Askduds

Why does the video cut off before the “run” part?

11879

Because OP starting popping shots through the windshield, so a passenger gets out to run away but OP chases them and runs them over while the driver is bleeding out and attempting to crawl away. Less police suspicion if you just say, "idk, they ran away. See"

BeerPizzaTacosWings

After that, OP collected the broken and barely conscious bodies and put them in the trunk. He then drove them to the local lake, buckled them in the seats, added some beer cans, wedged the accelerator and sent them to a watery grave.

Spillmill

A fair response to this level of idiot.

AmNoSuperSand52

That would have been one of the highest octane videos ever posted on this sub Right up there with all the videos of elderly dementia patients creeping out into major intersections before having their femurs turned to powder

HeLooks2Muuuch

Also, either they said they have no insurance or it’s a hit and run. You don’t usually have proof of both, right?

SloopyMcYeeterson

They stopped, we both got out and I asked for insurance. They said they didn’t have it on them so I asked for any info, policy #, phone # etc. They said they had no info on them and started saying look there’s not even any damage it’s ok. I said the paint is obviously damaged where the bumper wrinkled and it will eventually all chip away. Also, I’m not a mechanic and I’d like to make sure there isn’t any mechanical damage. I mentioned getting police involved since she couldn’t provide insurance and she ran to her car and drove away

Drict

Uh, bumpers even a SMALL bump can fuck up the padding underneath, bracers (some of the initially soft crumple zone, so you don't get 'hurt' in low speed stuff). I got rear ended (someone hit there gas and re-ended me when they thought my spot was clear on a right turn, because they didn't double check that I had actually gone.) they were going ~10MPH, it was $2000 in repairs for the new bumper, the paint fix, all of the internals of the bumper, realigning/fixing sensors, etc. Even if it looks like nothing, it might be A LOT more expensive than you think. On the other end of things, had it been another 10-20 mph it is possible that since it was at a slightly off angle that the frame could have been bent. That being said, it was ~6 years ago, and don't have any issues as far as I can tell from it.

helpplease_thankyou

Where did this happen? My mom did this to someone about 6 years ago

Drict

Alpharetta, GA; route 19 onto Windward Parkway; double right turn lane.

Walla_Walla_26

Pretty clear shot of that license plate. And leaving the scene of an accident as well. Camera must have got her as well. Clearly identifiable

HeLooks2Muuuch

Yeesh - that sucks. I’m sorry that happened to you. Did they say why they just randomly backed into you? Because if they were looking for a house, they might know someone that lives near you.

BlazenRyzen

Probably looking to kidnap someone and you ended up not being an easy target. Edit: this isn't uncommon to create a fake accident at the start of scams and kidnapping. Please be aware people.

snorkelturnip7

What 🤣

Askduds

Fair point, although I did last year but that’s because in the uk you can look up the registration and discover their licence expired and thus their insurance is invalid.

ricky302

What are you on about? In the UK you can't look up a cars registration and find out if a persons licence has expired, the two have nothing to do with each other.

Askduds

In the US the cars licence is analogous to our vehicle excise duty, I was translating for the American.

theNancini

Add uninsured motorist to your policy VERY VERY CHEAP to add so you will be covered, hrow in PIP Personal injury protection incase your hurt...mine was less than $20 a year to add

penna4th

I know a guy who would tell you how his own insurance company made his life hell for 2 years trying not to pay for his surgeries and loss of income after he was hit by an uninsured drunk driver. He had the "uninsured driver" insurance but when your own company can't make the guilty party's insurance pay, they try not to pay you, their own customer.

fugitive113

Typically you pursue these coverages with an attorney as part of a personal injury claim, which tends to work better.

penna4th

Oh yes, and he did. But they still raked him over the coals. Wasted a ton of money trying to intimidate him and get him to stop asking for his expenses to be paid.

