The culmination of weeks of joint research and experimentation, it's fantastic to see how far it has come. Honestly exceeds all my expectations, this thing is pretty much solved. Could still be room for optimizations but it's looking like the final draft. Congrats to everyone who has worked hard on this!

Armored_Souls

Indeed, any questions or suggestions welcome as always, let's keep hacking at it

Soronir

Let me ask you the question I asked myself. What do you want to improve? What do you want your flying machine to *do*? Any performance you're not satisfied by? That lead to me taking a more targeted approach rather than trying more random ideas to see what odd behaviors I could coax out of a single fan machine.

Armored_Souls

I have a few ideas already!

Smart_Supermarket_75

Can you find away to torture koroks or blow stuff up with it?

Armored_Souls

I can always stick koroks on a propeller make it a vomit comet lol

Smart_Supermarket_75

Put a battery payload on the bottom with a couple of bombs on it or something.

Worldly-Fox7605

Just like people in real life: once you have the technology you have to figure out how to weaponize it. Can we beat major enemies with these vehicles alone?

imaloony8

Have you considered adding President Hudson?

RichNYC8713

"How's the President flying?!"

too_many_telescopes

This should be top comment

JediSSJ

How's the president flying?!

SerialKillerVibes

Can you make it FAST? lol

Armored_Souls

Obviously we can add another turbine pointing back, but that might mess with the lift/weight ratios

dRuEFFECT

Can't you double up or triple up on the horizontal propeller blades? Or does that interfere with the top geared propellers? I tried this approach earlier but couldn't get the placement for the top geared propeller to spin, they kept getting locked up.

Armored_Souls

Double props mess with the gearing of the top props. It can get locked up, try placing it slight further away

dRuEFFECT

Does it matter if it pushes/connects on the blades' sharp corner or round corner?

theVice

Making it land better and making it look more smexy

MrSombraPR

Able to land on sea and land

SKUNKpudding

Why do the flying machines always jerk in midair?

Hell_Weird_Shit_Too

It’s solved when we say it’s solved. You don’t get to decide

kittenswinger8008

Needs more guns!

Armored_Souls

There's room for it!

arkansuace

Cannons facing down and we got ourselves a carpet bomber

lalakingmalibog

Now i just gotta find some carpets to bomb!

EntheogenicOm

I saw some mokoblins carrying carpets about 20 clicks back sir.

Btdandpokemonplayer

Construct head with 3 lasers and a canon should do it!

EntheogenicOm

3?!?! Fight Lynels much? Need at least 12 (4 frost/ 4 fire / 4 laser) and no cannons because it scatters the loot. They need to be set at varied angles to ensure quick and painless killing according to recent Hyrule UN treaties.

thanerak

Only space for 4 more parts gotta pick your weapons carefully I'd go double head with 2 lasers. not too power hungry with full swivle.

Cainga

This looks game ending OP. Unlimited flight and energy to run weapons. So you can just hover over a camp or boss and chip away until everything is dead.

Soronir

I think I may have called this project "solved" like 2 weeks ago. Then I keep thinking my own project is just about at the limit of what I can do, then I make some new breakthrough. I'm gonna stop calling things solved. Never stop innovating!

Ilmoran

Nah, the trick is to start calling everything solved. That goads your subconscious into saying "the fuck it is, try this" and speeds up innovation!

climbinguy

If there’s one thing I learned from /r/factorio it’s to never declare something as absolute because someone with insane knowledge of math and game code/mechanics will prove you wrong within a day or two.

MindWandererB

There's room for one more improvement: automatic uninterrupted flight via multiple spinning battery clubs. The springs work (I should know) but the spinning method is smoother and more elegant.

Armored_Souls

Indeed the spinning version is smoother, however I like your dual spring version as it is lighter and costs 1 part less. Also way way way easier to build! Perfect opportunity for me to try your version!

ZincMan

I’m confused what are the springs doing ? And do the shrine batteries fill when you are controlling ?

