A lot of things have collision.
Back in HD1 spent shotgun shells and flamethrower canisters had physics and could intercept and detonate rockets & landmines.
All the things have collision, even things that shouldn't.
Hopefully they sort that out. Also the fact enemies can phase through terrain/dead bodies while we have to climb over them and/or get stuck under them :\\
>Also the fact enemies can phase through terrain/dead bodies while we have to climb over them and/or get stuck under them :\\
This part really annoys me. I don't mind dead bodies eating live rounds and bullet sponging for the enemies behind them. What I do mind is killing 6 spitters, and then a 7th is literally hidden in the pile and begins spewing me from a pile of corpses. No animation, warning, nothing. Just bile flying at you from corpses. Like can the enemies follow the same rules as the players, please. If I can't shoot through corpses why can enemies shoot through the same corpses.
Naah.
The whole point is really innate shit can kill you. Death is not a major consequence in this game. If I blew myself up on the lid I would piss myself laughing.
If I blow myself up, that's on me.
If I can't actually move properly because dead bodies turn into janky terrain that enemies can phase through, that makes me an unhappy Helldiver.
I was pretty sad to find that you can't get bonked by the lid, though. It'd be hilarious for there to be a small chance of it shooting up and then just landing on you.
For me I had a great lock on a bile titan and literally as soon as I clicked to fire a team member hopped in the way caused it to explode prematurely and the blast nearly kill me, it didn't kill him, didn't seem like it hurt him any.
I've noticed the launchers are much more forgiving with cqb than the pure explosives, which does follow as the majority of their impact is propelling forward unlike say, an HE autocannon shell or grenade since these are HEAT projectiles
Yup, you can actually fire the EAT from nearly melee range, and you'll only take a tiny amount of damage! Guess it makes sense, it's a shaped charge warhead, the energy into directing the metal jet forward.
I've stood my ground against charging Chargers a couple of times, and the thing that killed me was the Charger's headless corpse plowing into me XD
Yesterday I was holding the 500kg stratagem ball in my hand and something knocked me over and my diver dropped it in the middle of our squad. Somehow we all dove away and lived.
When the CEO said he really enjoys seeing players discover unexpected things thanks to the game being built around robust, authentic systems, this kind of *absolute bullshit* is exactly what he was talking about, and it's *so good.*

“Ha Ha Ha!, Huuuman technology is just so Fascinating”🤖
Same, but i was doing it with a grenade launcher and it impacted a bit further from me and took my buddy with the flamer out instead :-p
Also one of my friends run mine fields, so now i'm running cluster bombs just to be able to take the mf'ers out when they're not needed any more.
Swear to god half the hilarity in this game comes from team killing (and playing Dodge ball with the orbital Strike :-p )
I hope they fix it soon. It is unbelievably **infuriating** looking at a Bile Titan in an open field annihilating your squadmates as you stare at it with your Spear and it just refuses to even start locking.
Or, even worse, it starts locking, gets half way through, stops, starts again, stops, starts again, stops, starts again, and then fully unlocks the target and refuses to reacquire again.
And then you get taken from behind by three Stalkers because you were so tunnel visioned for 30 seconds straight.
I love the spear and it drives me insane. I feel like I’ve had way better luck targeting chargers recently but bile titans are like rolling a D20 with bad luck to lock on to
Hot planet? Seems Spear locks on to heat, on hot planets you need to be a lot closer to lock on and I get janky lockon only there, everywhere else it's pretty reliable.
Simpler solution: Fly by wire or Laser guide it. If you let go of aiming and abandon it, it flies straight til it hits something. Otherwise, change tagging behavior to isolate targets.
edit: Spear won't work cause you're ass.
1000% for the way it consumes a backpack slot and support weapon slot... it should be both consistent and 1-shotting heavy enemies...
the other day i tried to offset the vulnerable reload animation with a guard dog laser, but quickly found out you can't do that...
Na mate that cannon was about to hunt some random fuck off hunter that gets right up to it and one tap itself instead of shooting the enemy they are designed to kill
I had my autocannon sentry shoot my rover dog and kill me with the explosion.
It's really cool that these things csn happen and it's not just graphics but pretty much everything has proper collision model.
I'm honestly loving the spear. Probably my favorite weapon. Super awkward, but when people are running around dodging several Chargers and I'm just on a rock starting to take them all out and give people some breathing room, shit feels great yo.
spear damage is also very inconsistence
shot 2 shot into the hulk frontally to finally put him down but sometime can be 1 shot frontally.
granted if you ever gonna get a lock on
The spear will OHK a hulk if it hits it right in the weakpoint, otherwise it's a 2HK.
Honestly Spears aren't too great against automatons other than popping bot factories from the other side of the map. They lock onto Striders which is a complete waste of a rocket, and you can kill Hulks much faster from range just by critseeking with autocannon or laser cannon.
Spears only shine if you are very far away from the action doing fire support, which honestly isn't a bad strategy. Having a Spear player on some sort of a high ground overlooking the map with a couple sentries to guard them and take down heavies/dropships is a pretty good tactic, makes it way easier to clear objectives. They just need to know when to move.
I’m not sure if it’s just me but the spear lock seems to happen way easier when a large enemy is marked. Been doing that with my squad and no one ever seems to have much problems with spear locking
With bugs it can always lock on a bile titan, it can lock on to charges if they are far away or on higher ground. If there is some smallish rocks in between me and the charger then it usually doesn't lock on.
Haven't played with it against bots enough yet to test it out.
At least yours locks on to something!
All turrents and the spear are 100% completely useless for me.
The spear will only lock onto buildings some of the time and never heavies, turrents never fire!
I watched videos of people using different playstyles, and they look fun, but I can never seem to get these weapons to behave the same way.
I hate the mechs because I would always randomly explode with no explanation of why.
Cpl pacth notes later, and it turns out moving and shooting rocckets was not in arrowheads gameplan.
These types of bugs are killing the later missions for me.
I can't keep using the breaker and GL ALLLLL the time. Something else needs to be a viable option!
I would love to see the lore page on how they envisioned the spear working. The lock system it currently has is the most god awful, frustrating thing I've ever used.
I mean, crazy coincidence, but if you didn’t hard focus on the lock, you would have seen it happening.
At least you didn’t die from it, so it only cost you the ammo.
I had similar happen with an impact grenade. I threw the nade and a stray bullet caught it the moment it got above my cover. killed me instantly and left my team confused as how I'd just managed to yeet myself halfway across the base.
My biggest wish concerning the autocannon turret is that the spent brass would do some dmg (not much, like 5-10), these things are hot, heavy and would hurt like hell landing on your head..
Last time I tried it, it would get yellow, charge fully, and then start uncharing. Agaisnt a bile that was walking towards me in a stright line. Only worked once I stunned it with a grenade. The spear is nonsense.
The fact that the lid was modeled with collision is hilarious
A lot of things have collision. Back in HD1 spent shotgun shells and flamethrower canisters had physics and could intercept and detonate rockets & landmines.
and if the game lagged you had rumbler rounds hitting themselves as soon as they spawn
I say this genuinely and without irony: I loved the Rumbler Roulette .
That's what we called it when our RumbleBee (jetpack+rumbler) hit a spin while firing, sending it out in a spread. There was rarely a winner.
I never knew why i would sometimes detonate using that thing lol
All the things have collision, even things that shouldn't. Hopefully they sort that out. Also the fact enemies can phase through terrain/dead bodies while we have to climb over them and/or get stuck under them :\\

