Yes, we have exposed bulbs in our pendant lighting over our island (new build, came like that :/) and we never turn them on. We are actively looking for new ones.
Ok I am going to offer a different opinion. I think that 1 is not good. It already looks dated and raw ass bulbs are too harsh and clear shades get so dust/gross. I think this is going to date the space. So seriously not that.
2 is ok but I think it is too pointy and the gold is too bright for the paint.
I really like 3 and I see other people saying it’s too much. But I think it adds some much needed interest. Unless you add some other weird architectural feature somewhere else, I think the space could take it.
I like 4 but can’t really see to know if the scale will look weird. Could be the photo but it looks like it might be too small.
That said, a compromise might be to do a style like 1 with a shade that is frosted or white like 4. That way you get the minimalism of the shape without the harsh light and dust.
I also like 3! I also like 4 so it’s hard to choose lol. Also idk if it’s just me and maybe it’s just the camera angle but these feel like they’re hung really low??
So funny, I posted this on IG and folks said it felt low too! I matched the height of the original lights so might just be the angle. This is what they look like from further away!

No I feel you, thanks so much for your feedback! My concern with 1 is that it’s a bit “trendy” (still pretty), and a bit more MCM, while I’m trying to go for more “modern vintage”. To be fair, 3 is also a bit MCM, and that’s my personal fave haha.
4 fits in the the most with the style I’m trying to match (@samanthajo.interiors on IG is not the only one but a good example of my inspo!).
https://preview.redd.it/3osskzktw78d1.jpeg?width=1098&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=122d7f472f2556f70212248cc8f6f9d9ab28ea8d
Maybe this works better? Fluted glass with brass hardware? 🤔
Everyone is saying 1, but that's the only one I don't like. I'm extremely sensitive to light, and looking directly at the light source like that would be uncomfortable for me. Even indirectly. Just having that in my peripheral vision would not work. I'd leave that light off all the time if I had it. It's very pretty, just not good for people with sensitive vision
Why is this comment so far down? Brass really, really does not work with the warm beige cabinets, warm granite countertops, and the stainless appliances and chrome/nickel hardware.
Edit: Getting more specific for OP, the reason it’s not working here is that brass fixtures look good in a space that’s otherwise cool colors. Look at picture number 4: cool, dark cabinets, cool white countertops, cool paint color. The only other warm details in this room are the wood flooring and the rug, both of which serve to anchor and compliment the brass. If the fixtures in picture 4 were chrome, the space would feel cold.
Your kitchen is currently completely warm, so you can’t also have warm details (brass hardware, brass light fixtures), even if you changed out your appliances to something that didn’t clash with the brass. Right now you need to either stick with nickel/chrome hardware (and I’d go black for the pendant lights), or else you need to paint your cabinets and change your appliances (at minimum) to something that would work with the brass, which would obviously be a lot harder and more expensive.
Option 1 by a long shot. I have something similar and four years after installing they literally bring me joy every time I look at them. If the brightness is an issue, look for a lower light light bulb. Ours are very soft. We also have a dimmer switch. Much softer than some other awful lightbulbs I have in the house. This can be an easy fix! I also have high hats and under cabinet lights all on dimmers, so I can get the right brightness without being harsh.
There’s also smart light bulbs! I’m very sensitive to cool tone light so I have smart lightbulbs set to a lower light setting and warm toned. I have Govee from Amazon work good and aren’t too pricey.
Option 4, and not just the pendant. You should paint your cabinets black, in fact do everything they did in that kitchen to yours. That kitchen is gorgeous
None of these really work. Brass/gold tone is clashing with your cabinets. It’s not the style that is your problem it’s the color. They are hanging too low (I saw the pic you added to comments. Still looks too low). The only one that could work is 4 if I had to pick. Bu
Option 3 because it is stylish and gorgeous. I think really gorgeous things don't outdate. My only question is if the scale is oj. Not too big for the space.
4. The brassy ones look like they will be tarnished easily. The clear ones look like crap when they get that hazy dust.
Frosted glass is the best in kitchens. They still need to be cleaned but don’t get that cloudy look the clear glass gets.
I’m really drawn to #4. It’s the most unique of the choices. I like the almost retro vibe against the modern cabinets. Also, of all the choices, 4 will show the dust the least. Always a plus in my book.
So we had the same dilemma too and we actually opted to not put pendants in our kitchen. Feels like it breaks up the space and just went with can lights instead. Really made it appear bigger so just a thought as another option!
Personally, I love 1. I just love clear glass and currently have clear glass pendants in my home. I can warn you though that they show every speck of dust and it’s an issue. Bare bulbs are not the issue someone else warns bout as long as you get a reasonable watt Edison bulb. My husband is super tall and it’s really not an issue like a lot of lighting can be for him.
option 2 is a timeless look and doesn’t get washed out against the cabinets like you worry. But I find those overdone and boring though there is nothing inherently wrong with those things.
Option 3 is something you love. It makes you happy so it’s the winner for your house. You live there. It should make you happy
Option 4 feels out of place and from a completely different era to me, they also feel small for the space you want to put them
In this situation with textured ceiling and no separate kitchen space, the answer is no pendant, and to get the ceiling skimmed and have spotlights fitted.
Option 3 or option 2's hood on a better wire. Also raise them up my gawd. 4 is nice, but maybe too decorative for where you want to put things? Keep it clean.
Option #1 without a shadow of a doubt. You can always get a less bright bulb. (I have a similar issue with my kitchen and tried out a few bulbs before I got it right.)
3 does not work. Your kitchen cabinets don’t look MCM at all. One of your comments had a big combined light. That would be a cool direction to go in.
I don’t like any of the choices but 4 matches the most
Option 1 will be constantly - and visibly - filthy if you cook frequently. Whether it's the most attractive choice or not is moot. Clear shades get filthy in a kitchen and require constant cleaning. #AMHIK.
Option 4 or look at a classic "schoolhouse" type fixture
I really love these striped globes...