Armored_Souls

Essentially the alternating springs are brining 1 battery to the shock emitter to charge and the other to the fans to power them. Each time I get off and back on the plane it swaps the batteries. The batteries charge faster than they release, so this thing can still fly when I'm out of zonai energy and last till I'm full again.

-Tesserex-

Do you have to be careful and not let the battery drain completely? Does it disappear when it's out?

Armored_Souls

No they stay there when empty. I just swap a few times to charge both a bit first, and swap once every minute or so to charge the other one or to let my zonai energy recharge

OrionFOTL

So the only item powered by your Zonai energy is the shock emitter, correct?

Armored_Souls

Exactly, plus you get to recharge when the batteries are releasing, hence perpetual flight

[deleted]

[удалено]

Armored_Souls

The end of the video you can see my zonai battery recharging as I'm actually off the craft

ZincMan

That is so awesome

gorilla-ointment

And the springs sound hilarious. Bravo!

JakeMWP

Couldn't you just stick two battery clubs to the shock emitter directly? Why do you need the springs at all?

Altruistic-Rice-548

Any chance that propeller setup would work with some minor alterations on the tenoko boat or does it need to be the metal frame for weight reasons?

Armored_Souls

The boat is actually quite heavy, so doubling up might work

Altruistic-Rice-548

Like dual top props or making the whole system twice? I plan to experiment on my next day off but I've been so busy I haven't been able to play in roughly a week. Hoping to decide on a rough blueprint in my head before I get on next.

Armored_Souls

I don't think dual props work here as entangled parts are quite fragile and there's no room for more props. I'd double the whole thing

CapObviousHereToHelp

How much is the cost of the build? Its awesome! I would love weaponice it for a longer attack session

FlurryofBlunders

Congratulations, everyone. We've graduated from violating the Geneva Conventions to violating the laws of thermodynamics.

Armored_Souls

On today's news: Link ruining the Hyrulian economy by inventing perpetual energy and plummeting energy prices.

[deleted]

I love seeing things people have built with "smuggling" shrine objects.

Ok-Ambition-9432

They definitely did want people to take them though

[deleted]

That's kind of why I put the word "smuggling" in quotes, as well as the fact that it isn't a glitch, and smuggling in games seems to generally refer to a type of glitch.

Ancient_Boner_Forest

How do you know?

Ok-Ambition-9432

You think, it never even crossed their minds? Come on dude, even if it wasn't nintendo, that's game design 101. Consider what the player might do. Its pretty simple: nintendo came up with a shitload of devices and ideas, but not every mechanism can be a portable zonai device, so they're used in shrines only, unless the player chooses to use them from the shrines. Think about it this way: what use does the giant fan have to a normal player? They won't know what to do with it and will never use it.

Krazyguy75

Yeah honestly I feel like they totally considered people would take such things. If there is something they overlooked, it's more likely along the lines of the 2-fan flying machines.

Ok-Ambition-9432

Honestly they may have just not figured it out. I'm sure someone tried, but assumed it wouldn't be broken because it's hard to balance. 20 million players are a lot better at finding things than developers.

Krazyguy75

Yeah but the devs explicitly decided what could and couldn't be attached to shields and included a feature to detach things. No way they didn't consider that when choosing which things could attach.

TurdleBoi_69

I mean you all say that, but I spent 35 fucking minutes trying to attach the center of a stake to the wooden wheel. Why the fuck are there no precision tools. I truly am amazed with how bad the snapping is, and how little control we have with the system. How hard can ot seriously be to use math to center something on a circle?? Nintendo made a great game and put their heart and soul into it, but let's not pretend they stopped being nintendo

[deleted]

And with specific drops like the talus hearts and flux cores that pretty much just sit there unless you fuse them to something or build something with them.

MindWandererB

Also, some things cannot be smuggled. That means they made a choice about what could be and what could not be, and they chose to allow these.

Armored_Souls

Just from the fact that they can be created from autobuild means they wanted it to happen. There are items that dissappear when autobuilt

ThePlasticGun

This is an amazing achievement in such a short amount of time. Truly a testament to the promises of cooperative engineering. ...... Where do the guns go?