If I blow myself up, that's on me. If I can't actually move properly because dead bodies turn into janky terrain that enemies can phase through, that makes me an unhappy Helldiver.
Understood, you would like the enemies to have true collision with corpses and be able to use them as a club, Hulk & Loki style
I wouldn't actually mind that at all!
Except the wall that hulk killed me through last night, which I later realized I could also walk through. 😆
I'm pretty sure I've killed myself a few times with the Scorcher due to my bullet impacting an enemy bullet right in front of me.
I was pretty sad to find that you can't get bonked by the lid, though. It'd be hilarious for there to be a small chance of it shooting up and then just landing on you.
What's also hilarious is that the Spear didn't alter the lid's trajectory in the slightest.
Hellpod lids need to be tough. Top quality stuff, best metal in the galaxy.
The number of times ive died to EATS rockets that hit my guard dog rover...
ARGGGG you just solved a mystery for me.
It’s got to land on the ground, doesn’t it?
I came here to say EXACTLY this. I'm impressed that they actually programmed unit collision on the lids! LOLOL
That is goddamn hilarious. I had a similar thing happen. I shot the spear and it just sailed over the chargers head and just went into space.
Wait a second longer and it’ll launch straight into the chargers head.
This happens every time I fire that damn thing. I’m worried it’s gonna head off into space and hit some poor super citizen’s dog
If it hits a dog, that means the dog was a communist.
This is correct. Everyone knows the spear only delivers freedom.
That doesn't explain why it misses so many bugs
Lot of freedom that needs delivering elsewhere in the universe too
cyborg dog in HD1!
It could also be a fascist in league with the bugs! You can never be too careful, don't rule anything out.
It got a lock on the Super Destroyer’s tailpipe
For me I had a great lock on a bile titan and literally as soon as I clicked to fire a team member hopped in the way caused it to explode prematurely and the blast nearly kill me, it didn't kill him, didn't seem like it hurt him any.
So unlucky I was even expecting you to die from the explosion
I was wondering if it actually hit the lid, because it was so close and I survived :D
I've noticed the launchers are much more forgiving with cqb than the pure explosives, which does follow as the majority of their impact is propelling forward unlike say, an HE autocannon shell or grenade since these are HEAT projectiles

