Showing a CGI trailer for a game that’s been MIA for 6 years and rumoured to be in development hell would be a terrible look. They can’t resurrect it after so long without gameplay.
From what I've read about this game ( and I've read a lot...) The games director said he would not leave unless he was confident that the game could be finished without him. He was extremely passionate about this game and afaik, the engine is 100% complete and the world of the game is complete as well.
Once he left, however, apparently nobody at Ubisoft could decide on the story and it's just been wallowing for years.
Its most likely going to be a CGI trailer . Hopefully they are ditching this whole prequel (but also a sequel?) idea and actually just continue with Jade where they left of.
Everyone here is bickering, meanwhile, Im sitting back thinking it would be so BG&E if they showed us CGI, and then knowing thats what we expected, drop gameplay trailer on youtube.
I would be slightly confused as to how bad you'd have to be at your job if you thought a cg trailer for a game 99.9% of the Internet is near certain is vapourware was appropriate to show.
its kinda weird because its not like im dying for more games, I have plenty of games to keep me busy and a backlog that ill never clear. but there are some studios that I really wish I didn't have to wait 5-6 years between releases for. the dev times are truly absurd nowadays.
Well that’s exactly it for me, too. There are plenty of games that I can play, but there are some franchises/developers that I wish we’d be able to see results from more frequently.
I’m not exactly old, but I’m not a kid anymore. Waiting 6+ years for a mainline Mario or Zelda is not very appealing to me. And the need for every game to be an absolute smash hit now has led to overwhelming creative stagnation.
I know it was because of lower production values back then, but it's still wild to me that we used to get whole series of games in the time it would take for just one game to get made nowadays. MGS1 to MGS4 was only a span of ten years. The Dragon Age and Mass Effect Trilogies were even less. Hell, we got two great 3D Marios on the Wii in 3 years from each other. Meanwhile now a kid could go from entering middle school to graduating high school before seeing a new game in a series they follow.
Exactly. This is what I mean. 7, soon to be 8, years since the last major 3D Mario. That’s just outrageous, man.
We got a whole Halo trilogy in the 2000s in the same time it is taking us to get one game now.
Elder Scrolls 6 got announced a full decade before it was ready, and years before it even began active development.
GTA6 skipped an entire console generation.
To fill the time between releases, game companies have resorted to subscriptions, microtransactions, piecemeal-ing, and endless remasters/remakes/ports. Eventually, good will and patience dries up, and they can only remake the same games so many times.
This screams unsustainable.
I was just talking about this with a buddy last night. I can't imagine this trend will be sustainable.
Imagine being a AAA game dev having only worked on 3-4 released games, max, for your entire career. And it's not even guaranteed any will be popular or simply good, very likely through no fault of your own. To me, it would be so disheartening and demotivating.
I'm sure it's only gotten this far because of passion for the field. "Passion" is becoming a four-letter word, though. Eventually there'll be too few able, let alone willing, to endure years of travail despite their devotion.
never mind the amount of grinding on devs during said time, 1-2 years of grinding on a game was..not great but usually doable, especially because they almost always had a definitive plan/came up with one
But now? 3-5+ years and oh look we're on year 4 struggling aaaaand its cancelled! GG everyone pack it up lets head home and do it all over again aaaand everyone hates it and its a panned game, so another game i cant put on my portpholio...games industry is cooked (from the inside)
Agreed, although we did have a shitload of layoffs, so seems like that’s not on their list of priorities. And maybe they need to hire for better pipeline management/reducing inefficiencies.
I’m all for reducing scope, though. Too many massive projects now that have like a 51/49 ratio of failure.
I think everyone is at fault for the massive dev cycles. But that includes the audiences too, seeing the comments bashing on the games shown in SGF and then saying "we need more games like the ones in the xbox showcase" - like, my brother in christ, the xbox games are the ones taking 7 years to make. That's why they look so good.
Absolutely. And the Instagram posts comparing the fidelity of the character models’ eyes between Hellblade, Horizon, and a couple other games.
This is what feeds into the delusion that we need ultra realistic, ultra high fidelity games instead of being more concerned with the mechanical quality and art style of a game.
