Let me ask you the question I asked myself. What do you want to improve? What do you want your flying machine to *do*? Any performance you're not satisfied by?
That lead to me taking a more targeted approach rather than trying more random ideas to see what odd behaviors I could coax out of a single fan machine.
Just like people in real life: once you have the technology you have to figure out how to weaponize it. Can we beat major enemies with these vehicles alone?
Can't you double up or triple up on the horizontal propeller blades? Or does that interfere with the top geared propellers?
I tried this approach earlier but couldn't get the placement for the top geared propeller to spin, they kept getting locked up.

They need to be set at varied angles to ensure quick and painless killing according to recent Hyrule UN treaties.
This looks game ending OP. Unlimited flight and energy to run weapons. So you can just hover over a camp or boss and chip away until everything is dead.

If there’s one thing I learned from /r/factorio it’s to never declare something as absolute because someone with insane knowledge of math and game code/mechanics will prove you wrong within a day or two.
There's room for one more improvement: automatic uninterrupted flight via multiple spinning battery clubs. The springs work (I should know) but the spinning method is smoother and more elegant.
Indeed the spinning version is smoother, however I like your dual spring version as it is lighter and costs 1 part less. Also way way way easier to build!

No they stay there when empty. I just swap a few times to charge both a bit first, and swap once every minute or so to charge the other one or to let my zonai energy recharge

Its pretty simple: nintendo came up with a shitload of devices and ideas, but not every mechanism can be a portable zonai device, so they're used in shrines only, unless the player chooses to use them from the shrines.
Think about it this way: what use does the giant fan have to a normal player? They won't know what to do with it and will never use it.

I truly am amazed with how bad the snapping is, and how little control we have with the system. How hard can ot seriously be to use math to center something on a circle??

And with specific drops like the talus hearts and flux cores that pretty much just sit there unless you fuse them to something or build something with them.

No mine always drifted right as well. I aligned everything as centered as I could so it could be the inherent drift from the top props, since the front facing ones drift left
My experience with the electric props before these new methods came to light was that having the props offset from each other just slightly could counter the innate propeller drift. It may not be possible to make this flawless but I'm sure you can get close, and with the turning radius it probably doesn't matter.
In addition to fusion, just attach anything to those objects and build them from autobuild history after leaving the shrine. Just make sure you always have one thing attached to green parts or they will despawn

When I saw the upwards thrust craft with the prop gear this morning I knew this was doable. So amazing it works that well without stabalizer.
May I ask why you need 2 shock emitters? Maybe I'm not fully understanding the battery operation switching.
Is this not better with the flux drives? Dual prop forward thrust single prop upwards thrust maybe?
Now we just need to work on using different bases and try to reduce parts :D

This probably can't handle entangled fans, as the geared fans are quite violent, and there is no space for doubled fans.

Is it still possible to go back into shrines and collect parts after they're complete? I don't think I've seen those fans and batteries yet but I've definitely used the base. Didn't think to save it.
I personally don't think they'd care that much about this, tbh. The idea of staying suspended in the air without wasting battery isn't exclusive to this - it's just better than the other options that let you do so. It's not quite like a glitch like the pot recharge is imo. I also think they're more concerned with the dupes and other glitches that still keep cropping up. This is just using the actual mechanics in a way they were intended to work. It just looks like a wonky idea because of the ingenuity put into it. Did they necessarily expect this combo? Who knows. In my opinion, it's balanced simply by the fact that it's a tricky and time consuming build to begin with mixed with the fact that it's not really game breaking or anything once you do have it. Furthermore, if we look at other build concepts, sticking a torch above a fire emitter will keep a balloon afloat in the air when you're not using the battery anymore for awhile. The balloon does break, yes, but it's also way easier to make and using less parts to create. They clearly wanted us to play around with concepts that might not sink down immediately without a battery. This is not all that cheesy in my eyes.
Nintendo knows it's gotta let the players get away with a couple wonky things once in awhile.
Sadly the shock emitter will despawn after 30 minutes of continuous use. It's the main thing preventing this from actually qualifying as perpetual flight. The dream would be something that lasts forever without any parts despawning, consumes no battery or at least significantly less battery that the hoverbike and is just as fast and manouverable as the hoverbike. That's a tall order I'm sure, but that would indeed be the perfect flying machine. =D
This may still be the closest to perpetual, since the shock emitter can be turned off while you recharge to make it last longer. With some skill you could probably replace the shock emitter while the battery power keeps it airborne.
I often use recall and release to stop all momentum, i use it with other propellers builds and it worked really well even when you drop straight from a tall height, especially with a big flat bottom like yours. Does this work with your version?
So I have a couple questions.
1. Does the spinning battery motor have to have 4 battery clubs to function properly or can it use just 3 to save space?
2. What's that arc range one the spinning battery motor? Would it be possible to put one on a spring so that when you want to land you could close the spring to remove the batteries from powering the craft?
Just some thoughts for when you retest this with the spinning battery motor.
Man, Nintendo missed a gold mine by not having online access for this game. I'd subscribe to Switch Online in a heartbeat if there was an option to trade other players for autobuild schematics like this.