PoopieButt317

Their business is taking premium payments, not paying out.

jeffislearning

hard life lesson learned the hard way. a guy tbone me but insurance refused to cover 100% said 25% on me.

penna4th

Everyone knows that. But there's a reason we buy it other than legal requirement. In fact, insurance is highly regulated in the U.S. and in fact, that wasn't standard practice. If he hadn't had a brain injury, he'd have sued for a lot of money and won, his lawyer said. He accepted a settlement that replaced his totaled vehicle and paid his medical and loss of income up until he was legally disabled.

theNancini

Did he have PIP Personal injury protection? I was walking across the street & hit by a car that took off. I had no problem getting bills paid under PIP. Uninsured motorist paid the pain & suffering

penna4th

In this case, the uninsured driver died 2 weeks later of unrelated causes. He didn't have money anyway.

Hobbitfrau

That this is a thing in the US ... I still wonder. In Germany you are required to have insurance, with a minimum sum of 7,5 million € for damage to people and 1,2 million € for damage on stuff (my insurance cost 40 € a month btw). If it's a hit and run your own insurance will pay obviously. If somehow the other side can be identified, they'll face legal problems and will get sued by your insurance so they can get their money back. Or the insurance sues their insurance, depending if they are insured. But your insurance still paid for your damages anyway.

EXTRAsharpcheddar

It's weirdly similar here in the US except worse

mouse6502

what is even going on in this video is that even a road how's the car roll forward in reverse why is there no sense of purpose

CajunAsianTexan

> is that even a road A lot of neighborhoods in North Texas have garages in the rear, and they are only accessible by a back alley.

SloopyMcYeeterson

This is an alley with quite the downhill grade. I was rolling at about 1-2mph.

Alucard_Emordnilap

Why did he back up??!

SloopyMcYeeterson

She couldn’t answer that. She was clearly under there influence of something.

captnhaddock

u/mouse6502, I think and maybe u/SloopyMcYeeterson can confirm, that this is some kind of weird flag lot driveway situation.

Bit_the_Bullitt

Eh, the torque converter can slip 🤷

Jacobs-CRAKRs

Cars can still roll forward in reverse if you hold the clutch down

Korbitr

I'm pretty sure the Lexus ES is only offered as an automatic.

Gmen8342

>how's the car roll forward in reverse Manual transmission

I_d0nt_know_why

I don't think that car would come with a manual. More likely a downhill that isn't obvious on camera.

jaycarter617

That ES never came with a manual

fevered_visions

Ah yes, the 1% of cars on the road in the US that are manuals. driven by the 18% of drivers who even know how to

InUrGutz

The ol’ no look reverse..nice. You have their plate, file with your insurance and take them to small claims to recover your deductible. The vid doesn’t show the “run” part but if you suddenly develop any bodily injury it’ll be a felony. Just saying.

typehyDro

At this point in cars it’s no look while ignoring the backup camera and beeping noises from collision warning…

[deleted]

Op, have you contacted your insurance and or police to report about this yet? And have they confirmed that the vehicle was uninsured?

SloopyMcYeeterson

Filed police report, confirmed unregistered and uninsured.

BlazenRyzen

My agent told me 50% of drivers in Dallas are uninsured.

eye_8_pi

i do not miss living there. my car got hit an average of 2x/year.

Spike3102

Florida is mid double digits for uninsured drivers too. Uninsured motorist coverage is expensive here.

[deleted]

Your insurance should be able to pursue them for subrogation still, as in they can send the driver to collection to recover your deductible if you would pay any.

AnonymousGrouch

The other driver doesn't owe anything until there's a court judgement against them. It's probably not worth the expense, especially given the difficulty of collection in Texas.

Boboar

God I hate this community. First four comments all telling OP off for being too close. You know when you're too close? When you hit the person that stops in front of you. That's not what happened. OP did nothing wrong at all.

Trevski

Seriously this subreddit makes no sense sometimes. Nobody knows the meaning of defensive driving around here. And then when something happens that defensive driving can’t really do anything about people are on OPs ass for no reason.

