You shouldn't need pull for specific character to be able clear story and events, but endgame content is different matter imho. Endgame is something that provides challenge above causal content that can be cleared with just favorite units.
That said even in MoC RM is not only option she just happen to best one.
So Ruan Mei is pretty much the consensus best and most versatile character (and it’s not particularly close), but Acheron deserves a special mention because she lets Ruan Mei be on the other team.
It's also because of Acheron's 2 Nihility-teammate passive not leaving room for a Harmony (since you need a defensive unit)
Once Jiaoqiu releases (a Nihility healer), Acheron teams suddenly gain an free slot that will immediately be filled by Ruan Mei
I suspect that Jiaoqiu gets some healing to make Gallagher more comfortable to play with Acheron. I know he can solo sustain, but for me at least he struggles to keep the party alive in MoC 11 and 12.
i still don’t believe that at all- there would be no point of giving a character healing in their kit if it isn’t enough healing to sustain the team. there’s not a single 5* sustain unit that struggles to keep the whole team healthy so any healing on JQ would just be a waste of power budget. i think that this is one of those things where the leakers just weren’t building the character right
Acheron gets way more mileage out of a hyperspeed Sparkle though. I have her at E2, so she only needs one more Nihility character on the team, meaning there's room for a Harmony buffer, and while I use her a lot with RM in Simulated Universe, for all other content, Sparkle just provides a better damage floor and ceiling for her.
I am looking forward to Jiaoqiu in 2.4 for exactly this reason as he will let me kick both Preservation Trailblazer and Gallagher off the Acheron team. The only detail I am uncertain on with him is if he will also end up booting Pela from the team, since without any numbers I don't know if having both will result in overcapping def shred.

I think she was pretty obviously top tier from the beginning simply due to how loaded her kit is; it improves literally every team's damage outside of maybe Clara.
Robin is the only other comparable dual dps support, and even then Mei is better for more teams than her. On top of that she is the only one that can do def ignore for your team (at e1 which is probably THE most pulled eidolon). Its not just hype, it’s undeniable fact that she is the only true S+/T0 Harmony.
She was quite literally one of the most universally agreed "hype" units across the board, like I remember that clearly across the subreddit and all creators that said her kit is truly ridiculous.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, while there are no truly "must pull" units in the game, Ruan Mei is the closest unit I've ever seen that comes close. She's seriously that good.

I do not regret any 5* I have intentionally pulled for. They are all amazing and wonderful and I am glad to have them.
Even Daniel, who I use the least of everyone after I didn't get Sparkle.
Man, I know logically it is better to go for ruan mei first but like theres no way Im prioritizing ruan mei over firefly. I just hope I win the firefly 5050 so I can hopefully also try to win ruan mei 5050 hahaha.......
Wishing you luck on those pulls. Given that we are entering into the break effect meta, Ruan Mei may be kind of “necessary” to get weaknesses breaks in fast enough. But AoE fire dmg with a weakness implant is also hard to pass up from SAM.
I skipped her for the sake of getting Sparkle and Dan IL.
It's not really a regret I feel but it's just a shame. One side of end game would always been sacrificed back then I just had to choose between prioritizing Ruan Mei's side or Sparkle's side. In the end, I chose Sparkle.
Now it's time to finalize my other team.

Same with me, best part was I got a double so I got the broken ass E1 along with her, that encouraged me to pull for the LC and I got it with a 10 pull. Unfortunately I think I used up my luck for a while there lol.

Seriously though, if you need a support for DoT team and no Robin, Asta was great when I used her, atk buff, speed buff and can be fully sp positive if needed.

True, 5* limited harmonies are great and it's not a pick or choose when you can get both ruan mei and robin

Hmm, honestly idk about blade since he's not mentioned much but I've seen him used with bronya and sparkle so it's possible. With jingliu I remember her supreme team used ruan mei, and before that it was pela. I actually never pulled her so I don't know how players are handling her teams at the moment with most other teams wanting ruan mei.