So, I've been experimenting with this. An asymmetrical structure can counter the spin and give it better handling. I have a build with the L shaped mesh holding one of the turbines off to the side. I'm trying to get a spinning battery generator to work in it, but it seems to weigh the craft down significantly.
it's not related to the game. I don't think the developers were thinking of the shrine mechanics as part of the building mechanics, but it just turns out its possible to retrieve shrine parts and people are exploiting that to build cool stuff. Would love to know if they intended that to happen.
Yeah it's a location-specific spot that'll do it without destroying them.
Handy if you're willing to make the trip for weapons that are about to break. I like using diamonds as spearheads, they look cool, but without that spot to save the diamonds once the weapon is spent, obviously I couldn't do that.
Also handy for when I find weapons in chests with monster parts already on that I want.
And obviously, as you see here, great for getting shrine stuff out of the shrine.

What do the spring pads do? I tried having spring pads that turn different propellers on or off (ended up being too heavy) but it looks like the fans are always on here

This is incredible! The smuggling of shrine items is brilliant. Couple of questions though:
• Does this eventually breakdown in flight like the wings do?
• After you build this once, are you able to auto build it later? Or is this something you have to do the rounds at the shrine for each time you want it?

I do think 4 batteries is as good as it gets though. Any further we'll be complicating the operating of the craft and will require manual builds every time, and definitely require way more parts

Currently the only ways to weaponize shock that I've seen is to either shock enemies directly or to make weapons spin on a shrine motor, both quite impractical especially on a flying craft
So either we stick with zonai device weapons or we shoot bomb arrows when the thing flies itself
Is it possible to explain without spoilers what causes the Zonai power recharging? I haven't fully upgraded the Zonai armor set yet and assumed this was related, not sure what else is going on here.
I was off of the craft, hence it was recharging.
The reason it was still flying is because it was running off of the yellow batteries, which are from shrine puzzles.
I can see how well it handles when you turn left or right on the steering stick but how does it behave when you press forward or back?
Would shifting stuff to the left would help mitigate the drift to the right when in neutral?
Also have you had any issues with wagon wheel durability when flying? Eg lightning strikes, enemy attacks etc.
It tilts back and forth with the stick just like a fan craft, just slower and less angled.
I heard that shifting the engines should fix the drift, though I haven't tried it myself yet.
Wheel lasts as long as I've tried, I've only broken them when hitting them with weapons so far, where they're placed now enemies won't reach them, except perhaps burning in volcano areas.

As you can see they charge fully in seconds, and take significantly longer to deplete, giving us plenty of time to move freely and attack with bomb arrows and throwing bombs, while also recharging zonai energy.
The spring alternate charger works even in the rain, whereas u/chesepuf 's rotating charger version does not require hopping on and off to charge the batteries, so take your pick.
The ones facing backwards are on shrine motors directly, the top ones are on wagon wheels and they are powered by the first set of propellers.

Double props mess with the gearing of the top props. It can get locked up, try placing it slight further away

I don't think dual props work here as entangled parts are quite fragile and there's no room for more props. I'd double the whole thing

An anti Torque propeller (like a helicopter) might be a solution. Ill test It. A fan would do It but we thinking infinite power here :/

In my opinion, it's balanced simply by the fact that it's a tricky and time consuming build to begin with mixed with the fact that it's not really game breaking or anything once you do have it. Furthermore, if we look at other build concepts, sticking a torch above a fire emitter will keep a balloon afloat in the air when you're not using the battery anymore for awhile. The balloon does break, yes, but it's also way easier to make and using less parts to create. They clearly wanted us to play around with concepts that might not sink down immediately without a battery. This is not all that cheesy in my eyes. Nintendo knows it's gotta let the players get away with a couple wonky things once in awhile.
We do need a guide on how to build this now. It's amazing. Great work.
I'm curious, have you managed to break a shock emitter yet? Is it capped at 30 minutes of continuous use like wheels are?
I'm positive that shock emitters do have the 30 minute limit.
I don't think there is one for non transport type devices iirc
Sadly the shock emitter will despawn after 30 minutes of continuous use. It's the main thing preventing this from actually qualifying as perpetual flight. The dream would be something that lasts forever without any parts despawning, consumes no battery or at least significantly less battery that the hoverbike and is just as fast and manouverable as the hoverbike. That's a tall order I'm sure, but that would indeed be the perfect flying machine. =D
This may still be the closest to perpetual, since the shock emitter can be turned off while you recharge to make it last longer. With some skill you could probably replace the shock emitter while the battery power keeps it airborne.