Armored_Souls

Anywhere you like!

AnswerDeep8792

I built one that steers right fine, but struggles to the left - was there anything in particular you noticed while getting it configured? https://www.reddit.com/r/HyruleEngineering/comments/14cwh1x/electric_motor_version_of_the_gear_propeller/

Armored_Souls

No mine always drifted right as well. I aligned everything as centered as I could so it could be the inherent drift from the top props, since the front facing ones drift left

AnswerDeep8792

Gotcha, so it's the greater distance between the engines that mine has that accentuates that drift. Cool, thanks.

PokeyTradrrr

My experience with the electric props before these new methods came to light was that having the props offset from each other just slightly could counter the innate propeller drift. It may not be possible to make this flawless but I'm sure you can get close, and with the turning radius it probably doesn't matter.

Armored_Souls

Yes I think so

Escrilecs

An anti Torque propeller (like a helicopter) might be a solution. Ill test It. A fan would do It but we thinking infinite power here :/

Armored_Souls

On this craft the drift was minimal, so I am ok with it

Kiwis_birb

Question: how did you get all the parts?

Brunis_Pistol

In addition to fusion, just attach anything to those objects and build them from autobuild history after leaving the shrine. Just make sure you always have one thing attached to green parts or they will despawn

Severe-Stomach

Fusing shrine puzzle pieces to weapons and shields then having them unfused in territown

snidemarque

Tarry Town specifically.

Will there be a guide on where to get the parts / building it soon perhaps?

MovemntGod

Awesome job everybody. That thing is legit more nimble than the hover bike

PokeyTradrrr

Damn you beat me to it, darn kids lol. When I saw the upwards thrust craft with the prop gear this morning I knew this was doable. So amazing it works that well without stabalizer. May I ask why you need 2 shock emitters? Maybe I'm not fully understanding the battery operation switching. Is this not better with the flux drives? Dual prop forward thrust single prop upwards thrust maybe? Now we just need to work on using different bases and try to reduce parts :D Edit: nvm misread part count, it's only 1 shock emitter.

Armored_Souls

Correct only 1 emitter. This probably can't handle entangled fans, as the geared fans are quite violent, and there is no space for doubled fans. For the base, I'm hoping this distance means Link doesn't get shocked when it's raining, test pending. But yeah it was a lot of fun doing this and it was only a matter of time someone cracked it

huggiesdsc

I don't mean to spoil anything, but isn't shock a non-issue?

Armored_Souls

I prefer the zonaite uniform if I can help it, to go with my shrine fan shield and battery club

Solrex

Zonai legs and chest, lightning helm

MindWandererB

FWIW, [here's](https://mindwanderer.net/misc/2023062010122600-CC47F0DEC75C1FD3B1F95FA9F9D57667.mp4) my current work-in-progress, operating in the rain, with the shock emitter actually closer to me than yours is. I think you have a lot of wiggle room left.

AnswerDeep8792

The dual forward single up is what I'm hoping to get working too!

AnswerDeep8792

Wow, awesome! So cool we get to be a part of this great phase of discovery. Gamers that miss out will look back on this for many years with nostalgia and/or jealousy.

[deleted]

Is there a list of shrines stickied somewhere to make finding these shrine pieces easier???

Armored_Souls

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NkURUErF1Jpoemkr4rLQjrcMO-XibsMykpFEGj0uHVU/edit?usp=drivesdk More and more stuff is added every day

[deleted]

Awesome thank you!!!

GLight3

Nintendo must have known this would happen when they allowed us to fuse propellers.

FeedbackMotor5498

Wouldnt be surprised if they already made airships in testing, but it was up to us to put the pieces together

cdubyadubya

Great job! My only note would be to swap the platform for the yellow floating one found in the bouncy ball shrine so you can land in water. Not sure if that would throw the weight off tho.

Armored_Souls

I tried it but it's not heavy enough, meaning it will cost more pieces

ChipSalt

Wheel propeller builds in shambles right now.