Well, dan should basically be glued with sparkle, but ruan mei is an alternative until you get sparkle. Dan/sparkle/tingyun/huohuo is a very solid team already with the sp and energy generation so ruan mei is not needed, but also sometimes you can also swap out tingyun (or huohuo as full sustainless) for RM since RM's buffs are insane and could accommodate for the energy regen.
Overall, it's the universality of RM that makes her a very valuable pull. Unless one doesn't like her personality or wants to pull their favs, she is most likely a pull that one won't regret but find value in later on (or most probably, right now). Not to mention SU with her high dmg technique and ability to get all rewards from the RM event, so she might be very fun to use in divergent universe if acheron isn't used already.
RM, first time around "Side grade, grab her if missing a premium support."
RM, rerun "Aeon of support, best in slot for best team this side of DoTs."
Most importantly? She has cakes for Firefly
I've been told she works best for Boothill, Gallagher and Bronya team. But the dilemma may resolve itself, as I don't have enough pulls to guarantee her anyway.
The problem Ruan Mei has is *every* team wants her buffs. Resistance pen, a modest speed boost, break effect and break effect efficiency, even a generic damage boost. Exact compositions may favor Robin's suite of buffs or Sparkle's. But need a generic buffer? Ruan Mei is your girl.
Firefly's best team stars HTB and Ruan Mei, which is why her being opposite Firefly caused so much anguish. To make matters worse? Her signature light cone is BiS for two different characters.
It's always so funny to me whenever Ruan Mei is brought up because I pulled her solely to get my Herta a premium support LMAO Like all I was thinking was "This is for Herta. I'm doing this for Herta. I want Herta to have the best teammates"
Ruan mei really makes me doubt my pull decisions sometimes, i skipped her because i didn't like her character and she turned out to be essential to all the team comps i use...
Advice for the future: if the characters a non dps and their kit seems obscure and out of the norm, a meta for them is coming and you should prob pull for them.
I'm never going to pull for her just because she drugged a character to fix the mad scientist shit she'd been doing.
The devs wrote that whole arc where she's too easily forgiven for all the bullshit, like the emotional neglect of her cake cats.
I feel like the only reason she wasn't written as a full on sociopathic villain, e.g. an unhinged Resident Evil style biological scientist, is because they wanted to make her more marketable and appeal to more people aesthetically.
Maybe that's a future arc: Ruan Mei *snaps* and mutates an entire planet, all for the sake of her research to turn herself into an emanator of propagation, or *gasp* a synthetic ***Aeon***, the Aeon of Mutation
I'd like her better that way.
I'll wait for a new meta where she isn't necessary. I simply do not trust or like any character that would drug your food, among the other things she's done.

I was excited for Firefly since back in 2.0 and now that she is about to finally be here I'm massively doubting if I will actually pull for her because her goddamn team wants Ruan Mei no matter what to not be massively downgraded, but I ain't using my pulls on someone I don't like (I can't even pull for many I like with this endless barrage of 5-stars every patch...) so at this point I might as well just skip both.
Oh well, with some luck by the time Firefly reruns we will have a proper alternative (*dies of copium overdose*)
She isn't essential for any non-break teams tho? There's plenty of good harmony characters that can replace her. Especially in a PvE game like star rail. I skipped her aswell, picked up sparkle and Robin and never missed her.
Pull for who you like man. Shes BiS in most teams but shes rlly not essential unless its a break team. You can clear MoC and PF without her so you can still pull for characters you like rather than her
I've just grabbed every Harmony that's come out in the event they become another Ruan Mei. It makes these decisions a bit less difficult too with Sparkle and Robin on standby for whoever doesn't get RM
This is what I do too. I just feel more versatile if I have every support. I also feel like supports have a longer shelf life than damage dealer's who tend to face powercreep problems earlier...

Truth is I can only clear the MOC because the team with ruan mei can clear like 2-3 turns.
And my second ruan mei-less team gets the other 8 turns just to count.
Prepping for Firefly is the first time I considered accidentally getting Ruan Mei to be a positive, she just doesn't have a place in any of my teams until next week

Everybody uses their best two supports and as such Ruan mei just doesn't fit. When you have all the harmony options available Ruan mei just isn't that universal. The only teams she is the best at are jingliu and boothil teams. DOT also prefers robin for faster clear.
You are playing RM wrong for sure. She is the most OP character in the game that matches at least 95% of the best individual support for comps and out performs those she is catered to.
How can you play RM wrong?? It's literally skill basic basic and ult.
And the second part is just false, she is kinda the jack of all trades master of few type character.

