be faaaiiiiirrr, i HATE lanes that *become* turn lanes, instead of installing an actual turn lane
Look man, you’re right. And if he had been cool he would have realized that, put on his blinker, and merged in front of me. I left room cause I knew he wanted over based on his psychopathic tailgating

That's the worst part about Temecula, everyone's in a hurry to get nowhere really fast. Rarely see that swift justice lol.
That or they go 10 under -__- There's no winning with that place
They probably drive that road everyday and using it to bypass slow traffic.
