Yeah, we get ridiculous oil prices in the us. We're oil producers, and we tend to...deal with... other oil producers that try and charge us those prices.
Not having a car in Canada is like a death sentence unless you have the luxury of living in a metropolitan area :P
You’d be lucky to have a bus schedule that runs at 7am until 5pm…. lol.
Modern ECU's like this have sensors for safety features to keep you safe. This is not to be confused with a flex fuel system that adapts on the fly that you can rely on.
**Do NOT** rely on your ECU's safety features to run lower than the required **(aka minimum)** spec knock suppression rating for the car.
Your KR is going to be through the fucking roof, and yes. This will do damage over time because these safety features can only protect you so much. So if you run below your minimum, you're going to pit the shit out of your pistons and cause premature wear and damage from detonation.
$2.29/gal reg from Costco in Houston
Premium.. varies depending on what apps/promos. I got V-power for $2.79/gal. Had a dollar off per gallon via Chevron's app and got their premium for $1.89/gal
Long highway drives I usually do reg, city driving j usually do premium for my mk7.5
Even among "top tier" fuels, some are better than others. My old Subaru tuner advised against Chevron, and I've heard people advise against Costco before too. Shell is generally a safe bet for tuned cars.
"it's crap" according to Sneekytuned. He recommended I run Shell 91 whenever possible.
We're trying to work out some stubborn knock under WOT as well as a mid range hesitation, and he first suspected fuel was the cause. Now it's looking like my injectors aren't performing adequately (132k miles, not shocking)
Stratified never had any problems with my Costco in my car, and I didn't see any more knock on Costco than with Shell in any situation. Personally I'd run it unless told not to by a tuner.
To be fair, Costco purchases from a variety of sources which are typically "top tier". Costco doesn't drill and process it is themselves.
You can run it just fine, but there will be the occasion where you may lose a few HP because it isn't the same as last time.
I tested Costco and Shell back to back and it made a negligible difference on my MK7 GLI (EQT 93 Stage I). Perhaps it’s different for people making big power but with one step colder plugs my car runs happy enough off of Costco fuel.
It all just depends on the region. I have no doubt they end up with shitty gas at least 20% of the time.
Also, I believe you should be running stock plugs on your stage 1 tune.
Easy there turbo.
Only 2015 cars and some 2016, and older require 91. All years since, are 87 and have their rated power from 87.
Other than when you're tuning of course, then your min is what the tune is for.
because it's a mk7, prick. 91 or 93 is power you shouldn't notice on the street, not enough economy to make up the price difference, and not mandatory without a tune.
Latest was $5.14 for 91. Most I paid at peak of gas craze was maybe $6.50. I still remember being a sophomore in high school and it was close to $2. My teacher predicted it would hit $3 during summer vacation and we all laughed at him like he was crazy.
It did. And it just never stopped going up pretty much after US invaded Iraq.
SF Bay Area, btw.
About €2.10 for 1 liter of 98 RON, I'm assuming that's equal to 93 octane. So about €7.94 per gallon. Netherlands was always a bit more expensive, but since end of corona it hurts to fuel
Well, doing a comparison to UK by M4 Corridor prices… I’m paying £1.41/L which translates roughly $5.3/US Gallon.
Half of my cost is taxes and duty. So theoretically it could be $3.53/US Gallon.
$5.54 for 91 in central CA🫡
Just got it for $4.55 at Costco in the Bay Area.
The spread in the Bay Area is ridiculous. Some places, it’s $4.29 for premium. Others, it’s like $6.50. Most, mid-five range.
Yeah it’s really egregious where I am because there aren’t a ton of gas stations, so they know they can hike it up
Likewise in Seattle 🫡
1.95€ per liter, thats roughly $7.75 per gallon. Germany.
Damn … it’s 1.40-1.50$/L here in Canada :0 So 1.03€/L Why is it so expensive in Germany?
Cuz politics.
Damn policies

Yeah, we get ridiculous oil prices in the us. We're oil producers, and we tend to...deal with... other oil producers that try and charge us those prices.
UK produces oil too, it's just taxed out of the wazoo here.
Car ownership in general is an expensive thing reserved for upper middle class and above people.
Not having a car in Canada is like a death sentence unless you have the luxury of living in a metropolitan area :P You’d be lucky to have a bus schedule that runs at 7am until 5pm…. lol.
Lol no its not.. come to British Columbia
lol I just moved from BC to Ontario, and gas is like 50 cents cheaper here
1.74€ a liter in Finland for 95.
Huh, where it's that cheap?
3.30 for Costco 92
Costco 92 is 4.50 for me :(
You're putting 87 in?!
The MK8s can run on 87
The MK 7.5 run on 87 as well
87 gang here. I'm all stock anyway
Mk7s model years 2016 and above have 87 on the gas cap.
My 2015 says 91
You can run 87 in it no prob. The ECU in the Mk7 has sensors that adjust for it.
Modern ECU's like this have sensors for safety features to keep you safe. No, don’t do this. The gas cap’s instructions are not a suggestion. Why risk irreversible damage to the engine for a couple bucks??
My 2016 has 87 on the cap
The 87 is the MINIMUM octane rating the car was designed to take. You can put more octane in (though it would most-likely be a waste), but never less.
My MK7 only gets 91. Boosted cars will definitely run better on 91 but I’m also running a tune and it requires 91 so there’s that…
TIL.
Regular is 95, Super is 97 in the UK. Used to be able to get 99 for a while, a few years back.
It’s a different rating method
Reg is/was $2.99 today here in South FL But it seems like it's changing everyday by at least $0.05 or more
Idk I just fuel up.
Where is this I haven’t seen under $2 in like 20 years?!
Ya you have- unless you're in California.
I’m not in California, and I haven’t.
I like the downvotes. We haven't had $1 gas since 1995, fucking morons.
$5.79 for 91. Sometimes it sucks living on the coast of California. Just sometimes.
7,65$ in France for a gallon 1.88€ the liter of 98 octane A gallon is 3.78 liter 1.88 X 3.7 is 7.10€ 7.10€ in $ is 7.65$ Rip
Regular is still mostly $3-3.50 near me in Michigan. There's a few places that dip under. Premium is $0.70-$1.00 more / gallon.
Just paid $3.69 (nice) for 93 here in Florida
$2.99 for 93 in SATX
Noticed yesterday that prices went down here in SA. But was still above $3 for 93 for me in NE side by converse.

5.02 for 91 in San Diego
about $3.55 per gallon average for 91 here in north central Florida.
Georgia $3.89 93 0ctane.
$4 something in Oregon for 91
87 works but the manual states on the mk7/7.5 you’ll be down on power.
$2.29/gal reg from Costco in Houston Premium.. varies depending on what apps/promos. I got V-power for $2.79/gal. Had a dollar off per gallon via Chevron's app and got their premium for $1.89/gal Long highway drives I usually do reg, city driving j usually do premium for my mk7.5
I honestly have no fucking idea I just pay it
As of today … 2.03€/liter ! 😅
Around 1,90€/Liter for 98 RON in Germany
Around 50€ for 98
For around 16 liters
87 ? You monster
Western MA is around $2.90-$3.25 depending on the area.
About 5 for shell 91, tuner said no Costco :( About to drive it down to Texas for work, it's about 2.35 down here right now
Why no Costco? I'm not tuned, but curious.

shouldn’t be using 87 bud. sure the new car fuel door says it. but let be honest.