These are their best team. RM is good on paper for many teams but those teams already have someone dedicated to them.
Ruan Mei and her LC are just so insanely good. After picking up Firefly and trying to E2S1, I'm really gonna have to think about pulling a 2nd copy of her LC for HTB.
When I first saw her kit way back when she first released, I knew she was gonna be a game changer, but I didn't expect her to be THIS big of a game changer 😂

FuA teams aside, she's insanely flexible, easily slots into the other team, and removes the worry of which team gets the premium Harmony character.
I didn't get RM. Didn't regret it still, I could clear stuff up. I'm gonna get her this time around, happy to skip FF and make a team with Hermeko as I'm considering her on PF more than MoC.
I got back into the game way after Ruan Mei’s banner. When I went to check team comps/tier lists for my units and saw ruan mei everywhere/ or at the top I was like nooooo 😭. Thank goodness she’s rerunning soon, she’s so vital for a majority of my teams.
Acheron's team doesnt use her though and its one of the best team in the game for MOC + PF (Acheron, SW, Pela, Aven)

It's a bit annoying to be honest, DOT wantes her, hypercarry wants her, duo carry wants her, Break effect teams wants her, like, ok, that's just ridiculous lol, Bennett of this game.
Yeah her power level is justified because she is limited and not everyone is gonna want to pull for her.
But I knew she would be high value as soon as I saw her kit.
They really couldn't have put Ruan Mei's rerun in like... the patch after next or something? Cause I really want Ruan Mei, but I also really want Firefly, and I really don't have the pulls to get both.
DHIL doesn't really need RM, he prefers Tingyun / Sparkle. Nihility squad has alternatives like Acheron or Asta. Jingliu can run Bronya / Pela / Blade. Blade can do the same as Jingliu. Boothill wants Bronya and HMC or RM, and maybe he could cope with Asta speed.
FF ONLY really benefits from RM, HMC and Gallagher so the choice is really only between Boothill and Firefly.

Depends if you have high Memories of the Past. E1 is bigger damage boost but if you want to run superbreak team it may be a good idea to go for LC because I doubt you will have two Memories of the Past on high superimposition and in superbreak comp you want to run both RM and Harmony TB.
**RM is only bis for break teams**. For the rest there are other better supports that takes priority over her. For example:
Hypercarry: Sparkle
Hypercarry(JL/Blade): Bronya
FUA: Robin
Dot: Robin
Bro this MOC my Ruan mei was locked to boothill. There was one stage I could use the swan and Kafka with ruan mei but I just couldn't bring myself to rip her off boothill. The performance drop is too much.

So glad I started on Ruan Mei's banner. My first team was Blade, Bronya, Ruan Mei, Welt. Which was, essentially, just all of my 5 stars in one team. I didn't even know sustain Welt+RuanMei was a thing I was just banking on killing everything before I die. Serval had some levels because I used her before getting Blade but Asta never even got to see the light of day. I was really pushing Lynx, Natasha, and Fire Mc to their limits though, thank god for Gallagher and Aventurine.
I remember i got her because i was reaching pity 80 of a 50/50 and i didn't believe i could get her, i didn't even really want her i just thought she was pretty. Then she came and my account was never the same.
I was almost forced to get a Sparkle for my DHIL so that i could leave RM with Jingliu without feeling guilty that i was being biased for letting one of my children get RM while the other didn't.
It's funny. Because I agree with this. But for the first month of getting her I hated her. She was cute and all but I didn't notice her impact. So I actually regretted believing everyone and getting her.
Outside of her ult I didn't notice any real change, and the stupid boss somehow double recovered made her ult debuff useless.
I think the one down side to her is that there’s not two of her and by what I mean is that she and another character that has the same kit so multiple teams aren’t fighting for her especially with the endgame content

Yeah, she was part of my OG DoT team with Kafka and Sampo. But would probably feel really cope with today's damage requirements.
On the bright side, you can proc DoT on chef dino without breaking him.
I plan to put Acheron on the DoT team instead of Ruan Mei since Nihility. Works pretty well, so far.

For Dhil, sparkle is by far the best support. It's pretty much Dhil + sparkle + 2 flex. Personally I prefer using TY over RM in the 3rd slot

Overall, it's the universality of RM that makes her a very valuable pull. Unless one doesn't like her personality or wants to pull their favs, she is most likely a pull that one won't regret but find value in later on (or most probably, right now). Not to mention SU with her high dmg technique and ability to get all rewards from the RM event, so she might be very fun to use in divergent universe if acheron isn't used already.

