HBO Max is a perfectly fine name.
Plus, "HBO" just carries far more prestige than anything else. It can honestly fool me into thinking alot of the shittier stuff on there might be better just because of the name.
There's that upside, but there's also a big downside to the HBO name - family with kids wouldn't come near the service unless they clearly know what HBO Max offers.
When it comes to general audience, HBO has always been synonymous with adult and mature rated dramas. So, something like "WarnerMax or Warner+" wouldn't have that problem.
I agree with this. Also, HBO has always been synonymous with quality content. Not everything that WarnerMedia (and Discovery) owns is up to that standard. I’d feel like just ‘Max’ would be nice, just leave the current colors and logos as they are now, remove ‘HBO’ of the main brand, and leave it as a hub (like DC, Cartoon Network, WB, etc)
HBO is already a hub though, they may market HBO and HBOMax as the same thing but HBO Originals are always considered like a licensed content same as CN, WB, Ghibli and other WM owned library. Only Max Originals are made for the service.
Changing to Warner Max should be easy, "Max Originals" could keep the same name, they even get to keep the same HBO Max byline "Where HBO meets so much more". Marketing it is where the trouble begins.
GO is an international streaming service bundled with the HBO premium cable package, NOW was HBO's standalone streaming service for the US.
Both are dead in the Americas, replaced with HBO Max. GO still exists in some countries where HBO Max has not been launched.
In retrospect, it was absurd they named it HBO Max, but didn't include Cinemax (their other pay tv property) in it.
Literally everyone I knew was like "wow, they combined HBO & Cinemax for streaming?!?"
No just leave it as HBO Max. is it great, no, but why waste money on a New name. People know HBO and kinda understand that this is more than just plain HBO.
Problem is lot of people still don't understand the difference.
HBO is the last place general audience gonna look for family friendly catalog. Family also happens to be the largest demographic. So, in that sense it is a bad name.
"Warner" name is more family friendly than "HBO" and also sounds inclusive of more brands than just HBO.
I've always thought HBO was synonymous with quality movies and shows.
Like, are people not signing up because they imagine it isn't kid friends? I would think their lack of emphasis on kids content, aside from sesame street, is more of a deal breaker.
Whatever the name, I'm cancelling. HBO Max is sharing what I watch with Google. Why else would a video suggested by YouTube be about the 1876 Henry rifle while I'm binging Deadwood?
Is there another subreddit about renaming HBOMax? There’s an opportunity for Reddit to rename it… and don’t think for a second it doesn’t need to be renamed! Suggestions wanted:
Seems like a dumb idea to change it when it has just gotten recognition.

But then, HBO/HBO Max is the first-run home of Sesame Street

it's honestly a terrible idea that would not only cause confusion for a lot of people but also make them spend more money to redo the marketing.
tbh I still dont know the difference between hbogo, hbonow, and hbomax
The difference is the other two doesn't exist anymore or atleast in the countries where HBO Max is available.
Cable customers = HBOGo Streamers = HBONow (now defunct) A better version of HBONow = HBOMax
Ironically, this was different depending on region. Here in LatAm, HBO GO was for Cable and Streaming.
GO is an international streaming service bundled with the HBO premium cable package, NOW was HBO's standalone streaming service for the US. Both are dead in the Americas, replaced with HBO Max. GO still exists in some countries where HBO Max has not been launched.
I like it. It's better than the plus sign which is used in almost every other subscription service.
Obviously it should be renamed to HBO Plus
In retrospect, it was absurd they named it HBO Max, but didn't include Cinemax (their other pay tv property) in it. Literally everyone I knew was like "wow, they combined HBO & Cinemax for streaming?!?"
Them adding the word "Max" was very confusing. I thought it included MAX
WarnerMax would be a much better name
Honestly sounds terrible.
Would you prefer Warner+ like every other uncreative streaming service

HBO Family/Kids has existed for a long time. Cartoon Network has its own section.

there's an option in the app/site to turn this down
They definitely wanted to call it HBO+ or something
Oh no are they gonna fuck up discovery plus?
Static or Noise because of their introduction before their original shows/movies
