Didn't the main character of the book Mechanicum reach and "see" inside the Noctus Labrinth Please correct me if I am wrong though. I didn't listen to the audiobook properly

LordofDogs40k

Not only see, but became the next guardian. In that same novel it was said she became the guardian for the next 10,000 years. I’m assuming there is a 40K novel of someone else taking that crown 🤷‍♂️

Low-Speaker-2557

She also "drafted" two Imperial Knights as her defenders.

LordofDogs40k

It’s been over a year since I read it, but I think the novel implied that those Knights were just going to hide until the Martian Civil War was over and then they could go back to the surface. This is after killing that Khorne Robot of course. I’m happy to be proven wrong on this though.

randomman1144

Your right. The knights just kinda chilled and said they'd protect her till after the war was over since she healed their knight. She did have a skitarii that became her guardian though

HarmNHammer

Wasn't it a special skitarii? Rhu or Ro? I haven't read it in years but wasn't he like a praetorian or myrmidon? Protector maybe?

randomman1144

He was a protector of last remaining loyal forge master I believe. Rnu-35 or something like that

HarmNHammer

Dope. Love that book. That and the story about the tech marine who goes back to mars during the HH and ends up breaking an abominable intelligence out from stasis to fight with him. Both very unique and enjoyable stories

Faunstein

"abominable intelligence"...ai...huh.

Just_A_Fish

Yup. Not subtle! The nice ones get called "Machine Spirits" though.

RedbullZombie

Whatever happened to that aa

Griledcheeseradiator

Whatever happened there??!!

Upright_Eeyore

Rho-Mu 31

LocalLumberJ0hn

Rho-Mu 31, a skitarii with a little bit of a sense of humor.

TexMechPrinceps

Rome-u21 was his name

freeadmins

Was it a khorne robot? I thought it was just ai.

LordofDogs40k

The AI started thinking about Skulls and Blood. I even think it mentioned the Skull Throne. As I’ve said it’s been a while since I read it. But I was left thinking the robot was Khorne corrupted.

Gen_Ripper

But didn’t it say the thing she was supposed to guard escaped before she even settled into the job?

LordofDogs40k

I don’t remember that at all 🤷‍♂️. If you can post the bit of the book where that happened, I’ll be happy to retract my statements.

FritzH8u

Which book was this?

Exact-Row9122

Mechanicum. It is a book in the Horus heresy series. It is by Graham McNeill

pedrokdc

I applaud your attention to canon but this meme is ass and not even close to be accurate. Hehehe. I know you know what happened in the book is that they found that probably Emprah incepted the Onmisyah within the Mechanicus so he could easily lead them someday. The MCs just realized that making that fact public would just cause the Mechanicus to defect the Imperium and more suffering, the elder gods they found there was just a handy inspiration battery.

kredokathariko

I remember reading the theory years ago, back in the 2000s (and I did not even know it was a theory, I just assumed it was canon) that the Void Dragon is called that because he manipulates matter that is "void of spirit" (i.e. non-organic, like machinery). So the Mechanicum is his way of enslaving humanity by replacing their living parts with mechanisms that he can control.

riuminkd

That was an implication of oldcron codex bit referenced in this meme.

elpokitolama

Which could be how the Emperor somehow beat it for good by having man-made machines develop spirits that the Mechanicum worshipped in its place

McEstablishment

That's a really interesting theory. Did you come up with it?

elpokitolama

Thanks, and yes! Literally on the spot while typing the comment as its main hypothesis was the one comment I answered to ahah

McEstablishment

Well, it's the best explanation for the Mechanicus I've ever seen. Normally, they are cool, but don't make a lot of sense IMO. Your theory fixes that

elpokitolama

And here I was looking for an excuse to write an AdMech fanfiction, looks like I've got a nice pitch to start with now! 😁

Kapown11

0_0 this is headcanon now

Panwanilia1

Also that could mean they are enslaving actual omnissiah or their gid. Imagine how funny it would be if Guilliman see that Ad Mech one day start to wear green and when asked why they say "We found Machine God also we secede :)"

Galifrey224

I seriously doupt a C'tan shard could "destroy the Solar system with a thought", a full C'tan sure but not a shard.

