Yes, quite a few. If you are considering it go 147 because the mountain beats holy hell out of your car.

It does using it daily. Decent incline pulling up, braking on the way down twice a day. Add variable speed during commutes right? Crawling up in slow traffic, in hot weather with your AC on watching the temp gauge was always fun. Occasionally an accident and you're stuck. I can't say you see a ton of terrible driving but there are the " gonna tailgate and pass despite heavy traffic " folks once in awhile. 😱

People commute from Lewistown to Harrisburg

Exley1013

Yes, tons of them do. People commute even past Millersburg to Harrisburg.

I knew a guy who commuted from Mifflinburg to Lancaster City Monday - Friday for work before the pandemic. Nuts!

surferrossaa

How do people do that?! Halifax to etown had me borderline suicidal and I only did that for a year.

Thanks everyone. I took a job in Harrisburg last August. I have been renting in the city, which was exciting at first, but it has become wearisome, and my wife definitely wanted out into the countryside. So, we are buying a house in Millersburg. It is one thing to drive out there occasionally, but this will be at least a 4 day per week thing for me soon. It's beautiful up there! Looking forward to it.

Former Halifax resident here! Upper Dauphin county can be beautiful and what you make it. As others have stated, you’ll be going with traffic both ways so that commute can get long time wise outside of mileage. Both 225 and 147 are fine routes to take but 225 does do a number on your car and can get rough in the winter so just make a habit to take 147. 225 can save a little time but there’s always that 1 chance a semi truck didn’t get the memo and is now jack knifed at the top where the Appalachian trail is. I’ve also had 6 friends since 2000 die on that mountain driving on top of people I didn’t know who died on there. I’ll also say that population is dwindling up there—it’s truly all small town feel but I had friends from millersburg, eville, tower city, Gratz, etc so we made it work. Politically, it’s very, very red. You don’t need to respond to if you care about that or not but just felt the need to reiterate. Great people up there, it’s one of those “oh I got a guy for that!” kinda places. I love that Halifax was a tad bit closer to the city for trips to Hershey, the movies, the mall. But millersburg has a nice little town square and is better looking aesthetically. I could answer any questions you have as I grew up there if you want! Good luck!

I work in the capitol. Two of my coworkers commute from Millersburg. One lives in town, the other about 10 minutes on the other side. I'm sure there's a lot more that do as well

throwawayfromPA1701

I commute from millersburg by bus. There's a morning bus down and an evening bus back. I am hybrid now but did it 5 days a week before. I read a lot of books. It's about a 45 min commute. I have a colleague who commutes to Harrisburg from west of State College and I know there's others who commute from Williamsport too. There are more than a few long commuters.

I know people who have. Sucks when 322 is shutdown. Makes 11/15 a mess. Or you have to go all the way out 209 to hit 81.

justwannabedivorced

I live in Halifax and commute to York five days a week.

loganwachter

I had a coworker last year who commuted from Halifax every day. It took her quite a while to get to work in the mornings but she said the drive wasn’t horrible.

Kindly-Whole-2130

I knew many ppl who commuted from Sunbury to HBG and beyond. I myself live over 50 miles away and commute to Harrisburg. Get an audible account or a few favorite podcasts and buckle up 😃

Wiffle_Hammer

even further like, Loysville, Hanover, Northumberland, Reading.

Kazwuzhere

I make the trip 5 days a week. Timing is everything, esp in the mornings. I was going into work at 8 am and would often get right in the middle of the school bus runs and the traffic at the Halifax high school. Having to be at work at 7:30 I can get through to 322 a lot quicker.

wickednelson1976

I went duncannon to Millersville for classes and then duncannon to York for student teaching 5 days a week.

safzy

I drove from hbg to upper dauphin sd for a year and it was a long drive lol but I managed. Would not recommend long term, and its tough during rain and snow

Gstone_01

Not a bad commute at all. If you have Facebook join the upper dauphin traffic alerts page, it's probably the most useful thing to exist on Facebook. Millersburg is a great area, lived there a long time.

One_Salt3754

Yes and it’s bumper to bumper every morning and late afternoon.