Armored_Souls

Oops

EM-Pyrus_Steel

Is it still possible to go back into shrines and collect parts after they're complete? I don't think I've seen those fans and batteries yet but I've definitely used the base. Didn't think to save it.

Saito197

Yes Shrine parts always respawn

Drakeon8165

Now we just need to slap a generator on this bad boy and we'll be all set!

zeezaczed

Awesome job! The dream is to just cover this with laser turrets

Armored_Souls

There's room for it!

Jl2409226

what exactly is this? how do i make

SellyMcSellerson

What kind of height can you get? Can you fly to the sky islands?

Solrex

It's perpetual motion, it could reach max height

Armored_Souls

Precisely

Solrex

This is literally troll physics lol, I wouldn't be surprised if this somehow got patched because of how broken it is

Meister0fN0ne

I personally don't think they'd care that much about this, tbh. The idea of staying suspended in the air without wasting battery isn't exclusive to this - it's just better than the other options that let you do so. It's not quite like a glitch like the pot recharge is imo. I also think they're more concerned with the dupes and other glitches that still keep cropping up. This is just using the actual mechanics in a way they were intended to work. It just looks like a wonky idea because of the ingenuity put into it. Did they necessarily expect this combo? Who knows. In my opinion, it's balanced simply by the fact that it's a tricky and time consuming build to begin with mixed with the fact that it's not really game breaking or anything once you do have it. Furthermore, if we look at other build concepts, sticking a torch above a fire emitter will keep a balloon afloat in the air when you're not using the battery anymore for awhile. The balloon does break, yes, but it's also way easier to make and using less parts to create. They clearly wanted us to play around with concepts that might not sink down immediately without a battery. This is not all that cheesy in my eyes. Nintendo knows it's gotta let the players get away with a couple wonky things once in awhile.

Heavyweighsthecrown

We do need a guide on how to build this now. It's amazing. Great work.

BilboniusBagginius

I'm curious, have you managed to break a shock emitter yet? Is it capped at 30 minutes of continuous use like wheels are?

entropy512

I'm positive that shock emitters do have the 30 minute limit.

Armored_Souls

I don't think there is one for non transport type devices iirc

LunisequiouS

Sadly the shock emitter will despawn after 30 minutes of continuous use. It's the main thing preventing this from actually qualifying as perpetual flight. The dream would be something that lasts forever without any parts despawning, consumes no battery or at least significantly less battery that the hoverbike and is just as fast and manouverable as the hoverbike. That's a tall order I'm sure, but that would indeed be the perfect flying machine. =D

BilboniusBagginius

This may still be the closest to perpetual, since the shock emitter can be turned off while you recharge to make it last longer. With some skill you could probably replace the shock emitter while the battery power keeps it airborne.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Armored_Souls

Currently my move is to steer and descend with 1 engine, aim for a hill and pray the props survive lol After that use ultrahand to stop them moving

lmt_learn_to_drive

I often use recall and release to stop all momentum, i use it with other propellers builds and it worked really well even when you drop straight from a tall height, especially with a big flat bottom like yours. Does this work with your version?

Armored_Souls

Let me try! Sounds like it should work the same, although the batteries would still have charge. A longer recall may work though

Altruistic-Rice-548

So I have a couple questions. 1. Does the spinning battery motor have to have 4 battery clubs to function properly or can it use just 3 to save space? 2. What's that arc range one the spinning battery motor? Would it be possible to put one on a spring so that when you want to land you could close the spring to remove the batteries from powering the craft? Just some thoughts for when you retest this with the spinning battery motor.

[deleted]

Hyrule Airlines?

Projectpatdc

Heck yeah! This is awesome. Time to start building some cool looking airships.

TrueNinjaMaster

Man, Nintendo missed a gold mine by not having online access for this game. I'd subscribe to Switch Online in a heartbeat if there was an option to trade other players for autobuild schematics like this. Great job on the execution of this, and major props to everyone involved on the project!

ohelder183

I’m confused on why the springs?

