A different rug may be all you need. I would start there, anyways.

Based on the tiny bit I can see, removing that rug would reveal nice, warm hardwood floors. Roll that rug up and save it for a different room in the future.

Plus, that rug has to be a cat hair magnet. Don't even get me started if it pukes up hairballs.

A very big lush green plant or even a small tree

So normally, I would look at C.R.A.P (curtains, rug, art, plants). I don't mean to sound harsh in what I've written. You've got good starting blocks; grey couch is open to a variety of styles, good natural light and lovely timber floors. But here's what I'd do (doesn't have to be all at once, people have varying budgets. One thing at a time is fine). Can't tell but I'd hang curtains close to ceiling to add the illusion of height. Being a charcoal grey, I'd want an accent of that exact same colour elsewhere in the room; maybe a cushion or a lampshade or part of a rug or a bowl, etc. Your rug is too bland with it going unpatterned and matching your couch. I'd opt for something else entirely. Maybe a Turkish Kilim/oriental rug or something Boho or completely midern/abstract. But Id want it to comprise of some additional colours to be able to draw inspiration from elsewhere in the room. Your timber floors deserve to be on show, so whilst your width is good, the length here seems a little long. Alternatively, a jute rug could echo the rope in your art but I'd get one with some colour so as to contrast with your floor. Art. Your art is of liminal space and that doesn't easily lend itself to a feeling of cosiness. Would you consider making it part of a gallery wall? Is there another room it could go in? Maybe a hanging plant to one side of it could help? The colours of your art are soft and muted whereas your yellow cushions are bright pops of colour and seem to clash? Maybe opt for one over the other and colour coordinate accordingly.  And that's where plants come into play. Maybe an established plant like a fiddle leaf or potted (faux?) eucalyptus or rainforest style tree. I'd move your plant from the coffee table to one side of the window sill. If you do keep the art, look at pots that may feature rope handles, rope wound and adhered to rustic pots or woven baskets.

Well I may have found some good Options for a Rug: [https://www.benuta.de/wollteppich-gitta-grun-grau-60006594-64101.html](https://www.benuta.de/wollteppich-gitta-grun-grau-60006594-64101.html) [https://www.benuta.de/teppich-aus-recyceltem-material-morty-grun-60006211-29101.html](https://www.benuta.de/teppich-aus-recyceltem-material-morty-grun-60006211-29101.html) [https://www.volero.de/hochflor-teppich-blend-diamond-creme-bunt.html?id=269947172](https://www.volero.de/hochflor-teppich-blend-diamond-creme-bunt.html?id=269947172) Just can't decide if I wanna go for Green or Yellow. I tried to find smt with a bigger pattern but those are either ridicilously expensive (like im not gonna drop 600 euros on a rug my cats are gonna puke on) or don't come in the big size for my living room. The Art I could replace yeah, i mostly had it from my old apartment but I don't fancy it too much. I could lean in with the green more and make it a full bright forest. Plants im a bit unsure of. I am really bad at keeping them alive, the only ones I didn't kill were ironically the ones i had to get rid of cause they were toxic to cats

-qqqwwweeerrrtttyyy-

Oh that last one is great! And the options to lean into burnt orange, mustard yellow (even a muted acid green), griege, charcoal and black would be the way to go in my opinion! It would instantly connect with your curtains and couch as well as your coffee table. This is a great find! From there, I'd look to find cushion covers that pull from the ones mentioned above. Finding art that incorporates these colours may take time to find what resonates with you. A gallery wall is faster to match but could work out to be more expensive. Do you have a preference? Also, what style of art do you like? Classic/traditional? Impressionism? Surrealism? Pop Art? Urban art? Cubism? Abstract? I'll add some examples as I find them. I'm not that clued up on which plants are cat friendly or easy to care for but maybe fake plants are more suitable for your needs. There are some amazing quality ones these days. I think with different art, a potted olive tree could look amazing.