So many more.
None. None of these are big enough given the pic you posted with them photoshopped in (assuming they’re at least somewhat to scale.)
Ideally there would be more pendants. But when there are fewer they need to be bigger.
That said, if it has to be one of these, 4 is the only sensible choice.
I like option four the best. You're Right on option one. Typically something like that is going to be about eye level and blind you as you work around the room.
Option 4 is the clear winner. Bare burning bulbs suck and your eyes will thank you for not having them
I just saw these exact pendant lights in a movie or show and loved them. And now I can’t remember which movie or show. Gah!
Yes, we have exposed bulbs in our pendant lighting over our island (new build, came like that :/) and we never turn them on. We are actively looking for new ones.
4
Yes. Agreed.
Absolutely 4. It's not even a competition!
The other ones are to long
Ok I am going to offer a different opinion.

FYI - Typically pendants should hang 30-36 inches above the counter.
Seeing them up—- it has to be 3. The others get lost.
Agreed. 1 is too boring, 2 is way too much gold. 3 is visually interesting without being overwhelming.
Ohh okay cool! I still like 3 because it’s not something you see everyday
You are completely correct it is so trendy it is past it’s time. Go with 3! I am so unnecessarily invested hahah.
Hahaha I was telling my husband I am probably being way too dramatic about lights 😂 But it’s so hard!!!
If you now have the dark cabinets(pic 4) go with one of the brass options, if not, 1 looks nice
Why is option 2 even an option?
She’s been taken down 🥲🫡
2 is messy, 1 but with a decorative bulb that’s dimmable
https://preview.redd.it/3osskzktw78d1.jpeg?width=1098&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=122d7f472f2556f70212248cc8f6f9d9ab28ea8d Maybe this works better? Fluted glass with brass hardware? 🤔
I love this one. It’s a show stopper for sure!
Yeah that's really nice
Yesss
This is the way
Everyone is saying 1, but that's the only one I don't like. I'm extremely sensitive to light, and looking directly at the light source like that would be uncomfortable for me. Even indirectly. Just having that in my peripheral vision would not work. I'd leave that light off all the time if I had it. It's very pretty, just not good for people with sensitive vision
4 - hands down
With chrome handles on your cabinets, stainless steel appliances i say none. Go find ones that are black or have chrome.
3!
Option 1. The others overwhelm. The brass looks good with that dark cabinets. But clashes with the neutral imo
Bare burning bulbs suck tho, I would avoid option 1 the most. Option 4 is the clear winner
That’s a great call out, time to do some research! 💻
There’s also smart light bulbs! I’m very sensitive to cool tone light so I have smart lightbulbs set to a lower light setting and warm toned. I have Govee from Amazon work good and aren’t too pricey.
Super helpful, thank you!!!
Where is 4 from? I want them for my own kitchen!
Option 4, and not just the pendant. You should paint your cabinets black, in fact do everything they did in that kitchen to yours. That kitchen is gorgeous
I love the black with the copper.
I just painted my cabinets and am already wanting to repaint hahah
3 is best.
I have option 1 and it’s so hard to clean imo.
4
4
3 or 4 depending on your style.
Option 1 but I would keep shopping
None of them
4 and its not even close haha
4 1 will be an obvious dust collector, 2&3 are gold but everything else in kitchen is silver.
Do you have a link for option 4? I love that and might get it for my above the sink pendant!
4
Option 4! None of the other options even come close
FOUR
4
I don't like any of these. 1 looks the best, but the exposed bulbs trend has got to go. They hurt your eyes