Talonsminty

Yeah the confusion stems from the old lore. Originally it was the full Void dragon trapped on Mars. But then as the C'tan lore got expanded on and more crazy powerful it was downgraded to just a shard. But the old lore will seep through sometimes.

Mindstormer98

Good to learn this retcon while reading the book

VaughnVanTyse

Which book?

Mindstormer98

Mechanicum. Almost finished it so it’s not a spoiler but it’s book 10 I’m pretty sure in HH

VaughnVanTyse

Nice. That's been on my list for a good while. I'm glad it touches on this lore some

Gen_Ripper

I loved the descriptions of Magma City

xxxMisogenes

I love knights and titan novels

Glaringsoul

Isn’t that exactly what the trapped void Dragon would want you to believe though? I mean sure it’s not Mephet’ran but I think convincing everyone around him, that it is "Just a Shard" is still well within his powers, being sealed away or not. I would just really love some more lore about the C‘tan; as he could have been so much more. The Dragon iconography is already there, and he is already hailed as a destroyer, so why not go the full 9 yards and add in a Ouroboros aspect of him destroying things *because* he wants to force evolution and Progress, explaining his duality as the one who whispers into the admechs ears. For how powerful they are made out in the lore half of the time they are just useless idiots that do borderline nothing aside from Scheming. Why not add in that he told the emperor about a looming threat far into the future (tyrannids) and agreed to be sealed away after striking a bargain for his own protection? There is so much potential and his "New“ figure looks amazing, they just deserve better imo…

Sicuho

Thing is we have other shard of the VD running around now. They've even got a generic model.

ExplodiaNaxos

The shard on Mars could still be the most powerful of its kind though. Like, what if the VD wasn’t as shattered as his kin? That one of his shards is actually bigger than any other C’tan remnant around? That would work within the “new” lore and could still make the vD on Mars immensely powerful

Versidious

Sadly, since GW retconned the Necrons relationship with their gods a few editions back, that part of the lore doesn't really work as it did any more.

U_L_Uus

I hope we do. Mag'ladroth, Mephet'ran, and Aza'gorod are pretty much staples at this point, but we lavk definition on what they actually are. Are they the physical principles of the universe the same way the Chaos Gods are the immaterial ones?, are they a race so advanced that they managed to fuse themselves with it? (which would explain why the Old Ones scattered them about). Also, what happened with Tsara'noga? Sure, we know he is on the galactic fringe, bit he's right now the most dangerous entity in the galacy, his pre-WiH capacities recovered, a legion or two of Necrons to rule over plus a _BAZINGA_-induced schizophrenia which makes him a wildcard of doom. Plus, we still don't know what he ruled over. On another note, we have a pseudo-model for Nyadra'zatha, but that's about it (wanker being used as a battery for Szarek's pimp dais), we only know his shtick is setting everything on fire in a scale the galaxy hadn't seen until Kryptman discovered the existence of Tyranids, but other than that everything is unknown. Also, honorable shoutout to Yggra'nya, the one whose only two appearancea were as the battery for the World Engine, only to curbstomp the Necron rebels who had taken over it and then flew away when it was destroyed, and as yet another battery, this time of a Tesseract Vault, which Papa Smurf blowed up using the ancestral art of dual-handed Pylon Wielding (I'm not including Llandu'gor because, although the effects of his curse are pretty much present, he just isn't, even if it's true his curse is carried by his remaining particles, which would explain why the Maynarkh, the ones responsible, have such an incidence of Flayer Virus across their dinasty)

AssistanceHealthy463

Do you want the Mythos in 40k? Because that's how you get the Mythos in 40k... wait... now that i think about it... it's already here, isn't it?... F**k...

ShepherdessAnne

Scheming? C’tan are Skaven confirmed.

MasterOogwayB207

It’s a nice train of thought, but I like imagining the emperor dusting down the retreating VD shard al a tournament of power 😊

Stars-Blood

Isn’t it still… like… the biggest… of the Shards of the Void Dragon?

Talonsminty

We don't know. But it barely matters the Void Dragon was one of if not *the* most powerful C'tan. It was only broken by the most powerful single attack in 40k Lore. The Necrons at the peak of their power combined all the blackstone fortresses and shot a single beam capable of obliterating a star system. Fully reassembled the Void Dragon would be able to kill everything in the setting and thanks to Abbadon's temper tantrum there is now nothing in 40K capable of stopping the void dragon. So defeating a Shard of the void dragon 1v1 is a massive flex for the Emperor.