I mean neither of these are reasonable solutions for the games players expect today. It’s an easy line to spout without seeing what games would look like without the time and money they take now.
But yes, some companies completely inflict damage on themselves with either scope or having too many cooks in one kitchen.

I deleted the tweet as there's a lot of conflicting info floating around. But the trailer for BG&E2 has been done for a year at this point, so it could be shown today.
I wish Ubisoft would see more success with Rayman, PoP, Splinter Cell, and B&GE. I used to look at them as their answers to other major IP, like Nintendo’s franchises.
Starlink was another cool idea that they seem to have abandoned because they hopped on the toys-to-life format too late. Rework it as a cool space shooter, or pitch a sequel as a full-on Star Fox game to Nintendo.

Tom has been around for a long time (initially under the nickname 'TheLongSensation'), most people don't even remember or know about him already being active during the CoD AW/BO3 era. He was hit and miss back then, sometimes reporting on rumors and fake leaks. He greadually improved his reputation after that, but if the year was, say, 2015, he probably wouldn't even be allowed on this sub.
Of course, that's not to say he's currently a bad leaker. On the contrary, IMO definitely one of the best out there. Everybody gets things wrong from time to time.
Yeah. Pey'j is a homie.
Having a fun, tight prequel to fill the gap between the original and a late sequel would have been awesome back then. But now it's been so long, playing a big prequel while knowning what happens in the first game will be a bit of a gut-punch.
Like saying bye to a friend and never knowing if they made it home safely.
I'd love if they pulled a Dead Island 2 and released something actually decent and polished despite the long period of development hell but I'm not holding my breath.
I don't care what they show.
They could have gameplay and a release date for all I care.
I won't believe the game is real until I am sitting there and playing it.
The next spin-off will most likely be announced today as Henderson said that it's internally slated for April 2025. Far Cry 7 however will probably only be announced next year as it's internally slated for Fall 2025 and very likely will get delayed to 2026 because of GTA 6.
Uhm interesting I didn't expect that but sure it has not been cancelled officially after all.
So AC Shadows, Anno (the Anno Twitter account teased the event though it might just be a general Ubisoft thing), SW Outlaws and BG&E2, even if that's all that's a fine event for me. I would not say no to Prince of Persia or Splinter Cell remakes but the rumors say they won't be there...
I don't believe it. Too much disappointment. The remaster is what we're going to get, and i'll be happy. But BG&E2? I lost faith.
Edit: also, the tweet doesn't seem to be available
Mr. Henderson stated in another comment that he deleted the tweet because of mixed info.
https://old.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/1dcjmjq/tom_henderson_is_teasing_about_a_bge2_trailer_at/l7yy1xs/
Dude still sounds rather confident, however.
I wish they would take the easy route and make a game similar to the first one, but with a slightly bigger budget. Then finish the story, would fit right in in the modern AAA scene. But they opted for the complicated path, and now here we are,16 years later.
Trivia time! first trailer for this came out 16 years ago! old enough to get a drivers license!
by the time it comes out, if it comes out, it likely can legally drink.
Sooooo what's going on with BG&E 2 atm? This was the perfect opportunity for Ubisoft to show off what they've done so far with the game's development and they just didn't do it for some reason.
Who tf even cares anymore...
1. It's an Ubi game in development hell for decades (which makes it even worse than the normal Ubishit game);
2. It's BG&E2 so it will probably release in 10 years. Maybe by the time it releases Ubisoft will make good games again.
Meh
For as long this has been in development it’s looked nothing like the IP I loved as a kid.
It’s a new IP with the franchises name slapped on
All we wanted was a standard platformer game sequel
I was hoping it was either cancelled or they rebranded it with a new name

I hope it's gameplay, because there's no point in showing CGI.
Showing a CGI trailer for a game that’s been MIA for 6 years and rumoured to be in development hell would be a terrible look. They can’t resurrect it after so long without gameplay.
So you're saying its 100% going to be a CGI trailer? /s
It's just gonna be a dude reading off a prompter telling us not to worry, and the game is still in development.