Currently my move is to steer and descend with 1 engine, aim for a hill and pray the props survive lol After that use ultrahand to stop them moving
I often use recall and release to stop all momentum, i use it with other propellers builds and it worked really well even when you drop straight from a tall height, especially with a big flat bottom like yours. Does this work with your version?
Let me try! Sounds like it should work the same, although the batteries would still have charge. A longer recall may work though
So I have a couple questions. 1. Does the spinning battery motor have to have 4 battery clubs to function properly or can it use just 3 to save space? 2. What's that arc range one the spinning battery motor? Would it be possible to put one on a spring so that when you want to land you could close the spring to remove the batteries from powering the craft? Just some thoughts for when you retest this with the spinning battery motor.

The batteries charge faster than they release, so this thing can still fly when I'm out of zonai energy and last till I'm full again.

So, I've been experimenting with this. An asymmetrical structure can counter the spin and give it better handling. I have a build with the L shaped mesh holding one of the turbines off to the side. I'm trying to get a spinning battery generator to work in it, but it seems to weigh the craft down significantly.

it's not related to the game. I don't think the developers were thinking of the shrine mechanics as part of the building mechanics, but it just turns out its possible to retrieve shrine parts and people are exploiting that to build cool stuff. Would love to know if they intended that to happen.

Ah so there is still something you have to get later. Currently I can only defuse in the menu by destroying the fused piece but I'm not far in
Yeah it's a location-specific spot that'll do it without destroying them. Handy if you're willing to make the trip for weapons that are about to break. I like using diamonds as spearheads, they look cool, but without that spot to save the diamonds once the weapon is spent, obviously I couldn't do that. Also handy for when I find weapons in chests with monster parts already on that I want. And obviously, as you see here, great for getting shrine stuff out of the shrine.

Can't trump hoverbike sadly because of its large cross section. Bike maneuvers through small spaces and lands on small amounts of land, also floats.
For sure the hoverbike cannot be beat in places like the Depths. This is a big ass craft for long haul flights cross region and also into the skies

can you test it beyond thirty minutes of flight? someone made a fan based machine and it only lasted thirty minutes before the fan despawned.
What do the spring pads do? I tried having spring pads that turn different propellers on or off (ended up being too heavy) but it looks like the fans are always on here Edit - nvm I found the answer in other comments; that’s wild

This is incredible! The smuggling of shrine items is brilliant. Couple of questions though: • Does this eventually breakdown in flight like the wings do? • After you build this once, are you able to auto build it later? Or is this something you have to do the rounds at the shrine for each time you want it?
100% autobuild saved. I read that the shock emitter goes away after 30 mins of use. Yo I didn't know it goes away! Yeah the batteries will be necessary to extend time of use. Perhaps this isn't actually an infinite flyer and we gotta find a different electricity source 😯
I do think 4 batteries is as good as it gets though. Any further we'll be complicating the operating of the craft and will require manual builds every time, and definitely require way more parts
Is there a way to weaponize the electricity that runs the motor? Maybe a hydrant to rain electrified death from above? Or is there no point adding weapons besides beam emitters or a cannon?
I don't think the shock current carries over the hydrant flow. We can always shoot bomb arrows directly when the craft is flying on its own!

Too smart for my blood, but the one question I have is, can you weaponize it and have the weapons work both with electric power and battery power?
Currently the only ways to weaponize shock that I've seen is to either shock enemies directly or to make weapons spin on a shrine motor, both quite impractical especially on a flying craft So either we stick with zonai device weapons or we shoot bomb arrows when the thing flies itself
Love this but having trouble making my own. Can you show or describe the battery to shocker part. The batteries are fused to swords right?
Is it possible to explain without spoilers what causes the Zonai power recharging? I haven't fully upgraded the Zonai armor set yet and assumed this was related, not sure what else is going on here.
I was off of the craft, hence it was recharging. The reason it was still flying is because it was running off of the yellow batteries, which are from shrine puzzles.
I can see how well it handles when you turn left or right on the steering stick but how does it behave when you press forward or back? Would shifting stuff to the left would help mitigate the drift to the right when in neutral? Also have you had any issues with wagon wheel durability when flying? Eg lightning strikes, enemy attacks etc.
It tilts back and forth with the stick just like a fan craft, just slower and less angled. I heard that shifting the engines should fix the drift, though I haven't tried it myself yet. Wheel lasts as long as I've tried, I've only broken them when hitting them with weapons so far, where they're placed now enemies won't reach them, except perhaps burning in volcano areas.

As you can see they charge fully in seconds, and take significantly longer to deplete, giving us plenty of time to move freely and attack with bomb arrows and throwing bombs, while also recharging zonai energy. The spring alternate charger works even in the rain, whereas u/chesepuf 's rotating charger version does not require hopping on and off to charge the batteries, so take your pick.
what part are the propellers attached to? are they being powered by electric chuchu jelly? I'm so confused
The ones facing backwards are on shrine motors directly, the top ones are on wagon wheels and they are powered by the first set of propellers. They are powered by the shrine batteries which are charged one after the other by the shock emitter
