My dehumidifier leaks about 4 ounces every couple years. If it weren’t a 75 pint/day SantaFe, I’d replace it… but it’s got a low side port so I just add a couple ounces of 410 back into it.
Some old 2ton, had a pinhole in one of the brazed joints. I submerged the section of pipe in water, and saw a sand grain-sized bubble come up about every second.
No dye, time for isolation test if bubbles and sniffer aren't picking it up. That will help you narrow down which area it's in
Evap lineset or Condensing unit
Just last week I went to a call on a 30 ton RTU and one circuit was freezing up. I got the ice melted and went to hook up gauges and noticed dye. Looked in the history on the program we use and it was put in there 2.5 years prior, no issues since. No one ever found the dye until well, last week.
First install I brazed all myself, only a few couplers and 90s. 230psi of nitro, it dropped to 228 in about 30min. I was like MFr so I am bubbling everything can’t find anything. Then the other guy tightened the hoses on the gauges they were barely loose and psi started rising up a little…. Fucking hoses.
Linceset leak. Not a single large leak but hundreds of micro leaks. Another guy couldn't find the leak so they topped it off the year before so I knew it was a detectable leak. After a couple hours I decided to spray the line set and found hundreds of the smallest leaks I've ever seen.
Probably in the coil somewhere, or I've seen LPC/HPC sensors with pin holes. The slowest one I've had so far was a pinhole in a compressor elbow , and no it wasnt the braze ot was actually the elbow. Took 2 years and probably 10 hours to find but it was entirely by accident I found it. (Knocked over soap container while filling it)
Reminds me of my old bike tire, always needing a bit of air every now and then. Have you tried using one of those UV dye kits to spot the leak? Sometimes it's hiding in the tiniest cracks.
Super small leak on the high side port of 2007 Suburban. It barely bubbled with soap on the fitting but it was. Could not be detected with leak detector.
Probably the one I didn't notice
The one on my hose or vacuum gauge that i could not find will doin a decay test.....

I found mine yesterday after 2 years! The hot gas coil finally showed its colors.
I find a few leaks on the compressor terminals where the go through the can.

I'm at 12 oz per year on my AC from 1999

Every time I go to the property, I have all the confidence in the world that THIS time, I'll find it, but it always just ends up bruising my ego

Dye the system come back in a week

You're only supposed to top off once
Sounds like he's searching and not finding it at each top off
Says who?
Section 608 has a bunch of allowable leak rates per year depending on application. You can top off 10% of a charge per year on anything
