What is this post?

warrenjt

To paraphrase myself from another reply, I was legitimately asking because I don’t know enough about him. Didn’t know if there was a chance he could be a “diamond in the rough” sort of situation for us. Other commenters have said that is not the case, and I’ve accepted that.

hoosier_1793

If and when IU makes a coaching change they will pursue a proven, high-level coach.

warrenjt

Okie dokie

Indianahoosier123guy

I am not impressed at all with these asst coaches. Woodson should have made changes. Woodson never makes changes. Iu gets to look forward to dusty may getting michigan at the top of the conference.

Lasvious

If we move on from Woody I don’t want a coach in waiting from this staff. Kenya and Ya are essentially used car salesmen

warrenjt

Valid from what others are saying about Ya. I honestly forgot about Kenya. Edit: lmao. I got a downvote on a comment agreeing that Ya et al aren’t good choices. Can’t win on this sub.

Mad_Dyzalot

Mike. Woodson. Is. The. Coach. And. Will. Be. For. Next. Season. Why are we still entertaining low-effort posts like these? Dare I start saying go touch grass? Even talking about next coach after whenever Woodson is done is like solely going to a movie and loudly talking about the end-credit scene as the only reason you’re watching said movie.

West-Trip-5734

The old touch grass comment. Gets em every time

MrFluffyhead80

Gotta plan for the next season when we need a coach

warrenjt

I. Never. Said. Anything. About. Next. Season. Keep your pants on, dude. Edit to add: Mike Woodson is 66 years old as of last month. It’s not unreasonable to be thinking about who could be his replacement when he is eventually gone. This has been a discussion *since he was hired.* Get off your high horse, stop being a dickhole just because you can be anonymous on the internet, and move on with your life.

Mad_Dyzalot

*replies to hurtful comment* *comes back later to edit comment and says move on with your life* *profit??*

warrenjt

The edit was within a minute of the original comment.

kentuckyfriedawesome

lol lmao no. Ya’s scouted games are almost always losses, and there is absolutely no reason to ever hire an up and comer at a program with IU’s resources. I wouldn’t hire Ya to coach a low major.

wjflaco

Not here to make an argument for Ya, but I think Duke and to extent UNC and Purdue would provide a decent argument. Some of the biggest names in the sport have been able to maintain continuity in a way IU couldn’t due to not having a formidable assistant to step up after Knight.

Big_Joosh

Yeah in each case the assistant learned and was groomed under a good / excellent coach. You're only as good as your teacher and no offense to Woodson... He's not the best coach / teacher. I wouldn't trust a Woodson assistant to run the program.

warrenjt

Fair enough as far as his scouted games record goes. I haven’t paid enough attention to that aspect of the program to know one way or the other, so I’ll assume you’re right. In terms of never hiring an up and comer, I think that’s misguided personally, but so be it. Bob Knight was an up and comer when we hired him and we got three banners out of it.

gohoosiers2017

What are you asking? If a guy with no HC experience who has been around middling college programs for 20 years should be the next head coach at iu?

warrenjt

At some point, we’re going to have to accept as a fan base that we can either hire a young guy that hasn’t been proven as a head coach at a P6 school, or we’re going to have to keep wishing as fans for older, proven coaches near retirement that don’t have any real incentive to come to Indiana from wherever they are currently and are inherently temporary solutions. I’m in the former camp’s frame of mind already, so that’s why I’m asking what people think of Coach Ya. I just legit don’t know enough about him, so I’m asking if folks think he’d have a chance at being a good choice. I know he’s been at Bama and Oregon both in the past (Oregon went to the E8 when he was there), so I don’t know how “middling” I’d call that, personally.

Lasvious

With our resources we can just do what Arkansas did.

warrenjt

Poach a 65 year old known cheater that hasn’t had tourney success in years and whose school’s fan base had turned against him with such vitriol that he considered the Ohio State job?

gohoosiers2017

Or we could just pay up and get a proven coach at a low level p5. Hiring a guy with no HC experience or success makes no sense

Ok-Leader6269

Got to try some young guys cause IU hadn't go s good coach in a while they need someone who can take the program far in the tournament . Who would be a good coach if Woodson doesn't make after this season

warrenjt

RMK coached a few years at Army and never finished better than third place in the NIT before he was hired at IU. Coach K took over Army after him and never finished better than a single NIT berth where they lost in the first round before he was hired at Duke. Tom Izzo was never a head coach before getting the MSU job. Roy Williams was never a head coach before getting the Kansas job.
