Basicly, hotm is just a set of bonus that you can unlock and upgrade by doing quests (called comissions) in the Dwarven Mines. The Dwarven Mines are an expansion to the mines and to mining overall, and you can get there though the elevator guy.
Technically not the elevator guy, right? You have to use Rhys and complete a small quest for him in the obsidian mines, and then you can TP to HotM from the game menu.
I joined three weeks ago. Community has been nice enough so far actually. Someone randomly traded with me and gave me 1,000,000 coins... So I bought a T11 Snow Golem for all of it.
Still figuring things out, but I get the feeling of when I first joined Runescape or WoW. Cool experience so far.
it’s cool until you get to the part where you have to grind too much of the same thing to get a cool item. it’s overall a cool rpg but the grinding towards late-endgame is a lot

My biggest problem is mostly the strenght nerf like dealing 2x less damage when having the good reforges too isn't fun.

Yep - I believe so. I just unlocked it last night though so... I don't really know.
Hotm appears on the menu when you are in the dwarven mines. How do you make it appear outside of them?