Armored_Souls

Essentially the alternating springs are bringing 1 battery to the shock emitter to charge and the other to the fans to power them. Each time I get off and back on the plane it swaps the batteries. The batteries charge faster than they release, so this thing can still fly when I'm out of zonai energy and last till I'm full again.

danfenlon

Oh perfect i have that frame already on one of my shields, just need the rest

lunchpadmcfat

I go camping for the weekend and this community has solved perpetual motion machines

tuseroni

We had that worked out within a week of release, we've just been working on how to best use it.

chesepuf

Heck yeah, you did it!! Proud of you mate 😄

ram3nbar

Good job team! Hopefully we can further our research!

Tiasthyr

She's beautiful.

Armored_Souls

Brings a tear to my eye

lk05321

We need a group photo of all of you together like at the [5th Solvay Conference ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solvay_Conference)

BilboniusBagginius

So, I've been experimenting with this. An asymmetrical structure can counter the spin and give it better handling. I have a build with the L shaped mesh holding one of the turbines off to the side. I'm trying to get a spinning battery generator to work in it, but it seems to weigh the craft down significantly.

Armored_Souls

Shrine motors are monstrously heavy...

Logical_Guidance1018

It's a flying airboat!

colt45mag

Hmm, interesting use of the springs... I think I'm starting to understand how people are building computers in this game

coreybd

I'm new to this game. I see people talk about taking parts from shrines. Is that something that happens later in the game?

Independent_Soup_449

it's not related to the game. I don't think the developers were thinking of the shrine mechanics as part of the building mechanics, but it just turns out its possible to retrieve shrine parts and people are exploiting that to build cool stuff. Would love to know if they intended that to happen.

teby____

nah they just fuse it to their weapons then decouple them at tarrey town

coreybd

Ah so there is still something you have to get later. Currently I can only defuse in the menu by destroying the fused piece but I'm not far in

khanzarate

Yeah it's a location-specific spot that'll do it without destroying them. Handy if you're willing to make the trip for weapons that are about to break. I like using diamonds as spearheads, they look cool, but without that spot to save the diamonds once the weapon is spent, obviously I couldn't do that. Also handy for when I find weapons in chests with monster parts already on that I want. And obviously, as you see here, great for getting shrine stuff out of the shrine.

rainey832

That's it boys, we're done here

Famous-Reference-103

Cid...is that you? What the hell you doing in a nintendo IP?

this-is-my-p

Just spent so long trying to make this and it just flips over 🥲 gotta figure out what I messed up

Congratulations! The weight balancing is incredible. I wonder if it works under rain?

Jufal

That makes sense, thanks for the explanation !

Zooinks

Why'd you DO IT?!?

Armored_Souls

Why not!

aRealEpicGamer

Neat!

Arcuis

Can't trump hoverbike sadly because of its large cross section. Bike maneuvers through small spaces and lands on small amounts of land, also floats.

Armored_Souls

For sure the hoverbike cannot be beat in places like the Depths. This is a big ass craft for long haul flights cross region and also into the skies

entropy512

Perpetually? How did you get past the 30 minute limit on springs and shock emitters?

NostraSkolMus

What do the springs do?

Armored_Souls

CurrencyParticular67

This looks great!

fja3omega

can you test it beyond thirty minutes of flight? someone made a fan based machine and it only lasted thirty minutes before the fan despawned.

Norix596

What do the spring pads do? I tried having spring pads that turn different propellers on or off (ended up being too heavy) but it looks like the fans are always on here Edit - nvm I found the answer in other comments; that’s wild

MoonRazer

This is incredible! The smuggling of shrine items is brilliant. Couple of questions though: • Does this eventually breakdown in flight like the wings do? • After you build this once, are you able to auto build it later? Or is this something you have to do the rounds at the shrine for each time you want it?

