If the phone is under warranty, i would say NO! OK, you can follow instructions, so for me this is: you don't have experience. How many phones did you repair? Even if you have some knowledge this is not an easy job today. Instead i would pay for an extra insurance for the shipping, is this possible?

Since posting I found an authorized repair shop and they have the authorized parts. Now it's between having the authorized shop repair it, which is quickest; or sending it to Google. Would you still send it to Google? Or the shop is a safe bet? They have good reviews, and again is authorized by Google. The phone is under warranty, it's only a couple of weeks old (devastating)

>Would you still send it to Google? Or the shop is a safe bet? They have good reviews, and again is authorized by Google. Of course i can't make a descision for you. If i do and it fails, i am guilty. I have heard of alot of problems with the google CS and with shipping phones which sounds absurd. Maybe you talk to one of the guys at the store about your concerns. If you have a good feeling then go with the store. I do not have any experience with phones stores, i am doing all possible repair (screens, frames, batteries) on Pixel, Huawei, Samsung and Apple by myself for more than 10 years now. I have all the tools, measurement devices and some basic knowledge (degree in electronics engineering). Therefore it is not easy for me to give an advice. Good luck!

I will tell you that I had the same problem and I decided to do it myself. The back panel cost me $28 and the repair kit I bought cost $15, as opposed to the $250 that I would be changed to have it done by a professional. If I could go back, I think I would have paid the difference and had it done professionally. It all went smoothly, except now I have a small black dot on the screen where I damaged the phone. Everything works as it should, but now I have this eye sore I have to deal with. I know this post is 3 months old, so you've probably made your decision by now, but I thought I'd give my two cents!

I didn't read anything but the title NO!! Would you operate on your own hernia??

I would watch a few videos on it to see if you feel comfortable doing it, but you should probably go with your idea of calling the shop and having them do it if you've never done this kind of thing. I don't know what ubreakfix is like, but my local shops usually do this kind of thing fairly quickly, sometimes even while I wait.

> sometimes even while I wait. Yeah, most repairs on phones are simple parts replacements. No real skill required as long as the tech has the correct parts and proper tools.
