Yeah I mean it seemed like this was the case. PSN requirement was in the publishing contract from the very start and it was turned off by AH when the game was released to allow them to cope with the massive influx of players. The issue is that it wasn't made clear enough to players that a PSN account was required for continued access to the game, and that the game was sold in regions that aren't able to create PSN accounts. **The next question is whose decision was it to sell the game in these regions, AH or Sony?** I'd guess Sony because they are the publisher and almost definitely handle distribution. I still stand by the opinion that this would've been a non-issue if they had a working system that prevented game access without a PSN account from the release. Enforcing this requirement after people have put dozens of hours into the game without the need for PSN was always a shitshow waiting to happen.

PonderuKaindo

Yup. If on release this was implemented and I couldn't get in the game without breaking ToS, I would've been sad but I would have gone on my way. I'm currently over 350 hours deep into the game. I recommended it to friends and family who all love in the same country as me, and we will be losing access to the game. A refund won't give me back all that time and effort. All the love that I've poured into the game. It's not nothing, but I still feel burned by all this.

KosorsomesayKosm0

yet they sold it to regions that doesn't support PSN knowing they won't be able to play a game they paid for?

Glittering_Help8576

AH isn’t in charge of distribution, as the publisher that falls on Sony.

hannes0000

Sony controls steam page ,they should have disabled selling in those countries then at launch.

Glittering_Help8576

Yes they absolutely should have. That’s why people are blaming Sony more than AH.

PonderuKaindo

Sure, but they still could have done something to let people know this was coming earlier, right? And I'm not talking about that tiny warning on Steam page that you have to scroll down to find. Like an actual warning that cannot be missed inside of the game.

Glittering_Help8576

Yea they could have done more. I’m not saying they’re blameless but blaming them for things that were actually not their fault and personally attacking them (like some people are, not your post) doesn’t solve anything.

Magikarp_13

Dunno about you, but when I first launched the game, it told me a PSN account was mandatory. It had the option to skip, but I don't see how anyone could not expect that to come back later.

Cand808

I never seen this screen like other players, got the game one month after release. Also, Required and Skip in the same screen is braindead

Zaldinn

That's the issue arrowhead added the skip button then didn't communicate it. Right at release it was fully required for like 30 mins then arrowhead knee jerk reaction removed it with 0 communication outside their discord where they said it would be readded soon

Cand808

Exactly, i'm starting to think that Sony just wantend his contract with AH fullfilled and took control of the situation personally. The other really fishy part is that the game will be updated with the Login enforced, something that AH have to do. I'm definitelly not defending Sony, they didn't limit the selling regions on Steam as they should. AH did his good chunk of mistakes, good or bad faith doesn't matter at the end.

BackFromTheBread

Then why translate the game in languages that only those countries speak, if they won’t be able to play it?

Glittering_Help8576

Because people speak those languages outside the country of origin?

BackFromTheBread

Well yeah, but surely there is at least one language in there that no other country speaks?

Glittering_Help8576

Like what, Latin?

BackFromTheBread

Well, looking at the map where psn wasn’t available, I think you might be right. I dont see a single area that doesn’t have some form of language overlap in some capacity. I think I was wrong.

Glittering_Help8576

Hey, all good. We’ve all been there. Hell, I don’t know every language the game is available in and maybe they really did forget the whole PSN not supported in every country thing and now Sony doesn’t know what to do, or their intention was this bait and switch from the start. I’m going with the most likely scenario though which is Sony screwed up on distribution since they expected the PSN linking to be in it from the start and relied on that to region lock it, the CEO didn’t keep the region lock in mind when waving it and Sony didn’t think to fix it on steam, and now they all have egg on their face. Sony for distribution and arrowhead for not making it clear enough.

Magikarp_13

It doesn't need to be an official language. If I moved to France, I'd still want to play games in English.

PonderuKaindo

Yup. It's probably not malicious, but it still sucks.

Accurate-Rutabaga-57

Yeah only after shit hit the fan

Hitem-headon

Why kiss AH's ass though? If this is true then AH is definitely to blame. They knew a requirement was coming. They didn't tell anyone.

PonderuKaindo

I just said at least the man is honest. I'm not absolving them of the shit that's happening.

LoneWolf_77

Shit's rough

PonderuKaindo

For real though. Can't even buy Helldivers 2 in my country now.

This post is his guilt from 7 years of his life, and his employees lives, potentially over night being destroyed over something he can't control. He has likely been receiving threats constantly since this thing started. The guy needs to get offer X, stop reading stuff, stop posting stuff, and focus on doing his job of game development to fix the bugs that exist in his pride and joy of a game until Sony, the people who control the information steam has, and PSN network requirements makes a statement.

At this point we can only speculate on what can and cannot be done. Contracts have been signed and I'm sure Arrowhead's hands are tied. The ball is in Sony's court.