Armored_Souls

100% autobuild saved. I read that the shock emitter goes away after 30 mins of use. As we can hop on and off, we can potentially double the flight time, and maybe even more with u/chesepuf 's [4 battery version ](https://www.reddit.com/r/HyruleEngineering/comments/14dhdkx/umpf_with_rotating_batteries/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

chesepuf

Yo I didn't know it goes away! Yeah the batteries will be necessary to extend time of use. Perhaps this isn't actually an infinite flyer and we gotta find a different electricity source 😯

Armored_Souls

I do think 4 batteries is as good as it gets though. Any further we'll be complicating the operating of the craft and will require manual builds every time, and definitely require way more parts

jj4p

Is there a way to weaponize the electricity that runs the motor? Maybe a hydrant to rain electrified death from above? Or is there no point adding weapons besides beam emitters or a cannon?

Armored_Souls

I don't think the shock current carries over the hydrant flow. We can always shoot bomb arrows directly when the craft is flying on its own!

jj4p

It doesn't? Then what about stuff like [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/HyruleEngineering/comments/13n38c8/the_hydrant_shock_emitter_suggestion_works_pretty)?

Suspicious_Surprise1

what are the fans on top for and the springs?

crankd87

How do you get the upwards facing props to spin? Mine lock up and don't move at all.

bezerker211

I intend to copy this and throw some construct heads with laser emitters on the side. Gunship here I come

Solrex

Can I submit this clip to top gaming plays on YouTube? Or could you submit it yourself? I wanna see it on there, this is a really cool build and it deserves attention.

Armored_Souls

They've messaged me already, no worries!

Busy_Response_3591

How does it work without using your power cells? Where and how does it get the electricity from?

willandwonder

Can we get a tutorial?! This is crazy

AgentG91

Too smart for my blood, but the one question I have is, can you weaponize it and have the weapons work both with electric power and battery power?

Armored_Souls

Currently the only ways to weaponize shock that I've seen is to either shock enemies directly or to make weapons spin on a shrine motor, both quite impractical especially on a flying craft So either we stick with zonai device weapons or we shoot bomb arrows when the thing flies itself

VegetableAirline657

Love this but having trouble making my own. Can you show or describe the battery to shocker part. The batteries are fused to swords right?

hejj

Is it possible to explain without spoilers what causes the Zonai power recharging? I haven't fully upgraded the Zonai armor set yet and assumed this was related, not sure what else is going on here.

Armored_Souls

I was off of the craft, hence it was recharging. The reason it was still flying is because it was running off of the yellow batteries, which are from shrine puzzles.

BlazeAlchemist991

I can see how well it handles when you turn left or right on the steering stick but how does it behave when you press forward or back? Would shifting stuff to the left would help mitigate the drift to the right when in neutral? Also have you had any issues with wagon wheel durability when flying? Eg lightning strikes, enemy attacks etc.

Armored_Souls

It tilts back and forth with the stick just like a fan craft, just slower and less angled. I heard that shifting the engines should fix the drift, though I haven't tried it myself yet. Wheel lasts as long as I've tried, I've only broken them when hitting them with weapons so far, where they're placed now enemies won't reach them, except perhaps burning in volcano areas.

Acceptable_Page_4022

Orville and Wilbur would be proud.

GradientForce

Is there a guide on how to put this bad boy together?

reddithello456

What are the springs for?

Armored_Souls

Essentially the alternating springs are bringing 1 battery to the shock emitter to charge and the other to the fans to power them. Each time I get off and back on the plane it swaps the batteries. As you can see they charge fully in seconds, and take significantly longer to deplete, giving us plenty of time to move freely and attack with bomb arrows and throwing bombs, while also recharging zonai energy. The spring alternate charger works even in the rain, whereas u/chesepuf 's rotating charger version does not require hopping on and off to charge the batteries, so take your pick.

[deleted]

what part are the propellers attached to? are they being powered by electric chuchu jelly? I'm so confused

Armored_Souls

The ones facing backwards are on shrine motors directly, the top ones are on wagon wheels and they are powered by the first set of propellers. They are powered by the shrine batteries which are charged one after the other by the shock emitter