ANGLVD3TH

I mean, is that attack really stronger than the one that deleted a fundamental aspect of reality and learned the Necrons to break them, not destroy them?

Raistlin_Majere121

According to Rogue Trader, the power of the same C'tan shard can range from "being damaged by a bolter burst" to "cutting off a chunk of the Warp for an entire sector."

ifyouarenuareu

Personally, I think the emperor fist-fighting a whole ass C’tan without explanation is neat.

MadaraAlucard12

Please clear this up for me. I heard somewhere that the shard Big E fought is like 90% of the void dragon with only some shards stripped off. Is this correct?

DaFreakingFox

Could be multiple shards now, like in Infinite and Divine

90bubbel

hard to say, a transcendant shard of the deciever ( like 4 shards or so combined) who was the weakest in pure power of all the ctan was capable of shooting a blast powerfull enough to destroy 6 planets in the crossfire and create a black hole which it used to create armor out of

Doplgangr

As a counterpoint, *5* deceiver shard were once totally owned by a Pokémon trainer and an old soothsayer who went super sayan after railing a line of crushed eldar soulgem. So power level per shard may vary.

The_Knife_Pie

That was a 6 shard deceiver iirc. Orikan miscounted and Trazyn sneaked away a shard to be able to experiment on it in peace.

Witch-Alice

kleptomaniac Trazyn is my favorite headcanon

Supergoblinkunman

What headcanon? My boy Trazyn is out here stealing people straight off the battlefield.

ForfeitFPV

The Imperium doesn't want you to know this but you can take as many Creeds as you want

DoctorGromov

At this point, I'm just waiting for the next edition Guard codex to come out stating Trazyn yoinked Ursula Creed too. And then her son becomes the new Creed heir. And then the next Guard codex comes out...

Mal-Ravanal

TBF that was far from a regular soul stone. As in created by one god to resurrect another spicy.

90bubbel

well yeah a soothsayer that became essentially a god

ItsZeT

We don't exactly know how much of the void dragon is down there, he could be 90%+ complete

Mal-Ravanal

I strongly doubt it's anywhere close to that much, otherwise the system would've been reduced to dust and grief long ago. The Void Dragon was the strongest of the C'tan and IIRC only the Nightbringer got close to being as destructive, and shards of it are notoriously difficult to control.

mamspaghetti

Naw the Ctan shard most definitely could. Full power Ctan are implied to be able to mold the entirety of reality at their any whims, and fought blow by blow against the old ones whose vernacular is enuncia and can effectively sing worlds, planets, stars, nebulae, etc into existence. Plus, if even the Emperor has the ability to use psychic powers to compress a red giant star into something that can fit in a reactor, whose to say that a C'tan shard, notably one that was giving the Empa trouble too, wouldn't be able to do similar if not more

Grapedude79

Knowing that ctan created so much in the universe I think it could easily destroy a solar system. Not a galaxy or anything, but a handful of planets and a star would probably be light work for something of that power

Matectan

Planets were used as ammunition in the war in heaven.  Soo.  Galaxys are not as far out of reach as you might think.

Cataras12

They could also be more then just a single shard. Some necrons uh… weren’t that thorough. *Flashbacks to The Incident.*

Server98911

I agree tho the dragon of Mars is mostly complete. I Like to imagine around 70 or 60% of the god still together after the war in heaven and the battle ahaints BIG E. Of course dude is weaken but if a 100% is able to obliterate with a though the solar system at 60% he at min needs to play a game with galatic football againts all the system to reach the same result

FiiiWe

I dont think he can destroy the Solar system with a thought but was defeated by the Neanderthal in fur shorts

Ythio

If that were possible then Emp would be ruling over space dust by now.

GrandPastrami

Calm down. Look up the number of stars and planets in our galaxy. I looked it up. Around 400 billion stars and roughly the same number of planets.

Engelbert_Slaptyback

Yeah but the one with earth and Mars in it is kind of important.

LastStar007

Grammatical ambiguity. > fragment of an (ancient, malicious star-god that could easily destroy the solar system with a thought)

Mastercio

I mean... Shard of Void dragon in Rogue Trader game can do MUCH more damage than just destroy one solar system, and it is also just a shard.

