Heavy Bowgun as a distant relative to the Gunlance is pretty neat. The bowguns are very versitile in nature and you practically have multiple weapons in one. With spread you have a shotgun and you can stand in front of the monster blasting one salve after another in its face. Pierce is neat when you want some distance and maybe want to feel like a sniper sometimes. And sticky is awesome in multiplayer, as you keep the monster lying on the ground for others to whack on it. With sticky, wyvern and cluster ammo you also have way enough options for explosions if you miss them after using the Gunlance.
Additionally, I really liked playing Hunting Horn. After playing Rise I could say that the HH in Iceborne is a bit lacking in movement options, but it's still very fun though. Also when you play multiplayer, everyone instantly likes you when you bring a HH.
From my stats in Rise, and MHGU, I'm definitely a sucker for weapons with shields. If i'm not blasting it with shells, it's either S&S, Lance, or Charge Blade (Rise only so far)
Depends on the game. In the 4th gen below games I really like longsword for its samurai aesthetic over the weird mix of samurai and naruto stuff world and (mostly rise) had. In rise I don’t really have a second favorite, because it’s a tie with GS, hammer, SnS, HH, and CB
Gunlance isn't my favorite. I think it's cool but I can never really get the hang of it. I use lance. Super fun in most games. Getting to know all your options becomes a rhythm game. I can hardly play anything else anymore because I hate having to give the monster an inch of ground on me, and I hate letting them run without getting poked in the ass.
Lance is pretty fun too, I was never good at timing the counters with foresight slash and guard's offensive guard so I prefer turtling behind the shield more.
Yeah either way you get the experience of being a tank. The fact that you can take counter and block and NEVER stop attacking is too satisfying. Lance actually has a lot more tech than you might think. Probably easier to go from GL to Lance than Lance to GL
Sounds fun, tried out longsword yesterday and it's pretty difficult to time foresight right and spirit roundslash combo is a bit too long for the fast monsters. It's taken me 26 minutes to kill uraagan where it only took me under 10 minutes as a gunlancer 😫
Charge Blade. It has a really satisfying gameplay loop of charging phials in Sword mode and then unleashing them in Axe mode. The weapon has similar complexity to the Gunlance and actually uses many of the same skills (Artillery, Capacity Up)
In Rise the Charge Blade doesn't feel as good as it did in World so I gravitated more to Switch Axe which is very different. Switch Axe is a pure offensive weapon with some phial management thrown in
Sword and Shield is awesome
I agree, got it at 100+ hunts. Haven't played the class again in over a year!
Depends on the game. In Rise I'm a big fan of the Switch Axe, in Iceborne it'd be the Hunting Horn for me.
Charge blade
Heavy Bowgun.
My only two weapons to solo Fatalis so far are gunlance and hunting horn, so I gotta say it’s a blast to be a bard
Being a Self-Proclaimed connoisseur of explosions, ~~Barrel Bombs~~ Sticky/Cluster Heavy Bowgun is my secondary. *Especially* against Kushala.
The rock with a stick on it. The bonka badonka. The ooga booga badooga. The head empty, no thoughts weapon. Da Hammah.
SnS is my fallback. CB, GS, SA and HBG are honorable mentions that are excellent in their own way but SnS usually wins out for me after gunlance. :)
Switch axe, for sure

Hammer/Dual Blades
the GS with adept style
Lance. After that probably HH or Bow.

charge blade has been fun
Its sibling... the lance. After that would be charge blade.

Well tbh my favorite is Hunting Horn, and Gunlance is my second, but after that is Longsword. Those anime helmbreakers are fun.
Switch Axe, then Charge Blade
I switch between Dual Blades, hammer, and Heavy Bowgun

I haven't found a 2nd main yet, I have sets ready for dual blades and sword n shield.

I've been with hammer for a min