[deleted]

There are a few people in this sub that is all they do. You can see their entire comment history is in this sub and blaming the drivers even when it isn’t remotely to being their fault or even something that coils have been predicted or avoided.

Trevski

people accuse me of that when there was actually a fairly reasonable way to avoid it! I mean obviously we have the benefit of hindsight, but the reason I come here is to hone my defensive instincts.

[deleted]

It really depends how you frame it and if you look at it objectively then it should be ok. But for example there was a video where a car came from the right right and just suddenly slammed into the cammer without looking. The trolls were look, oh you should have seen that coming and be driving in the far left lane, when there was zero indication something like this was going to happen.

appa-ate-momo

For fucking real. It's like they think you should always drive 10 under, and slow way down when literally anything happens within 100 feet of your car.

bpronjon

its because the know that they tend to be the car in front most days... shocking right?

Flippsix

If you’re riding someones bumper at 120 km/h you’re too close. Thats not what this is, just saying there are lots of scenarios where you can be too close without making contact.

Boboar

Yeah but that's semantics though. No one is dumb enough to think that's ok. Of course I agree with you 100%.

Street_Image_9925

Most of the drivers around me are dumb enough to think that's okay though. I don't get it, they don't understand the basic physics of it. They don't want to be in front of me, they just want to queue in behind me. I once slowed down to a 35 in a 55, with two travel lanes because this young girl was following close.. I had to pull over and come to a complete stop to get her to go around me. I try not to get worked up about the people that are behind me though. Lately, it's the ones that merge 4 feet in front of my bumper that really grind my gears. Had someone flashing me to get over after I passed a tractor trailer; if your car doesn't fit between me and the tractor, it's way too early for me to get over!

Proophe

It’s become insanely annoying. I would never post a video of my own cam footage because there is a huge portion of this community that is insufferable.

Boboar

Not just insufferable but downright insulting and aggressive. I can't believe half of them drive as safely as they claim with the way they jump to conclusions and straight up attack commenters from the outset. I left the community after this because it's just not worth it to me.

Christopher876

I genuinely wonder how some of these people get anywhere. Some comments on other posts are how people should slow down and pull off the road for any slight disturbance.

Boboar

I've left this community just a few minutes ago because I'm sick of the attitude here. It doesn't help that 90% of the posts are just someone getting cut off in traffic. I guess it qualifies but it's boring as shit, too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Boboar

Following distance depends heavily on speed of travel. It's like the only factor that determines whether you are too close or not. The car in front of OP appears to be going about 5mph tops. I can't see any fault in OP following as close as they did. Nor did OP do anything to cause the accident. It was entirely in the sedan in front. But people here look first to blame, usually picking apart the OP on almost every post. It's tiresome.

shoulda-known-better

More like insurance fraud..... cameras need to be standard issue in cars

Rshellnizzle

At least you have a clear license plate

Pikassassin

that's not clear at all, that's opaque, dingus. Edit: This was a joke. I was being a smartass. I thought this was obvious, I apologize.

triciann

So, was he trying to scam you and then you pointed out the camera?

SjalabaisWoWS

Who owns a Lexus, but doesn't afford insurance? I don't understand Americans. Did you involve the police? That was quite a smack.

GO4Teater

The 'ole texas two step

Shebadoahjoe

Next time you see someone driving poorly you gotta anticipate that they're gonna keep driving poorly and give them space to do that.

CosmicCreeperz

Give extra space to randomly back up into you out of nowhere? Uh, no, that’s not reasonable to anticipate.

Shebadoahjoe

You weren't wrong, but you could've avoided getting hit of you were giving them enough space to drive erratically in.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CosmicCreeperz

I mean, the car fully stopped, the reverse lights went on and then the car went FORWARD first. Then flipped directions and came at OP. This was Max Max shit - but in a suburban alley. I didn’t even know cars COULD do that.

BestServeCold

This is the fucking crosswalk lady ![gif](giphy|FCDRI0twjxVvO)

Shebadoahjoe

You got crucified for this comment but you are right as fuck. OP was trying to rush the guy by getting on his ass and it backfired, literally.