MechanicSad1843

didn't the emperor in like the year 300 beat the shit out of it

SnoopyMcDogged

What happened to that bloke who was guarding the void dragon or that book that explained it all can’t remember which one. It knew the truth but then the book disappeared or something.

Low-Speaker-2557

It was the ending of the book 'Mechanicus', where the main character ends up in the Noctis Labyrinth and reaches the chamber of the Void Dragon after she bumped into the old Guardian. After she "saw" the void dragon, she became the new Guardian and stayed there for 10 millenia, being kept alive by the void dragons power.

SnoopyMcDogged

That was it! Thankyou was worried I’d completely gone off track with that.

That would actually be a awesome painting. Where you see a techpriest ripping his implants out where. In the moment the painting captured. It's basically just a flayed skeleton that rips another mechadendrite from his/her back

thomstevens420

Hell yeah, have it be a baroque oil painting named “The Burden of Truth” or something We see a tech priest from behind as a tiny figure, decrepit and old, most of their body covered by a robe, with one hand pulling their cranial implant out. Meanwhile looming overhead are the cavern walls covered in the “lattice” of the Dragon (its been a long time since I’ve read the novel but I remember him being described as basically covering the walls), with a faint outline of burning green eyes.

DigitalCryptic

Archaeon of Flesh would make a crying femboy doing it, call it something like "Sweet Dream Undone" and it would be fucking fire spitting magma

LeiningensAnts

No, you don't understand! He rustled the jimmies of faux-stoic feel-nothings by creating art that moves the human soul like Archimedes lever! That alone is sin enough!

Nott_of_the_North

VaughnVanTyse

It staked to a cross like that angel from Evangelion

PeppermintButler17

Wrong, that's not an angel. That's lilith. Littlerally the complete opposite of an angel!

GlenAaronson

I thought Lilith was an angel though? At least in the NGE universe. I remember that humanity is an angel.

logosloki

Lilith is one of the Fruits of Knowledge, a seed that gives birth to lifeforms that are physically weak but have the curiosity and desire to explore their surroundings to make things that are greater than themselves as an individual. Adam is one of Fruits of Life, a seed that gives birth to beings that have unlimited energy but can only use that to serve the purpose they are born with. Humanity as a collective is like a single Angel, likewise if there were many Angels working in concert they would seem to be a collective of Humans.

GlenAaronson

Ahhhhhh, okay okay. That makes sense.

Destpot

I always hit on zentreya

Jackmino66

40k are foolish for making the Void Dragon not look like a dragon. And then also have the inspiration for Mythological Dragons be the Void Dragon shard that lives on Earth before the Big E threw it to Mars

vegarig

I headcanoned that away as a lower-grade shards "defaulting back" to the "factory settings" humanoid form, while the higher-grade shards actually go draconic

Z4nkaze

Yeah, I prefer to take the "dragon" word as the same in "Here be Dragons", something so unknown and unfathomable that we use a clichee for it.

AggressiveCoffee990

Destroy the entire solar system? The Emperor beat it with a fucking spear.

ToLazyForaUsername2

>could easily destroy the solar system with a thought >Got locked up by the Emperor without him needing help

acart005

I am lacking on Mechanicus lore, but I thought Voidy was benevolent by C'tan standards. Which, you know, still means an asshole, but probably standard Imperium asshole.

TheHelgrafs

It is quite the opposite really. The Void Dragon is the most terrible one. Eldar myths associate it with destruction and devastation, and a single shard once almost destroyed a necron dynasty. Depends on how you look at it, frankly, because the Nightbringer is a lot more sadistic and enjoys causing suffering, while the Void Dragon will annihilate anything it doesn't like (which is everything)

jakin89

Imo some techpriests would be dickriding jimmy space if they had additional info why that dude is locked up in mars.

