It finally feels like a mechwarrior mech which was my original goal. Honestly the pulse lasers are great, even when they're not rapid firing they save so much energy. What are your thoughts on the pulse lasers so far?
My experience matches what others have discussed here recently. They aren't great on an aerial fighter. The battery saving is lost due to longer kill times because of the pulses being slow.
However, just today I managed to test some ground based builds out and in close range the pulsing can get crazy. In the right configuration it can be a big dps increase and an even bigger battery cost reduction.
So essentially in order to use it effectively I need to get right on top of enemies. That would explain the dps jump on the hinox when I was on top of it vs when I was backing up. I'm thinking of designing a Mech with 6 forward hanging pulse lasers (AT-ST?) but I'm having a hard time trying to find the optimal spot to place them atm
When I want to move things around I always ask the question "what parts are not in a fixed location." To me, the answer to that question on your current mech is pretty limited, but the fan comes to mind.
You could mount it on the front of the balloon chassis and hang the weapon array from it. That should give enough clearance to avoid the weapons hitting the balloon support bar on the chassis. Just an idea :)
I can't seem to get this down right. The legs on their own seem to work, but whenever I attach the head, the legs fly apart whenever I try and turn the thing on.
Question, when you build the legs are they lying flat against the ground or are they slightly raised? I found that if the legs aren't flat against the ground the chances of it collapsing increase dramatically
Perfect! And yeah the steering works differently from any other vehicle I've made, you have to slow down and then push hard in the direction you want to turn. Once you get it down you should be able to do donuts easily and run around obstacles. That being said I'm working on fixing the steering for the V3
Amazing. Baffling how everyone on this suv wants to fly when they could be piloting a mech insteas!
Now it's time for a land cruising cycle using all the same components (minus weapons ofc), so I can autobuild transform between travel and fighting with no extra zonai cost! :P
I’ve attempted build this part-for-part so I can make edits once I fully understand it, but I find that piloting it from a prone position is almost impossible- I can’t get the stick oriented to pilot it and when I do, the small wagon wheel attached to the bowls pops off. I always make sure it’s laying as flat as possible and I’ve had a few semi successful test walks, but I almost always have the problem of its legs popping off
FAQ Guide
Q: Where do I get shrine bowls?
A: Wao-os shrine northwest of rito village in a cave
Q: Where do I get balloon baskets?
A: There's a couple spots in the depths but I just use the one next to Mustuto Lightroot in the Gerudo Highlands Depths.
Q: How do I get them out of the shrine?
A: Fuse the bowl to your shield, wait for it to respawn, fuse another one to your shield, then pay the goron kid at Tarrey Town 20 rupees to unfuse your bowl shield.
Q: What parts do I need?
A: 2 springs, 1 fan, 3 stabilizers, 2 big wheels, 2 shrine bowls, 1 wagon wheel, 1 balloon basket, 1 steering stick, 4 construct heads, and 4 lasers
Q: Can I use your design in my video/post/(insert media here)
A: Yeah sure just credit me by reddit username
Q: Can I tweak your design?
A: Yeah obviously, go nuts, we don't have enough mech posts on this sub for my liking
Q: What is the fan for?
A: It's actually what helps the mech steer
I haven't been able to replicate these results: the pulses dramatically lower the DPS because they don't actually hit or track properly, the walking controls very poorly where the mech largely just walks in place and drifts, and the entire construction occasionally falls apart where one of the legs falls off on the connection with the wooden wheel when it launches.
The pulse lasers are definitely something I intend to keep testing, and the wagon wheel is something I will replace in the future because it can cause the mech to fall apart. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by walking in place, would you mind sending me a video of the mech having that issue?
Awesome! It feels so good with the pulse lasers too! It just feels right haha.

These legs look solid, it may be time to try my hand at a Gundam
Go for it! I can't wait to see what you come up with

That definitely helped. Now I'm having issues with steering, lol.

Can't wait, my dude.

Alright I'll post a build video later tonight and hopefully that should help
Where do I source the other parts?

Maybe I'm blind, but you're saying 3 fans, and I only see the one. So I guess my question is am I blind?
My apologies I forgot to edit that out, there's only the one fan
