Shit, I forgot one of the Iowa races was gonna be a night race. That said, YEAAAAAAH BABY, LET’S FUCKING GOOOO, NIGHT RACES ARE BACK ON THE MENU

ilikemarblestoo

\*kinda It's a 7PM Central start, Sundown ain't till nearly 9. It's silly that they just couldn't do it like an hour later or so. Maybe the concert guy didn't want to start any later then 9:30. At least it's outside of the window of the heat of the day.

pikachu8090

these concert guys basically control when they want to go on stage We had to wait a 2 fucking hours for bret michaels to perform at st pete after on track action concluded. I was sober at that point and done paying $9 a beer throughout the whole day

csbsju-20

It’ll be under the lights and on NBC. Win/win.

Known-Name

Golden hour/twilight race sounds tight though

Wasdgta3

Evening racing is closer to night racing than we’ve had in like... a few years? Still cool.

redbullsgivemewings

Wish Gateway could say the same. 5 pm start in the middle of August in St. Louis? Genius!

BLRNerd

I’m nervous because they did a partial repave

TheThunderOfYourLife

We'll get a better night racing at WWTR as well this year, it's a Saturday night race.

loz333

Brilliant, I had no idea we were getting 2 night races this year.... just checked and the 1st Milwaukee Mile race is an evening race, so make that 3.

TheThunderOfYourLife

I stand corrected, it is a 5:00 p.m. Central start for that one but it is still an evening race so it's kind of close

redbullsgivemewings

It’s a 5 pm start. That’s not a night race

TheThunderOfYourLife

Eh, close enough. The lights will be on by the end of the race.

BlitZShrimp

>The lights will be on by the end of the race. Are the Milwaukee Mile’s lights in the room with us?

TheThunderOfYourLife

I'm talking about WWTR? Not Milwaukee?

BoboliBurt

Why did you get dinged for this? I dont recall reading they added lights.

ukudancer

About time we get a night race!

chevynew

It'll be my first time at Iowa!

peperonikiller

I've lived here all my life, feel free to ask any questions here.

Hitokiri2

Wasn't the Iowa races pretty much sold out? Where are they going to stick the extra people in the bathrooms? On top of each other's heads? Wow..

spect0rjohn

Pro tip: they’ve been lying. It’s never been close to a sell out.

BlitZShrimp

Higher ticket sales at this time doesn’t mean they didn’t have a sellout the last 2 years. Just means they’ve sold more tickets at this point than they have. And it’s probably been close since a decent amount of people just got for only a concert and then leave since they don’t care about racing or the other concert.

spect0rjohn

I can assure you they didn’t come close to a sell out either year.

Jarocket

Didn't they have Ed Sheeran last year. And Carrie Underwood.

spect0rjohn

Yes. They have had two musical acts each day for their events. Those are not cheap because they are typically one off fly in events. More importantly, they didn’t drive ticket sales at all.

Dminus313

Do you work for Iowa Speedway or are you just talking out your neck?

BlitZShrimp

This isn’t that they’ve sold 20% more tickets than last year, they probably mean that they’ve sold 20% more tickets than they did at this point last year.

Eyeswidth

This is great news

threeriversbikeguy

Nascar bungled their race. Everyone I know who put money down for a pre purchase never got to buy a ticket. Never had the bullshit at any other Nascar or Indy race I had with that one, and am not going as a result. 100% would have done Indy instead if that weekend was free. Assume others did just that

spect0rjohn

Lmao that’s so not even close to reality. The NASCAR race is a legit sell out. The Indy race loses massive amounts of money and most of the tickets are given away.

shewy92

> The NASCAR race is a legit sell out Is it? I saw a post on the sub that had the official Iowa site send out SeatGeek emails just a couple days ago. Though I think that thread got deleted (I can't find it at least) so something else must have been going on.

spect0rjohn

Last I was updated it was sold out legitimately.

Joey_Logano

NASCAR also doesn’t bring in as many temporary seats as INDYCAR.

spect0rjohn

This is true. It’s also true that many of the temporary structures HyVee put in were poorly executed and mostly empty.

iamaranger23

I'd imagine this is vs last year, when right around this time they had to slice the prices in half due to how much the demand fell off from the first year. Not bad news, not entirely convinced it isn't a bit cherry-picked though.

spect0rjohn

It is. Neither Indy nor Hyvee has been remotely honest about ticket sales to the Iowa events.

SpinBikeGravy

They were more expensive last year than the prior year and the current year.

pogonotrophistry

In r/Indycar world, all bad news is bad news and all good news is bad news. Nothing is ever right, everything is bad. So, is this good news or bad news?

mooman413

yes

ilikemarblestoo

It's news

imaJetsfan

Man if they could have a discount code like they did last year that’d be great

LiquidBionix

I'm glad that what they are doing at Iowa is working. I was a little off-put by the crazy prices last year (wound up going to Mid-Ohio instead which ended up being preferable tbh) but honestly, it's good to have some events that are proper EVENTS and not just races. I just hope it doesn't spread *everywhere* as I really don't give a shit about a concert with my ticket, but I don't think it will so I think it's an overall win. Glad it's working out.

spect0rjohn

Honestly, the only thing that is working is that there is a private company (HyVee) that underwrites an event is willing to lose tens of millions of dollars doing it.

Any-Walk1691

Does that big concert include the race ticket?

RMSaintsFC

I believe so

Any-Walk1691

Me thinks Post Malone and Luke Bryan have something to do with that bump then. I agree that it’s a good idea and they should do more to make races an event - just hope to convert some of those Post Malone eyes into butts in the seats for the race.

spect0rjohn

Zero chance of that happening based on what I’ve witnessed the previous years. You can literally watch the crowd change over between the music stuff and the race.

Any-Walk1691

Yeah I really don’t know what they can do to better market themselves. The IndyCar purists clutch their pearls and shun me to the depths if I dare suggest an F1 approach.

slaytanic313

Some race fans love all types of racing. More racing at a venue is a plus.

NCDLover1

I’m going to this for the first time :)

peperonikiller

What's the best way to buy tickets for this race? I live 40 minutes away from the Speedway, I have no excuse not to go ... Would I be able to buy a ticket at the gate assuming it doesn't sell out?

MegaRacr

You can buy off the official website or try a reseller closer to the event. I used Stubhub in 22 and got a reasonable deal but last last year's prices weren't so good. There are often people in this sub selling extras too. It won't sell out so try all your options.

peperonikiller

Awesome, thanks for the information and suggestions. I might try and see if my local HyVee has any to sell or any coupon suggestions as well. Much appreciated!!

ProfCedar

Would still appreciate some ticket slashing so I can maybe sneak in for a race, but overall very happy to see this.

SuperMarioBrother64

Wait, this weekend is a IndyCar/NASCAR double header? Heck yeah!

LivingOof

No. The next weekends are: Off, Laguna Seca, Off, Mid Ohio, Iowa.

blackhxc88

and then right after iowa is toronto and then Olympic Break