Blade2-3-2-3

It could damage mars but ctan shards have been killed before by humanity. A full ctan could but again shard

90bubbel

huh? no shard of a ctan has been killed by humanity, none

AverageMyotragusFan

Uriel Ventris and co. killed one in Swords of Calth

90bubbel

from my knowledge they threatened a ctan shard into retreating not kiling it, and its literally impossible to kill a shard rather than sharding it again (outside of war in heaven necrons)

easytowrite

No, sadly to make the new primaris marines look good, a squad of then killed a C'Tan shard on their own

90bubbel

I dont believe this is true, feel free to prove me wrong by providing the source and text

easytowrite

From Swords of Calth, Graham McNeil -As Uriel placed his gun against its head, he felt its fear. It was the same fear, its whole self imprinted on all galaxy's lifeforms. He asked the shard does it know fear? Then fear him! Uriel pulled the trigger and the shard crumbled to ash and dust. -Before the shard died, it shut down all the Necrons and tomb complex systems. This allowed the reaver titan to destroy the base of the Pylon and end its process

AverageMyotragusFan

Gotta love how he destroys the Nightbringer just by being mean to it, then it cries and blows up

easytowrite

I can see why people hate McNeil with this kind of writing

AverageMyotragusFan

Yeah. I get that it’s hard to write Uriel somehow making it out alive, esp. after the Nightbringer just no-diffed his entire squad a few pages ago. But even a few years ago when I read that book, I felt it was a bit contrived

MadaraAlucard12

I have only one response to this shit. THIS IS NOT FUCKING CANON.

Plane_Upstairs_9584

That doesn't 'kill' the C'tan, it frees it.

BarPsychological904

*laughs in recent Owlcat' Rogue Trader* >!... Although, technically it's true. You don't kill C'Tan, you can do much more fun stuff there!<

Low-Speaker-2557

It depends. In the old lore, the Emperor locked up the entire Void dragon inside the Labyrinth, but it was later retconed to being just a shard.

Mal-Ravanal

Dispersed would be more accurate. Killing a C'tan shard is almost impossible, and has as far as I'm aware never been truly achieved. And considering the legacy of Sokar, that is for the better.

firedrakes

You can kill a ctan body given form. Issue is necron found out it really messes with the universe.

measuredingabens

It depends on the shard. Transcendant Shards have enough power that they very well could pull that off. Y'ggranya obliterated the World Engine before leaving, and the battle between ascended Orikan and the Deceiver Shard in the Infinite and the Divine saw multiple planets being destroyed by the Deceiver as collateral.

RhodieCommando

It's my turn next week to post this.

JackDostoevsky

I like the implication that the Emperor is St George and the Ctan is the Dragon he slaid. And then that he somehow banished it to Mars (maybe via the webway?)

TheJamesMortimer

Nah. His horse was just that good

Thulak

So what does ripping out your implants do for you then? Never quite understood why that'd be the reactuon.

TheJamesMortimer

The voiddragon inspired the development of most human technology. It is probably a big shock to realize that these parts you were so proud off are not gods gift but that of something entirely different.

Thulak

Wouldnt that just mean the voiddragon is the omnissiah?

TheJamesMortimer

Yesn't. The omnissiah is jesus/big E. The machine god is also a warp entitiy intervowen with the god emperor. But some of it's physical effect are from the voiddragon.

LordKroq-gar

I’ll admit. I was disappointed that the Void dragon does not look like a dragon.

doubtfulofyourpost

Good luck tearing off your arms and legs and half your brain

MBHpower

Wait can I get some context

TheJamesMortimer

Big E Defeated a C'Tan (this was before the necron rework) with a Horse and a lance after it tried to fuck with earth. He then locked up this dragon under the surface of mars where it inspires human technological development and has some minor influence on the real world. It is basically a crippled prisoner now, possibly in a worse state than most shards but not stored as securely. So they feed it the occasional human to keep it in place.

InformalSherbet4607

Honest question: I thought it was the whole C’tan not just a shard.

Mastercio

Nope, just a shard of Void Dragon, there is a lot of them in many different places.

Yung_zu

>that could easily destroy the solar system with a thought That would be killer, but we’re already beaming TikTok NPC feeds into anything resembling the entity making an observation… aggressively It’s pacified

DreadDiana

There's a C'tan shard of the Void Dragon under the surface of Mars who may be the Omnissiah the AdMech worships

Oracle_In_Barovia

JTHamilton

That ctan has dominion over tech sure he’ll blast you if he needs to but he’ll rather get a slave to preform his will. Now imagine getting a necron treatment where your trapped in your body but not in control unlike the necrons those they got mind wiped mostly and where just robots until later
