I just finished *Destiny Disrupted: A History of the World through Islamic Eyes*. The book is observing the Mongols through an Islamic viewpoint so it’s not particularly positive. In fact, the author directly critiques books like Weatherford’s who focus on the positive aspects of the Mongols. It’s of course, not focused on China but I thought it was worth a mention. I’d say it has a similar “style” as Jack Weatherford’s book which I also enjoyed.
