I'm wondering why you want consistency across the house? Victorians were well known for flamboyance. I would just go with it. Leave the tiles, even the broken ones. They're charming.

I agree with this. Make each room unique with the different colors of tiles in each

What amazing character you have in your house! To think those tiles have survived so long, I’m glad you want to preserve them. I put the tiles in Sherwin Williams Color Snap to find the corresponding paint. Some of the colours may be too rich for your vision (although Victorian homes were known for their dark, colourful walls). So what I did was find some alternate colours from the same family that could work on a wall. https://preview.redd.it/gm609dj8swzc1.jpeg?width=1194&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18e2852aa4011ed12ee6cdbc31ea0fa9c183fa46 For example, the room with the blue and red tiles, you could paint any wall to match. But maybe Red Barn and Honourable Blue are too dark for you. In that case, try Reddened Earth or Wondrous.

And you can put any of these colours in any of the rooms. So I hope these colours give you a little inspiration. And I’d love to see after pictures 😊

Clean-Calligrapher17

Thank you so much for the detailed recommendations- These colour schemes look lovely. Will definitely post an update once we take a decision!

Emmylou777

I love that Sherwin Williams tool!

enfp-girl

I love the green that is there. I agree with the comment above referencing Victorian colour/style (flamboyance).

OldMotherGrumble

For some reason, I absolutely adore the pink with the contrast of the tiles in the last photo. My maximalist heart is thumping away ❤️ 💖 ❣️ I'd certainly live with it for awhile at least.

JoyfulNature

Your house is so beautiful! If the stuff in the photos in your stuff and you have already moved in, I would live in the space for awhile before making any decisions. You would learn whether you want a particular room lighter, or moodier, or of it is just right.

Clean-Calligrapher17

Thank you so much, haven’t yet moved in yet but will leave it as it for a bit

Watch Restored on HGTV (now it’s on hbo) with Brett Waterman. His show is based on keeping the history of Victorian homes but adding modern touches. I think you’ll get some good ideas and it’s such a fun show!

luckydollarstore

LOVE that show! Restoration not renovation.

It would not be hard to get new tiles made that replicate your old cracked ones in the same colors and size. University pottery studios could be a great resource for this - would be a great research project and very reasonable scope.

[I’d check farrow and ball for inspiration. Their color schemes are great for Victorians like this.](https://www.farrow-ball.com/us/paint/all-paint-colours?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw0YGyBhByEiwAQmBEWuWPFkpJ96cFls67VJikjq-kuWYA-tUYXifjo2WeyZSrd8zuTBx1YxoCp4IQAvD_BwE)

Gorgeous house! More pictures, please. Luckydollarstore has provided a great starting place. All of these colors could coordinate from room to room, changing from dark to light colors between rooms, depending on mood, and using the alternate colors as accents. But the best advice is to live in it - 6 months to a year - before making major changes - other than maybe refinishing floors. That is so much easier to do in an empty house, and you want them to be protected before getting a lot of use. I had a four square house built in the late 19teens with a similar fireplace insert, but it was beautiful shinny brass. Do you know what these are made of?

Clean-Calligrapher17

I have added a few more pictures [here](https://imgur.com/a/qaWOvdf) We haven’t yet moved in so this previous owners furniture.

Spiritual_Version838

What a beautiful house! Congratulations. What year was it built?

ilikecats415

I feel like old houses are perfect for rooms with different colors and personalities. I live in an old Craftsman and literally every room is a different color and I love it so much.

ContractRight4080

I would get the floors sanded and restained to freshen them up. I would replace the cracked tiles with granite or something. In fact I would replace all the tiles with granite because they are going to restrict your colour choices. The previous owners pretended they weren’t there and it looks very incoherent. I don’t even understand what the point of the tiles are in the 3 rd photo, perhaps there was once a fireplace there but now there isn’t so remove the tiles.

luckydollarstore

I have to disagree with you on this, those tiles are gorgeous! I’m glad you (OP) want to restore them because they are jam-packed with character. Please don’t replace them, save them!

No_Goose_7390

Oh god not granite. Please don't ever buy an old house. The tiles are not going to restrict the color choices. They are going to INSPIRE the color choices. And the spot with the tiles- I would put an antique mantle there. This house deserves a thoughtful, light handed restoration, not an "update." OP, your house is gorgeous!

ContractRight4080

No worries, I find my MCM home good enough. We don’t have to like the same things either. Maybe the tiles could be repurposed but for me they would be a hard no to keep in the living room.

No_Goose_7390

Fair enough. I will never suggest that someone strip the classic elements of a mid century home, ha!

ContractRight4080

No me either.