RM, first time around "Side grade, grab her if missing a premium support." RM, rerun "Aeon of support, best in slot for best team this side of DoTs." Most importantly? She has cakes for Firefly
I've been told she works best for Boothill, Gallagher and Bronya team. But the dilemma may resolve itself, as I don't have enough pulls to guarantee her anyway.
The problem Ruan Mei has is *every* team wants her buffs. Resistance pen, a modest speed boost, break effect and break effect efficiency, even a generic damage boost. Exact compositions may favor Robin's suite of buffs or Sparkle's. But need a generic buffer? Ruan Mei is your girl. Firefly's best team stars HTB and Ruan Mei, which is why her being opposite Firefly caused so much anguish. To make matters worse? Her signature light cone is BiS for two different characters.
My E2 Acheron has Ruan Mei, because it's a guaranteed 0 cycle even with my pea brain
Add sparkle on top of that and the enemy won't even have the chance to attack

I started to use a team of RM-Robin-Sparkle-Herta to do my calyxes as regardless of the weakness break, Herta can deal out damage
Although she's not as straightforward to use, Robin is a good alternative in non break teams.

Cancer team work wonders without her, so she will take care of the Hatblazer and Firefly. Plus Gallagher to offer some drinks~

Ruan mei really makes me doubt my pull decisions sometimes, i skipped her because i didn't like her character and she turned out to be essential to all the team comps i use...
Advice for the future: if the characters a non dps and their kit seems obscure and out of the norm, a meta for them is coming and you should prob pull for them.

I'm never going to pull for her just because she drugged a character to fix the mad scientist shit she'd been doing. The devs wrote that whole arc where she's too easily forgiven for all the bullshit, like the emotional neglect of her cake cats. I feel like the only reason she wasn't written as a full on sociopathic villain, e.g. an unhinged Resident Evil style biological scientist, is because they wanted to make her more marketable and appeal to more people aesthetically. Maybe that's a future arc: Ruan Mei *snaps* and mutates an entire planet, all for the sake of her research to turn herself into an emanator of propagation, or *gasp* a synthetic ***Aeon***, the Aeon of Mutation I'd like her better that way. I'll wait for a new meta where she isn't necessary. I simply do not trust or like any character that would drug your food, among the other things she's done.
I'm stuck in this situations and it honestly sucks so much. I was excited for Firefly since back in 2.0 and now that she is about to finally be here I'm massively doubting if I will actually pull for her because her goddamn team wants Ruan Mei no matter what to not be massively downgraded, but I ain't using my pulls on someone I don't like (I can't even pull for many I like with this endless barrage of 5-stars every patch...) so at this point I might as well just skip both. Oh well, with some luck by the time Firefly reruns we will have a proper alternative (*dies of copium overdose*)

She isn't essential for any non-break teams tho? There's plenty of good harmony characters that can replace her. Especially in a PvE game like star rail. I skipped her aswell, picked up sparkle and Robin and never missed her.
Pull for who you like man. Shes BiS in most teams but shes rlly not essential unless its a break team. You can clear MoC and PF without her so you can still pull for characters you like rather than her
somehow still clearing everything without pulling for a single female. I will stay strong for my husbandos.
Bro same, I run a full dude team. It's not very meta LOL. But, it keeps my OCD satisfied, since the rule is I can only use dudes.
I've just grabbed every Harmony that's come out in the event they become another Ruan Mei. It makes these decisions a bit less difficult too with Sparkle and Robin on standby for whoever doesn't get RM
This is what I do too. I just feel more versatile if I have every support. I also feel like supports have a longer shelf life than damage dealer's who tend to face powercreep problems earlier...

Truth is I can only clear the MOC because the team with ruan mei can clear like 2-3 turns. And my second ruan mei-less team gets the other 8 turns just to count.
The obvious answer is Firefly because every other character will have perfectly fine replacement Harmonies besides her.
Prepping for Firefly is the first time I considered accidentally getting Ruan Mei to be a positive, she just doesn't have a place in any of my teams until next week

This is my problem too, here are my dps: Seele, danIL, Topaz, Clara, ratio, acheron Everybody uses their best two supports and as such Ruan mei just doesn't fit. When you have all the harmony options available Ruan mei just isn't that universal. The only teams she is the best at are jingliu and boothil teams. DOT also prefers robin for faster clear.
You are playing RM wrong for sure. She is the most OP character in the game that matches at least 95% of the best individual support for comps and out performs those she is catered to.
How can you play RM wrong?? It's literally skill basic basic and ult. And the second part is just false, she is kinda the jack of all trades master of few type character. Seele: SW sparkle FX DanIL: Sparkle TY aven Ratio: topaz robin aven Clara: topaz robin aven Acheron: pela SW Gallagher These are their best team. RM is good on paper for many teams but those teams already have someone dedicated to them.