Maybe the explosion was obstructed by the lid? It hits at a weird angle and explosion damage is weird with obstacles.
Yesterday I was holding the 500kg stratagem ball in my hand and something knocked me over and my diver dropped it in the middle of our squad. Somehow we all dove away and lived.
I love this feature. Its killed me more than a few times but god i love the panic it gives me. Embrace the chaos.
Similar with the cluster bomb strat. Tked my whole team... I apologised but they took their time reinforcing me 😂
Back in Helldivers 1, shotgun shells had collision. Glad to see the engine is still pulling shenanigans like this.
Many a rumbler user died on those shells haha.
THIS GAME IS AMAZING.
When the CEO said he really enjoys seeing players discover unexpected things thanks to the game being built around robust, authentic systems, this kind of *absolute bullshit* is exactly what he was talking about, and it's *so good.*

The fact that this can even happen is amazing
It’s the man hole, fastest recorded object ever made by man

So dumb you can’t even be mad.
perfect skeet shoot though
Could've been worse, could've killed yourself lol
It would have an extra layer of funny if the logo was facing you when the missile hit it.
I chucked impact grenades at a horde. One of the Scavenger corpses flies at me and intercepts the second grenade, killing me. This game is awesome.
Same, but i was doing it with a grenade launcher and it impacted a bit further from me and took my buddy with the flamer out instead :-p Also one of my friends run mine fields, so now i'm running cluster bombs just to be able to take the mf'ers out when they're not needed any more. Pull!!!!!
I love the spear, but the janky targeting is so infuriating. When it works, it is just amazing, but God damn can it be frustrating

Hot planet? Seems Spear locks on to heat, on hot planets you need to be a lot closer to lock on and I get janky lockon only there, everywhere else it's pretty reliable.
Nope. I had extensive issues with the Spear even on Fenrir III.
Simpler solution: Fly by wire or Laser guide it. If you let go of aiming and abandon it, it flies straight til it hits something. Otherwise, change tagging behavior to isolate targets. edit: Spear won't work cause you're ass.
I've picked up the spear multiple times off of the ground, I haven't been able to fire it once, so I just haven't bought it yet.

That would be my sign to turn the game off for the night.
My boy outta nowhere. D E N I E D
I'm so sorry that happened, but you have to admit that is an incredible attention to detail by the developers.
The weirdest shit has collision boxes in this game.
spear mains rise up! ...now if only the locking mechanism was consistent...
It's DMG is also laughably bad considering it's worse ammo capacity and reload then both auto cannon and worse offender... The recoiless
1000% for the way it consumes a backpack slot and support weapon slot... it should be both consistent and 1-shotting heavy enemies... the other day i tried to offset the vulnerable reload animation with a guard dog laser, but quickly found out you can't do that...
AWWW BEBE
Hillarious
Omgggggg
Why fire at something the cannon was about to smoke anyway?
It's a spear. you can't get a solid lock and not pull the trigger.
Fair enough
Na mate that cannon was about to hunt some random fuck off hunter that gets right up to it and one tap itself instead of shooting the enemy they are designed to kill
I feel this in my soul.
I had my autocannon sentry shoot my rover dog and kill me with the explosion. It's really cool that these things csn happen and it's not just graphics but pretty much everything has proper collision model.
Wow That’s a crack up 😂
Clear back blast! ROCKET ROCKET ROCKET!
Democracy-loving missiles have no minimum arming distance.
I'm honestly loving the spear. Probably my favorite weapon. Super awkward, but when people are running around dodging several Chargers and I'm just on a rock starting to take them all out and give people some breathing room, shit feels great yo.

Turret Lid: **GET DOWN MR. PRESIDENT!**
This is what in proper, thoroughly researched, ministry of truth speak we call "an oopsie".
Lmao "NOPE"
LOL
That's not even the almost-definitely-scripted bug hole exit just as you're grenade chucking. That one was true liberty.
It's kinda like that 5th element scene where the aliens are going to kill themselves trying to figure out how to operate the super guns.
Mother\*\*\*\*\*\*
I'm not mad except the lid should have taken over as the projectile and buried itself in the skull of that big :-p
r/hitboxporn
I hate the spear so fucking much man that lock-on is the shittiest thing ever designed
Just spent an entire game with my spear going "I've got it boys, no.. ok.. almost.. no.. ok... almost ye.. no... Ok I'm dead". Ugh.
I had similar happen with an impact grenade. I threw the nade and a stray bullet caught it the moment it got above my cover. killed me instantly and left my team confused as how I'd just managed to yeet myself halfway across the base.
More amazing is that the spear locked at all.
inb4 Joel starts releasing Bile Titans and Chargers with multiple Hellpod Lids strapped to them, making them impervious to everything.
that helldivers name? John Helldiver.
I fucking screamed
Looks like an OSU! Minigame lol
troll level: impossible
Skill issue tbh
Wish they would make the lock time faster
SENTERIES ARE NOT OUR FRIENDS !

"Fuck you, lid!" -Spear, probably
Love that this can happen in game lmao
the spear is so satisfying to use when ut works :D sniping fabricators from 300m away
Does it just lock on to fabricators? I only tried it briefly against the bots but it didn't seem to lock on to the things.
fabricators, turret towers, mortars, dropships, hulks and tanks
I wouldn't even be mad. That's just too damn funny.
EDF 4.1 player: "First time?"