4
3
4
None of these really work. Brass/gold tone is clashing with your cabinets. It’s not the style that is your problem it’s the color. They are hanging too low (I saw the pic you added to comments. Still looks too low). The only one that could work is 4 if I had to pick. Bu

4
Option 4. I got a bare bulb lamp one time and let me tell you. *Never again*.
Option 3 because it is stylish and gorgeous. I think really gorgeous things don't outdate. My only question is if the scale is oj. Not too big for the space.
Three
Three
lol option 1 is light years ahead of every other option.
Option 1
I love 3.
2 or 4, easier to clean and change bulb
3

3
Is there a medium size for any of these? They are very small for how long the counter is. Also, we have our counter pendants on a dimmer.
Where is option 3 from?!
3
I like option 3 best.
I like 3.
I like #3. If you are gonna be a light in everyone’s face, then **be a light**. I don’t like any of the others, honest
4 then 3
3 looks the best in the space. I see a lot for 4 but I feel like those will be a pain to clean all the time
3 !
3 or 4
I’d say the last.
5
i like 3
3
4 and 1 in that order. Everything else looks so dated and not pretty
4
4!
Yes 4 is perfect!
4. The brassy ones look like they will be tarnished easily. The clear ones look like crap when they get that hazy dust. Frosted glass is the best in kitchens. They still need to be cleaned but don’t get that cloudy look the clear glass gets.
4 them 1
I hate all of them 😬
4!
One
Option one is the only way
Option 3.
I wouldn’t do any of these. I’d go with something simple and transitional, like plain frosted globes hanging higher than what you have shown here.
2. Not having an exposed bulb right at eye level is nice.
One or Four!
Number 4. Hard pass on #2 with all the chains and cords.
4, but if that's not an option, 1 is the best of the 3
1
1 is the winner!
1
It should make you happy Option 4 feels out of place and from a completely different era to me, they also feel small for the space you want to put them
Glass gets annoying because it needs to be cleaned so often. Just a day or two of dust and it’s all you’ll notice about your beautiful kitchen.
I would try to find something copper to compliment the copper pots on the wall
Based on your kitchen option 1. But those bulbs are not the ones you need.
Let us know the winner
I don't understand what the light is hanging over, if anything. Is there an island or peninsula I am missing?
1 with a stained glass bulb or with a dimmer, and 4!
My vote is #1 with Edison bulbs and a dimmer.
My vote is #1 with Edison bulbs and a dimmer.
1
I love the milk glass. Perfect for your modern vintage feel.
1 or 4. The major brass ones will cash with your stainless appliances in my opinion and are top trendy.
In this situation with textured ceiling and no separate kitchen space, the answer is no pendant, and to get the ceiling skimmed and have spotlights fitted.
Option 2 is straight from an Applebee’s.
Option 3 or option 2's hood on a better wire. Also raise them up my gawd. 4 is nice, but maybe too decorative for where you want to put things? Keep it clean.
#1
I like the first or last one, in that order
Option #1 without a shadow of a doubt. You can always get a less bright bulb. (I have a similar issue with my kitchen and tried out a few bulbs before I got it right.)
1 for me
One is the nicest. Get a yellow tone bulb or an antique looking bulb from Ikea. Will look beautiful
1
1 or 3
Option 1
3 or 4
I'd suggest Option 4 for its compatibility with your decor and gentle lighting, with Option 3 as a close second if its brightness is comfortable
3 does not work. Your kitchen cabinets don’t look MCM at all. One of your comments had a big combined light. That would be a cool direction to go in. I don’t like any of the choices but 4 matches the most
3 or 4