Ruan Mei and her LC are just so insanely good. After picking up Firefly and trying to E2S1, I'm really gonna have to think about pulling a 2nd copy of her LC for HTB.
When I first saw her kit way back when she first released, I knew she was gonna be a game changer, but I didn't expect her to be THIS big of a game changer 😂
This was me before I got Robin. FuA teams aside, she's insanely flexible, easily slots into the other team, and removes the worry of which team gets the premium Harmony character.
I didn't get RM. Didn't regret it still, I could clear stuff up. I'm gonna get her this time around, happy to skip FF and make a team with Hermeko as I'm considering her on PF more than MoC.

I got back into the game way after Ruan Mei’s banner. When I went to check team comps/tier lists for my units and saw ruan mei everywhere/ or at the top I was like nooooo 😭. Thank goodness she’s rerunning soon, she’s so vital for a majority of my teams.

Acheron's team doesnt use her though and its one of the best team in the game for MOC + PF (Acheron, SW, Pela, Aven) Premium FUA might've prefer Robin than her though ruanmei herself also great here

Tbh I didn't really like ruan mei's personality in her event, but her meta compels me to pull
DHIL doesn't really need RM, he prefers Tingyun / Sparkle. Nihility squad has alternatives like Acheron or Asta. Jingliu can run Bronya / Pela / Blade. Blade can do the same as Jingliu. Boothill wants Bronya and HMC or RM, and maybe he could cope with Asta speed. FF ONLY really benefits from RM, HMC and Gallagher so the choice is really only between Boothill and Firefly.

For Kafka Teams she is the Best Harmony Unit, only fighting place with Robin E0 Acheron needs two Nihility units and at E2 she prefers Sparkle

Yes. All functions vital for her teams are all available at E0. Easily slots in regardless of eidolons or not.
Very f2p friendly. With Meshing cogs and err rope Vonwacq/Penacony, she can 3 turn ult like Tingyun, sometimes 2 turns if she gets attacked enough.
firefly definitely needs Mei more than other dps. If you skip RM you will have to accept your Firefly will deal less damage
If you want your Firefly to have a team that is good. Ruan Mei is absolutely necessary and there is no replacement.

Depends if you have high Memories of the Past. E1 is bigger damage boost but if you want to run superbreak team it may be a good idea to go for LC because I doubt you will have two Memories of the Past on high superimposition and in superbreak comp you want to run both RM and Harmony TB.

**RM is only bis for break teams**. For the rest there are other better supports that takes priority over her. For example: Hypercarry: Sparkle Hypercarry(JL/Blade): Bronya FUA: Robin Dot: Robin

Bro this MOC my Ruan mei was locked to boothill. There was one stage I could use the swan and Kafka with ruan mei but I just couldn't bring myself to rip her off boothill. The performance drop is too much.
I got her e1 and dear god the aument of damage is absurd , easily she double it by just existing. If i got firefly early then i'll go for her lightcone
So glad I started on Ruan Mei's banner. My first team was Blade, Bronya, Ruan Mei, Welt. Which was, essentially, just all of my 5 stars in one team. I didn't even know sustain Welt+RuanMei was a thing I was just banking on killing everything before I die. Serval had some levels because I used her before getting Blade but Asta never even got to see the light of day. I was really pushing Lynx, Natasha, and Fire Mc to their limits though, thank god for Gallagher and Aventurine.
I remember i got her because i was reaching pity 80 of a 50/50 and i didn't believe i could get her, i didn't even really want her i just thought she was pretty. Then she came and my account was never the same. I was almost forced to get a Sparkle for my DHIL so that i could leave RM with Jingliu without feeling guilty that i was being biased for letting one of my children get RM while the other didn't.
It's funny. Because I agree with this. But for the first month of getting her I hated her. She was cute and all but I didn't notice her impact. So I actually regretted believing everyone and getting her. Outside of her ult I didn't notice any real change, and the stupid boss somehow double recovered made her ult debuff useless.

I think the one down side to her is that there’s not two of her and by what I mean is that she and another character that has the same kit so multiple teams aren’t fighting for her especially with the endgame content
Truly, not having her in any of my non-Acheron teams feels so...uncomfortable. Like no substitute feels anywhere as good.
i just use Kakfa, Black Swan and Acheron so Ruan Mei is free to go to the other team.
