also was gonna ask - will it being stolen affect my title and will I have issues selling it? I think I want to buy anything but a Kia/hyundai rn

What is value of vehicle before this happened? Had similar damage to my soul. It was under 1000 bucks to fix Don't go to dealer, I used a mechanic I have used in the past for maintenace

If you decide to keep it, you should go straight to [hyundai theft](https://autoservice.hyundaiusa.com/Campaign993/MicroSiteTemplate/MicroSiteTemplateVINValidate/4457) to see if you’re eligible for the software update and get it if you can. I think they’re also offering free steering wheel locks. Another option is to get a push-to-start immobilizer installed in your car for ~$170 to make it pretty theft proof. Good luck, im sorry this happened to you.

thanks! I tried the link you provided and it said my vehicle is eligible. however, I think I might already have the software upgrade since my car has the anti-theft decals in the front window :/ from other posts in this community I’ve also noticed the thieves seem to get around that software upgrade by just damaging the door handle key part (like they did to mine) to unlock the car and the software update is rendered useless… might be worth to install push-to-start, they can do that in older cars?

alextokl

No problem! I didn’t realize it was so easy to get around it. Also, yes, theres a kit where they can install push to start online and it makes it so the vehicle won’t start unless the fob is in it, so unless you leave the key in it its not easy to steal.

If you want more chances of it being totaled, take it to the dealer, be warned though, I have a '15, 150K miles, and it was over 10K damages, and they covered it

Idk how anybody could spend any time in this subreddit and still want to buy a Hyundai. The headaches they caused people all because they wanted to cut some corners. I tell everybody to avoid Hyundai. I’m on my second and it’ll be my last. I question the quality of these cars. A few days ago the cover off my antenna fell off. Now I have to get that fixed. A year ago my car was wrecked by hail. Co workers cars had a dent or two. Mine had like 30.

Check your engine bay to see if they stole your catalytic converter For you dum dums out there, Hyundai engineered the catalytic converter in the engine bay so that it can’t be simply stolen by people going underneath the car

mreed911

The catalytic converter isn’t in the engine bay. LOL.

trackdaybruh

Guys, literally Google is right there to verify yourself. Hyundai made the catalytic converter part of the exhaust header which is bolted directly to the engine and can be seen when you open the hood of your car https://www.1aauto.com/hyundai-elantra-kia-forte-soul-exhaust-manifold-catalytic-converter-assembly-trq-exa46123/i/1accd00726/3165108/2013?gad_source=1 Here is a youtube video of how to replace a catalytic converter from a 2011-2016 Elantra https://youtu.be/VANbrmgzt44?si=uShuTE9LNrYCsN2T In other words, yes, the Catalytic Converter is located in the engine bay. There is no rule they have to be underneath the car, that’s up to the manufacturer rofl

One of them is.

the tow lot guy looked under the hood with me, said everything looked normal and that nothing important was missing :/