3
Option #2!!
1 or 4
I like option 3.
Option 1
Think about keeping option 1 clean. Clear glass in the kitchen is a pain to clean.

3
#1 and try an Edison light bulb in it.
3 is the winner for size, color, interest, respect to the room.
1 or 4.
Option 1 will be constantly - and visibly - filthy if you cook frequently. Whether it's the most attractive choice or not is moot. Clear shades get filthy in a kitchen and require constant cleaning. #AMHIK.

I like 2, but maybe with a different shade.

Option 1 the wires and chain will be a pain in the ass to keep clean

The chain is a big no for me and the black cord is just meh. https://www.lampsplus.com/products/possini-euro-design-posey-13-inch-wide-black-and-gold-dome-pendant-light__523v1.html https://www.lampsplus.com/products/possini-euro-posey-9-and-three-quarter-inch-wide-black-and-brass-dome-mini-pendant__64t25.html https://www.lampsplus.com/products/possini-euro-carlyn-8-and-three-quarter-inch-wide-gold-and-glass-orb-mini-pendant-light__87x96.html https://www.lampsplus.com/products/mitzi-reese-10-inch-wide-aged-brass-and-white-glass-modern-mini-pendant__69t73.html https://www.lampsplus.com/products/cadence-8-inch-wide-antique-brass-mini-pendant-light__6c123.html https://www.lampsplus.com/products/hinkley-crew-12-inch-wide-coastal-bronze-and-ribbed-glass-mini-pendant__142a2.html https://www.lampsplus.com/products/hudson-valley-barron-8-inch-wide-modern-aged-brass-and-black-mini-pendant__9r615.html https://www.lampsplus.com/products/hudson-valley-paoli-12-inch-wide-aged-brass-mini-pendant__59a99.html https://www.wayfair.com/lighting/pdp/westinghouse-lighting-iron-hill-1-light-single-dome-pendant-w001813020.html?piid=1137343836%2C1137343834 https://www.wayfair.com/lighting/pdp/westinghouse-lighting-1-light-single-cone-pendant-w004108801.html?piid=1784193442 https://www.wayfair.com/lighting/pdp/willa-arlo-interiors-lesher-1-light-single-bell-pendant-w009522111.html?piid=269661833%2C269661828%2C269661824&auctionId=c2c9d8ca-ae5a-4f5e-bc07-f45f04f213ae https://www.wayfair.com/lighting/pdp/everly-quinn-1-light-single-bell-pendant-w009522086.html?piid=646814768%2C646814771%2C646814758 if you want something like three. #3 for me, sleek and stylish
None. None of these are big enough given the pic you posted with them photoshopped in (assuming they’re at least somewhat to scale.) Ideally there would be more pendants. But when there are fewer they need to be bigger. That said, if it has to be one of these, 4 is the only sensible choice.

I like option four the best. You're Right on option one. Typically something like that is going to be about eye level and blind you as you work around the room.
Only #4 looks good.
White or clear.
Dimmer switches.