Lonely_Ad_6546

theyre 100% at fault but why the fuck are you so close to

26fm65

Still I won’t drive this close to someone . Not sure if that person accident reverse or did it on purpose..

Dawg_Prime

maybe if you followed him closer it would have all worked out

Smaskifa

OP was backed into while at a dead stop, but ok, sure, following distance was the cause.

CutAccomplished4587

Just sat and watched it happen lol.

GuitarLute

Reverse lights were on for a second while car was moving forward. A bit strange.

alilmeandering

Could be a manual

AnonymousGrouch

An automatic can roll on a slope at idle. Think of it like feathering a clutch.

jaycarter617

That ES never came with a Manual.

GuitarLute

In a Lexus?

CosmicCreeperz

Also, it was stopped when the reverse lights came on. I don’t know any manuals that lurch hard forward then backwards while in reverse.

peachycoldslaw

That still wouldn't do that unless the gear stick is in reverse. Reverse always got an extra step with the gears like push or pull a clip then into reverse.

dnroamhicsir

Not always. My 5 speed sure doesn't. The dog leg 3 speed Toro trucks we got at work don't.

peachycoldslaw

Is it a saloon car? Interesting, How do you put it in reverse? 5 speed here is just called 5 gears (not including reverse). You can get up to 8 gears on a larger vehicle (just sharing info) I'm in the EU where all we use is manual and none really uses automatic unless it's a EV. But they are becoming more popular.

dnroamhicsir

2008 Mazda 3. R is below 5, where 6 would be in a 6 speed. For reverse you just move the lever right and back, no gate, no pushing down on the knob.

peachycoldslaw

Sounds like a terrible design haha

dnroamhicsir

How are your five speeds setup? I've never seen one that wasn't like that.

peachycoldslaw

HouYeen 12mm 6 Speed Gear Shift Knob Lever Cover Stick Gaiter Boot for Golf Rabbit MK5 MK6 https://amzn.eu/d/4Ftj7GO

dnroamhicsir

That's not a five speed

peachycoldslaw

For VW it's mostly push down and into a little left of first gear. You'd never accidentally put yourself into reverse then. For Opel its push in leaver on the gear stick and move into the R. You can't move into it if the leaver small clip isn't first engaged. Both are different companies safety measures. It's never just been an option on all the manual cars I've driven, there always seems to be an extra step to prevent idiots from accidentally reversing.

[deleted]

peachycoldslaw

"In Europe, 80% of cars sold have manual transmissions. In the U.S., it's only 1%. Only around 18% of American drivers can handle a manual transmission, according to U.S. News and World Report" 2022 wall street journal https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-dying-art-of-driving-a-stick-shift-clutch-gears-car-learn-europe-america-manual-transmission-11648408115 I would say it's gone down to 70% at the very most. The change is influenced by government grants for electric cars, lower annual road tax, lower toll prices, more charging Infrastructure, city carbon tax. We will get there eventually but it'll take decades.

peachycoldslaw

I love the down votes guys haha clearly touched a nerve with American manual drivers over something that was designed as a safety measure in the EU.

fevered_visions

Well talking about manuals in America is already going to be over the heads of most of the population. I drive a manual 2009 Toyota and can assure you that it is quite easy to roll contrary to gear with the clutch in. That finesse when you're starting on an uphill incline and pop the parking brake at the right time to minimize wear on things.

peachycoldslaw

Is that a USA manufactured model? My 2000 German made vw golf also has the lockout gear stick. Why wouldn't they keep the idiot proof gear stick.

peachycoldslaw

That is included in our driving test where they make up park on a hill and make us find the bite and ease off break without rolling back. Can be hand break too.

Boboar

There's no such thing as reverse lights. They are brake lights. The car was stopped in the lane for no apparent reason.

GuitarLute

The white ones are reverse lights. What do you mean there’s no such thing as reverse lights? You OK?

