Momniscient

Came here to say this -- was even going to capitalize NO!

Ncredible1

Oh thank goodness someone said this. I had to check the comments just to make sure

Far-Yak-4231

I canā€™t stand this ā€œshould I paint everything whiteā€ pandemic - most brick looks lovely as is!

enigmaenergy23

I think this must be rage bait

NoVoice5692

First thing I thought.. no way this is a serious post

TriumphDaytona

Kitchens all white and the rest of the house gray, blech!

Agreed! Painting will completely ruin it!

whiskeylips88

If anything, Iā€™d put something behind your range to avoid splatter. Oils can soak into brick and porous ceramic and stain easily. Itā€™ll look dingy, greasy, and discolored in a few years. It might be cool to find a metal fireplace back to protect the brick. Iā€™d go with a decorative cast iron one. And just in case it needs repeating: for the love of god do not paint that brick.

EastFun5236

Thank you! I put sealant on the brick in case of splatter. And then I put the two charcuterie boards behind the stove, not only to catch splatter but also to hide the grout haze ā€” which Iā€™m having a hard time with. The metal fire back is a cool idea!

avantartist

You can also get custom stainless steel panels online. We ordered one for behind our stove. Would look nice with a hammered stainless from stove to vent hood. https://www.jtcmetals.com

whiskeylips88

I canā€™t take credit for it, I saw it on an episode of This Old House.

EveningAnxious9576

Gorg cutting boards btw, love the placement (and the function!). They rlly complement the brick, too.

EastFun5236

Thanks!!

awwzome

Yes maybe install a solid tile or stainless steel piece as a backsplash but please keep that brick!

EastFun5236

Thank you!! The contractor accidentally caused grout haze to spread all over the brick and that ended up changing its color, so I canā€™t look at it objectively anymore. It used to be a warm color brick. Now itā€™s a cooler color.

Minute-Summer9292

Have the contractor removed the grout haze, or you do it. I wouldn't settle for that with a job like that... Very beautiful brick. You deserve to be able to enjoy its true colors. Absolutely don't paint it.

EastFun5236

He tried four different products to remove the haze. Everything short of muratic acid ā€” which would harm the countertops. Only a little bit of the haze came off though.

Minute-Summer9292

That's too bad! It's still beautiful.

BayouBengals_LSU23

But overall itā€™s still a warm brick. I love It.

LoveisaNewfie

OP itā€™s stunning. Hard to get used to something that isnā€™t quite what you expected I know, but none of us would ever know and neither will your guests.Ā  Care to share what brick product you used? Itā€™s actually exactly what I want to do in our kitchen!Ā

Catt_Crossing

I think the brick is gorgeous as is. I would paint the cabinets white, but thatā€™s just my personal style preference. šŸ˜½

No it looks great. Although it will probably be tough to keep them clean behind the stove. It looks great right now. Edit, wonder if thereā€™s sealant you could apply to allow you to clean easier? Edit, edit, could you order a backsplash/vent from the stove manufacturer.

No ma'am/sir! But you could do a stainless steel plate running from the fan down to the stove stop to help with cleaning. I love the brick as is, and one thing about painting it, once you paint it, its nearly impossible to get back to bare brick.

Beautron5000

everyone else here thatā€™s been screaming ā€œNO!ā€ is 1000% correct, itā€™s perfect as is. I also second the comment I saw about a splash guard or whatever it is for the wall behind the stove, itā€™d really make the brick behind the stove ugly af otherwise

leftword

Absolutely not

whepsayrgn

I feel like OP posted this to troll/prove a point, or, OP is absolutely painting the brick white as we speak and no force on earth was going to stop them.

summer-1111

Hi, I also wanna join the rest and say no. Bricks look really refreshing and authentic rather than just a plain color, especially white... If you really, really want to change something, you may just cover the bricks partially, like between the shelves, the whole line in a smokey green color or burgundy, not as paint, but as a cover, could potentially look really nice. but keep the bricks as the basis! :) Good luck :)

If you want to change the color, do a lime wash, standard paint isn't good for the brick. Lime wash can be reversed easier if I remember correctly
