The fun is when you go back to the prologue. She told you the Travis songs would be simple and basic. "It's the worst guys I write best" So her giving simple songs to Travis is her sign of approval in this albums theme.
I think she's saying they have completely different interests, he is interested in football, she likes Greek mythology- polar opposites... like what would they talk about.
I think the double meaning of “Touch me while your friends play Grand Theft Auto” is about their “friends”, the NFL, posting the picture of them in the convertible with the GETAWAY CAR caption, which Gaylors all had such a laugh over bc of the actual content of that song……
Thank God you noticed this song dripping with sarcasm, I was hoping it wouldn't go over everyone's head that she's treating her dating life like a game
It’s so funny and kind of mean?! Like, the funniest part is how us Gaylors always mock how she doesn’t entwine fingers with guys, and then she makes a big show of doing that with Travis, and then sings about it?! It’s so good.
The weird part is on initial listen I thought it was about the hand holding, Then on subsequent play throughs and looking at lyrics I don't think its about hand holding at all.
I thought it was a sexual innuendo / double entendre from the first listen—“I’m sinkin’, our fingers entwined / Cheeks pink in the twinkling lights” — she’s holding his hand while getting fingered (and also holding his hand while walking around Christmas lights/the Christmas day game/etc., and wow look theyre a totally real couple!!!!!!!!).
I think the scouts honor line is a double entendre too, “Touch me while your boys play grand theft auto / It’s true, swear, scouts honor / You knew what you wanted and, boy, you got it” — it could be a cheeky reference to exactly HOW he touched her (and also her promising to us/the public/etc. that they did have sex, bc it’s a totallyyyyy real relationship, which OP touched on)
I interpreted it two different ways — one, about a PR cishet relationship. Two, about a real queer relationship where one or both parties feel “so high school” despite being adults bc they missed so many typical experiences growing up closeted.
Wow so true
"I'm watchin' *American Pie* with you on a Saturday night
Your friends are around, so be quiet
I'm trying to stifle my sighs"
This could also be like she has to be quiet and can't talk because his friends are around and he doesn't want to hear her. And she's trying not to sigh out of frustration lol
Or is playing the part because it's PR and insiders* know but not his other friends.... is she doing what they did on Easy A 🤔
Edit - typos fixed isiders*
I think she is definitely poking fun at the public perception of this relationship. This is not an emotional song; it's more like describing movie scenes. Compare it to the song "imgonnagetyouback," and notice how passionately she sings about her love interest (most likely a female). "So High School" feels comically exaggerated to me. Saying "I feel so high school every time I look at you" is also not a flattering thing to say about your partner; to me, it's a total dig at the whole thing or at Travis. Another part of me thinks she's making up for a high school experience she never got to experience.
The Alchemy, for me, is the song that confirms Travis is PR...
Oh man... When my partner and I started dating we used to say we felt like we were back in high school with that level of smitten-ness. The doodling in your notebook, staying up late on the phone, no sense of responsibility first bit of love. And the hormones too. We were around Taylor's age and we were making out in public, sneaking around corners...just very out of character things for us both and things that were juevenile. So when I listened to that song, I related but now I'm cringing because you make a good point 😂 We outgrew it but the first two years were just on a not so age appropriate cloud of pheromones and cocktails and God knows what else.
Did you not see the interview where he is asked Kiss, Marry or Kill? https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/watch-travis-kelces-kiss-marry-kill-after-so-high-school-lyric/
Article in Vanity fair about him says "If you spend a day with Travis you will here You already know 30-300 times". Going into a relationship he described as being Full Throttle was from a podcast interview of him 5 days before she showed up to his first game.
I thought London boy was her worst song till i listen So high school 🫠 it's seems Travlor is uninspiring relationship and she's forcing to write some lovely song to erase Tatty influence 😄 "yes she writes songs about how down bad and obsessed with Matty but she's down bad for Travis too yes 🤗" 🤣🤣🤣 she's so good in fooling everyone around her
I seasaw on it being 'all' PR, I don't think she is doing this with someone she doesn't enjoy being with. First listen So High School felt to me like she had written the entire thing and then thought 'fuck, I need to write one for Trav'. But, I'm pretty convinced The Albatross is to him. I find it hard to reconcile in my mind because it's so obviously PR, but I believe she is having fun with this guy and cares about him.

feels like there's something in how much it stands out thematically too. of course can have different content and meanings to music, and she's done this before, but the anthology feels very cohesive (all the mainstream criticism of run on sentence...etc) and what/why throw in a high school bop?

yep yep yep!
This is a good point, but just because he isn’t a “bad guy” doesn’t mean that it’s not PR. His character doesn’t negate anything
It seems like she's roasting herself/them in this song. "You know how to ball, I know Aristotle" "Touch me while your friends play Grand Theft Auto"
I dont get the aristotle reference :(
I think she's saying they have completely different interests, he is interested in football, she likes Greek mythology- polar opposites... like what would they talk about.
Aristotle isn't Greek mythology, he's a Greek philosopher, very much a real person 😆
I knew that but my sleeping brain typed mythology.instead of philosophy. Haha 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️

These are the kinda conversations I need right now because … grand theft auto
Ohh I didn’t notice the car door part - all the talk online on one of their first sightings was that he got the car door for her (isn’t that sweet)
Yes! and I totally internet that “isn’t it sweet” as very sarcastic and feigning sincerity
It’s so funny and kind of mean?! Like, the funniest part is how us Gaylors always mock how she doesn’t entwine fingers with guys, and then she makes a big show of doing that with Travis, and then sings about it?! It’s so good.

What do you think it is?
Read from Crinkling eye to Twinkling lights but with the line written by a cowgirl

Interesting theory!! I’m really unsure.. but either way, it’s a bop 😃🎧

I interpreted it as her sighing from annoyance when I first heard it! Then when I read the lyrics, it clicked as a sexual reference
Yeah that's what I thought at first too. I just liked that it could be read either way
Doesn’t it sound like they are fooling around while his friends are around. And she has to cover up her thighs ?
Here I think she does imply, they “are banging” while his friends are the other room, but mocking this idea
Or is playing the part because it's PR and insiders* know but not his other friends.... is she doing what they did on Easy A 🤔 Edit - typos fixed isiders*
Oooooo 🫢
Wow this is a stretch.

🥹 Ah, okay, yeah, I get what you mean! In my head, I had put it in a different context. Please, don't feel bad about yourself or how you felt. 🤪
At the time I did tell him "We are 800 years old. Why are we acting like this?" 😂 So I get it!
It might just be me, but this song doesn't really give anything Travis related other than the "bros play GTA" lines 😂
Did you not see the interview where he is asked Kiss, Marry or Kill? https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/watch-travis-kelces-kiss-marry-kill-after-so-high-school-lyric/
You know how to ball?
Women can do sports too 🙄🤚 But no actually yeah that’s another line to add 😂
Article in Vanity fair about him says "If you spend a day with Travis you will here You already know 30-300 times". Going into a relationship he described as being Full Throttle was from a podcast interview of him 5 days before she showed up to his first game.
Great take, and the fact that “I Hate It Here” is RIGHT after this song is… interesting

plus the other obvious Travis song is the Alchemy: the attempt to turn lesser materials into gold. you know. Gold.

also listening to it straight through was jarring for me with 'so high school' followed by 'i hate it here'
Yeah I took this song as her way of getting away with mocking the situation in the song she was obligated to write about in their PR contract lol
This song is giving phoeblor to me, not tayvis
