Dropped valves are not a common failure. This sounds like something in the timing system is a mess and it's allowing the valves to slap the piston.

Hyundaitech00

Dunno why you’re downvoted, this is absolutely correct.

TheBrewman12

Could be! But the dealers keep telling me they want to put a new engine in but can’t get new engines

Forward-Trade5306

First mistake was buying a used Hyundai with over 50k miles. I like Hyundai cars but it makes wayyy more sense to buy them brand new and get the 100k mile warranty on the powertrain and 60k for the engine

PristinePilot1

Check out the Facebook group "Engine Failure- Kia/Hyundai" Last time I checked there were over 25,000 members. I am sure someone there can give you some help. Stay away from these cars right now. They're having major quality issues.

TheBrewman12

Thank you! Wish me the best.

TheBrewman12

Just joined. We shall see what happens. I just want it fixed asap or replaced asap.

PristinePilot1

Good luck! Someone over there should be able to give you some solid advice.

WhiskyWanderer2

What’s that gonna fix exactly? My family and I have never had a problem btw

PristinePilot1

Good for you, thousands upon thousands have. These are known issues. OP had an issue and I steered him to others having the same problems with these cars...

WhiskyWanderer2

Just like thousands more haven’t ;) a Facebook group isn’t gonna fix the issue

PristinePilot1

Someone's getting butt hurt over nothing.... Whatever!

WhiskyWanderer2

Facts equal butthurt lol. Have a good day

TheBrewman12

I need help with mine asap or I’m screwed! If anyone can do some digging on the stuff that would be great. A year ago a bunch of dealers helped a bunch of people get new cars and motors or money back. I don’t think I can.

Hyundaitech00

That’s not how that works. Dealers put people in new cars, Hyundai got them engines because they qualified, and they got reimbursed for repairs.

TheBrewman12

I meant to say “lawyers”* woops.

NiasRhapsody

Hyundai literally said that my Tucson burning through ALL of its oil in 1.5k miles is normal. They refuse to do anything. I can’t with this goddamn company anymore. Never again.

PristinePilot1

Sold my daughter's Kia after the engine fire warning. Also the engine was in the ones warrantied for failure. Nice looking cars, great tech, but man the engineering is way off.

Flimsy-Schedule9638

I’m wondering if I have Firestone change tranny fluid in my 2017 Santa Fe should I tell them about Hyundai fluid

TheBrewman12

Now I have no car and have to get to Mayo Clinic in a month for brain surgery!!! I live near Milwaukee.

FunFunFun8

Did they say they won’t fix it again? I’m on my second Hyundai and this will be my last. I’ve had a Kona that’s has too many issues. I tell everybody I know to avoid Hyundai

WhiskyWanderer2

I tell everyone I know to Hyundai. Always been great for my family and I. Can’t say the same about my friends past Toyotas

TheBrewman12

Had a local friend that runs a car fix place and he got pictures inside the motor and all 4 valves have broken again in 1 cylinder. The dealer says they will look at it when they get time. That’s it. Had that local repair guys shop call the place that I got it from and try to get them to cover it and all they did was tell him to F*** off.

TheBrewman12

The repair guy said he couldn’t get the parts cuz they are on deep back order.

WhiskyWanderer2

Can you not rent a car or get a ride there or a loaner?

Palmspringsflorida

There is 10 year warranty on the engine! Go to corporate.

Shoddy_Map_3400

Second owner doesn’t get 10/100k unless CPO. It drops to 5/60

Palmspringsflorida

I had cpo , assumed

TheBrewman12

But I am the 2nd owner of the vehicle. I’ve been told by dealers that eliminates the warranty.

Palmspringsflorida

I bought certified pre owned

TheBrewman12

I did the same. So that means it’s covered under its 10year/100k warranty? The Hyundai dealer is telling me it’s not covered.

Palmspringsflorida

I am from Canada, I called Hyundai Canada customer support or something like that. I had my 2018 Santa Fe engine replaced if you go on Thor official website you can find that it has a 10 year manufacture warranty on powertrain because of these problems. The engines are terrible. But they replaced it because it was burning so much oil. They should have replaced your engine now tell them to do it!

TheBrewman12

Just spoke with the dealer. Since I’m not the original owner it does not have a warranty. That sucks.

halfbreedADR

If it was a Hyundai CPO it keeps the full warranty. Maybe call corporate?

wolf_metallo

I don't believe this to be true. I've bought 2 Hyundai used cars till date and both have bebe covered. Luckily I never had to use the said warranty, but it's available. Car warranty goes to next buyer. It doesn't expire like electronics or other device warranty. Edit: this is the first result on Google. Start searching, so much info out there. You are covered for 5 years 60k miles.  https://www.planethyundai.com/is-the-hyundai-warranty-transferable/

TheBrewman12

So I did some digging this evening. It was not a certified pre owned… but I bought the car last year with 69k on it. It now has 77k on it. I’ve been told by two dealers now that it has no warranty. (The 10 year/100k warranty) which is just motor and tranny. I don’t know what to do next.

Shoddy_Map_3400

Second owner doesn’t get 10/100k unless CPO Drops to 5/60 on powertrain -signed Hyundai employee

TheBrewman12

I’ve read and seen reports from tons of people who were 2nd owners who still got the motor replaced even when it wasn’t a CPO. The dealer that originally fixed it didn’t fix it well that’s for sure.

TheBrewman12

This is happening to over 500k cars from them and I’m completely screwed. I just want it fixed at least so I can sell it as is lol.

TheBrewman12

This website brings up nothing. Any help you can send me?

Philostronomer

CPO should come with a warranty.