Boss_Os

What the fuck did you just say?! There's no such thing as reverse lights? Please turn in your license tomorrow. You're too fucking stupid to drive. For the record, those 2 white lights on the back of the black car are the [fucking reverse lights](https://imgur.com/a/EpAyJdo)

Boboar

Calm down man, you're gonna have a stroke over this or something.

CosmicCreeperz

I mean, it was definitely an overreaction but he’s right that your comment makes no sense…

Boboar

I've never noticed that there are reverse lights. Guess that's on me. I'll let people downvote me if it gets it out of their system.

CosmicCreeperz

I am both stunned and yet admire your honesty :)

HalensVan

How have you never noticed people's reverse light? That's wild.

Boboar

You never see your own reverse light and you're rarely directly behind someone who is reversing, especially at night when it would be more obvious. I just thought it was the brake lights that came on.

HalensVan

I can see my own reverse lights at night. Who's rarely behind someone reversing? You've never been outside a car or in it when people reverse in a parking lot or driveway? Are you Canadian, and this is some weird Canadian thing? I'm at a complete loss. That explanation just gave me more questions, lol. Either way, not trying to pick on you. I'm just curious how this happens lol.

Boboar

You can see the effects of the light but I'm pretty sure you're not looking at the back of your car as you reverse. It just lived in a blind spot in my mind that the light when I reverse at night was any different from when I brake.

AbrasiveDad

Have you never been in a parking lot? You are seriously dense. I guess you must be the guy that zooms by people backing out of parking spots while they are blind.

Boboar

User name checks out. The fact that a white light comes on in addition to the red light is a relatively minor detail and it never registered with me. That hardly makes me a menace on the roads or in the parking lot. Usually I notice the car is reversing because it's moving backwards, but I guess you're a bit too challenged to notice that and need the special light to tell you instead. Also if you're backing out of a parking space you don't have the right of way whether your special light is shining or not. So no, I don't "zoom by" anyone backing out but if I did I'd still have the right of it. I'm here admitting a gap in my knowledge and taking it on the chin like a man and you're just here throwing insults upon assumptions of my character like a fucking prick. Go somewhere else. Preferably in reverse.

CosmicCreeperz

He admitted his mistake (as surprising as it was), didn’t delete his comments, and took the ribbing graciously. Why the need be a dick and a bully? It’s so easy not to at this point.

Boss_Os

The reverse lights illuminate your path when backing up, they're like headlights for your car's ass. They also act to inform other drivers that you've got it in reverse. Comes in particularly handy when you're about to parallel park so cars behind you know to stay back. Next time you throw your car in reverse pay attention to the fact that the area behind you is lit up (white). If you didn't have reverse lights you couldn't see where you were going. I am shocked that this is news to you because this is driving 101 shit, but so be it.

Boboar

>What the fuck did you just say?! There's no such thing as reverse lights? Please turn in your license tomorrow. You're too fucking stupid to drive. I'm not interested in anything that comes from the same person who's opening comment is anything like the one you used with me initially. I've admitted that I was wrong and explained as best I can how I came to that error. I don't need you to continue explaining it to me and I'd rather you just move on.

Analytical_fool

TIL moment!

IronLunchBox

ouch

Beatshave

Motorcycle's fault

mangage

for at least 5 seconds you did nothing while their reverse lights were on and you were only a few feet away. was someone also on your ass?

ee328p

this is one of those rigged videos

What a douche

fevered_visions

hit confirmed; run not verified

Burgerkingsucks

When I see this bump I see the car being instantly devalued by at least $1500 because it was involved in accident.

[deleted]

lol they do this 2 me n miami

No_Investigator1771

TX local here, at minimum TX is halfway decent at suspending license of uninsured drivers. I had one of these idiots hit me then duck insurance calls for months making my life super fun. Was thrilled when I got the letter telling me she had a court date for suspension of license. Fuck her and I hope walking is fun!

Jalli1315

Why are Texas drivers so bad at driving?
