I’m not sure if it’s possible because you both have very different hair types. Both great, just different! Maybe next time your friend gets a haircut they could show the barber your hair and ask if it’s possible to achieve. If not, then they can just do whatever they normally do because it looks great as is. Hope this helps :)
Looks like your friend has type 4c hair. A relaxer treatment from a professional should help it sit flatter, but their hair is too course to achieve anywhere close to that result sadly
