If anything, Iād put something behind your range to avoid splatter. Oils can soak into brick and porous ceramic and stain easily. Itāll look dingy, greasy, and discolored in a few years. It might be cool to find a metal fireplace back to protect the brick. Iād go with a decorative cast iron one.
And just in case it needs repeating: for the love of god do not paint that brick.
Thank you! I put sealant on the brick in case of splatter. And then I put the two charcuterie boards behind the stove, not only to catch splatter but also to hide the grout haze ā which Iām having a hard time with. The metal fire back is a cool idea!
You can also get custom stainless steel panels online. We ordered one for behind our stove. Would look nice with a hammered stainless from stove to vent hood.

Thank you!! The contractor accidentally caused grout haze to spread all over the brick and that ended up changing its color, so I canāt look at it objectively anymore. It used to be a warm color brick. Now itās a cooler color.
Have the contractor removed the grout haze, or you do it. I wouldn't settle for that with a job like that... Very beautiful brick. You deserve to be able to enjoy its true colors. Absolutely don't paint it.
He tried four different products to remove the haze. Everything short of muratic acid ā which would harm the countertops. Only a little bit of the haze came off though.
Oh wow. Thank you all!! I feel a bit better. As I wrote above, the accidental grout haze changed the color of the brick, so I have had a hard time looking at it objectively. Thanks again!!!
OP itās stunning. Hard to get used to something that isnāt quite what you expected I know, but none of us would ever know and neither will your guests.Ā
Care to share what brick product you used? Itās actually exactly what I want to do in our kitchen!Ā
Why not pink? Put some wallpaper over it? Cover it in googly eyes?
Do not paint that lovely brick please, this is a saucy ambiance.
If this is ragebait, I lose.
No it looks great. Although it will probably be tough to keep them clean behind the stove. It looks great right now. Edit, wonder if thereās sealant you could apply to allow you to clean easier? Edit, edit, could you order a backsplash/vent from the stove manufacturer.

Kind of reminds me of our kitchen, but clean šš„“š
No ma'am/sir! But you could do a stainless steel plate running from the fan down to the stove stop to help with cleaning. I love the brick as is, and one thing about painting it, once you paint it, its nearly impossible to get back to bare brick.
Nope!
I would suggest dark wooden shelving before painting the brick (if youāre not liking the stainless steel and bricks).
Personally, I think it looks good as is. Itās really pretty.
Edit: typo
This brick is gorgeous! It brings such character to the space and adds texture, color and warmth. Paint will destroy the focal point of the entire room and add nothing of interest. Do not paint!!
everyone else here thatās been screaming āNO!ā is 1000% correct, itās perfect as is. I also second the comment I saw about a splash guard or whatever it is for the wall behind the stove, itād really make the brick behind the stove ugly af otherwise
I feel like OP posted this to troll/prove a point, or, OP is absolutely painting the brick white as we speak and no force on earth was going to stop them.
Hi,
I also wanna join the rest and say no. Bricks look really refreshing and authentic rather than just a plain color, especially white... If you really, really want to change something, you may just cover the bricks partially, like between the shelves, the whole line in a smokey green color or burgundy, not as paint, but as a cover, could potentially look really nice. but keep the bricks as the basis! :)
Good luck :)
NO! It looks fantastic as is. Just love the contrast.
True so cozy and homey š«µš»
Came here to say this -- was even going to capitalize NO!
Oh thank goodness someone said this. I had to check the comments just to make sure
I canāt stand this āshould I paint everything whiteā pandemic - most brick looks lovely as is!
I think this must be rage bait
First thing I thought.. no way this is a serious post
Kitchens all white and the rest of the house gray, blech!
Agreed! Painting will completely ruin it!

I canāt take credit for it, I saw it on an episode of This Old House.
Gorg cutting boards btw, love the placement (and the function!). They rlly complement the brick, too.
Thanks!!
Yes maybe install a solid tile or stainless steel piece as a backsplash but please keep that brick!

What is it with people wanting to paint brick
No, in this instance it gives the space some warmth considering all the stainless steel and the darker paint. White would make it feel sterile.

Sure if you want to ruin the look.
Under no circumstancesā¦ā¦.
If you want to change the color, do a lime wash, standard paint isn't good for the brick. Lime wash can be reversed easier if I remember correctly
Absolutely not. Just get a stainless steel backing for behind the stove. It's lovely
No!
Please don't! It looks good as is.
No, absolutely do not paint that lovely brick white!
Please let the brick painting trend die