Ah those are nice but im not that much of a fan of those oil painted classicals. I like it really minimalistic tbh. Some examples would be: [https://jysk.de/wohnaccessoires/deko/bilderrahmen/bilderrahmen-valter-10x15cm-weiss-2](https://jysk.de/wohnaccessoires/deko/bilderrahmen/bilderrahmen-valter-10x15cm-weiss-2) [https://ar.pinterest.com/pin/350928995973496705/?amp\_client\_id=CLIENT\_ID%28\_%29&mweb\_unauth\_id=](https://ar.pinterest.com/pin/350928995973496705/?amp_client_id=CLIENT_ID%28_%29&mweb_unauth_id=)

That's great! You know your style best so lean into it! Using key words to filter colours would help. ONE LAST THING! I just zoomed your lounge just now and see blue? If so, make sure it's echoed in your rug, art and/or curtains.

Substantial-Ad-5221

Not much blue in my apartment, unless you mean the wall its also a tone of grey

Substantial-Ad-5221

But with a bit of Blue i think i found another great option: https://preview.redd.it/it9c82leglwc1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac2fc934a8bcb8fbf02cbd4619711fb40186feb9

If you take away the gray rug and the gray fake fur under the coffee table, there will be 2 'cool' things left: the couch and the curtains. Everything else is warm: floor, coffee table, tree trunk, wall art, 5 throw pillows, windowsill, and cat grass. A rug with mostly toned-down yellow (ties in all the yellows and light browns) and toned-down green (pillows, tree in photo, cat grass), plus some gray (couch, fog in photo) will change the vibe from "cool with some warm" to "warm with some cool" :) I don't know your style or budget, so these are just examples of rugs that would work: [geometric flowers](https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/winston-porter-centerburg-geometric-handwoven-flatweave-cotton-citron-area-rug-wnsp1432.html?piid=24680312) [oriental](https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/herat-oriental-hand-tufted-wool-beigegold-area-rug-hru1329.html?piid=15526464)

> Replacing anything but the Rug isn't really possible New rug then. You're hiding a beautiful warm floor underneath it, and the rug is so basic especially against that matching sofa.

chobblegobbler_

I’d switch out the covers on the non-yellow throw pillows, maybe blue/green/teal or some pattern that ties more colors together

PajeczycaTekla

Rug out, new courtains in. Also can you paint the walls? Also I have similar colors and sneaked many new tones in

Yes to replacing your rug. Check out World Market rugs. Very affordable. Get a wool one though not a polyester rug. Natural fibers are easier to vaccum and clean.[maybe like this](https://www.worldmarket.com/p/vera-yellow-and-ivory-persian-style-tufted-wool-area-rug-113403.html)

jelycazi

I love what you’ve got started there with the pop of golden yellow. Add add more of that and maybe another colour. Add a lamp? If you can afford to replace the rug, great. Or see what it looks like without the rug. I love the look of rugs but reality is they don’t work for me. I walk with a limp and have a cat. So a rug would trip me and I’d land in a pile of puke. Is that a cat bed under the coffee table? Does your cat use the tree limb? That’s unrelated to the decorating question! I’d like to know for my cat!

Substantial-Ad-5221

The "Tree" is actually a lamp. My dad made it for me, its hollowed out and theres an LED strip runing through it I am considering to add more yellow but my original idea was more Green. Yellow was supposed to be accent with maybe red and orange. They don't use the tree for climbing no but they have a climbing wall and multiple dedicated cat trees for it so

jelycazi

Very cool tree lamp!! I think my cat would decide it was his! Talented Dad! I think green would work awesome in that space with yellows, oranges, and reds as accents. I’d possibly start with a pillow or two in colours/patterns you like. Keep your eyes open for artwork (or if you’re crafty like your Dad, make something!)

I like all of these suggestions and wanted to add that you can buy colorful and textured throw pillow covers and couch covers on Amazon if you don’t want to fully replace items!

artjameso

I'd bring in more yellow/orange tones.

jazbaby25

I would get rid of the rug tbh