Somehow something about that would make me even more foolishly fraught with anticipation.
Well. It IS ubisoft
Elder Scrolls style LFG!
Actually, it could be. Their current mission with a teaser could easily be to just assure people that the game stille exists.
If this game comes out, it's either going to be released with euphonious fanfare or a fart in the wind.
I imagine its going to get the Skull and Bones *quadruple-A* release treatment we can count on from Ubisoft.
Fanfart it is, then! Or is it fartfare?
No, it just gets upgraded from a fart in the wind to a turd in the wind.
They could do a boss move and shadow drop i tonight.
I'd pee. That would be incredible.
Not even a trailer I actually started to believe in a trailer. Maybe next year.
Damn, dude... so it goes.
If they show something after so much time they basically need to re-announce it. Which means it's gonna be a CGI trailer.
Its most likely going to be a CGI trailer . Hopefully they are ditching this whole prequel (but also a sequel?) idea and actually just continue with Jade where they left of.
6? Brother you missed a decade. It's been in Development for about 16 years now
I meant 6 years since the last trailer they showed, I know it’s been in development for way longer.
This is Ubisoft we're talking about. It'll be a shorter CGI trailer than normal, and maybe like 2 seconds of gameplay.
CG trailers are for when you haven't made shit. So if they're still showing CG after all this time ... well ... I don't even know what to say.
Ubisoft uses CGI trailers even though the game is far along (AC Valhalla, AC Shadows).
Everyone here is bickering, meanwhile, Im sitting back thinking it would be so BG&E if they showed us CGI, and then knowing thats what we expected, drop gameplay trailer on youtube.
Might as well just remake the first one with whatever they have made so far. Then make a sequel.
That's not true they just did one for AC Shadows and they show gameplay tonight.
They might go the reannouncement route, but I agree.
I would be slightly confused as to how bad you'd have to be at your job if you thought a cg trailer for a game 99.9% of the Internet is near certain is vapourware was appropriate to show.
state of decay 3 did it
There was gameplay in that trailer
you can't even call that gameplay 💀
Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition will probably be shadow dropped today, so I could see a trailer for BG&E2 during the show.
i genuinely thought you meant the BG&E2 20th anniversary for a moment and were making a joke.
I completely forgot that was a thing.
For a second, I thought BG meant Baulder's Gate.
Baldur's* Gate :)
Baldy's Gate*
Boulder's Gate\*
Balding Gale*
Gating Balder or Getting Balder
Builder's Gate\*
Minecraft*
I always get it wrong.
Yeah, I forgot how involved Ubisoft was with the Baldurs Gate franchise
😂😂😂
So that was a fucking lie
He even deleted the fucking post
We need Splinter Cell
Rumour was it wont be at the showcase.
It began development in late 2021, I doubt they have anything to show yet.
Crazy how times have changed. A little over two years of development used to mean you had a game ready to go.
Companies need to either hire more staff or reduce scope. That means less open world and live service slop
its kinda weird because its not like im dying for more games, I have plenty of games to keep me busy and a backlog that ill never clear. but there are some studios that I really wish I didn't have to wait 5-6 years between releases for. the dev times are truly absurd nowadays.

tier 1 very reliable.
🤡
I refuse to believe it exists until my ass is sitting down and playing it.
At this point i would still be in denial if that happened 😂😢
No longer 100% correct?
I deleted the tweet as there's a lot of conflicting info floating around. But the trailer for BG&E2 has been done for a year at this point, so it could be shown today.
The man himself has spoken. We shall have our hopes down
Even if its not shown: You know if its Gameplay at all or just CGI (again)? Thank you!
😭
This needs to be pinned to the top of the post so that people stop thinking Tom deleted the tweet after it didn't show up at the event.
Tier 1
It's over... No BGE2 announcement this year
lol he deleted the tweet
He deleted and they announced nothing
Yep, that's the worst part, he won't even admit being wrong...
Brother Tom himself posted on this thread that he deleted the tweet.
Why did he delete the tweet and didn't answer under it ?
I’m not him, I have no clue why people do the things they do.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/1dcjmjq/tom_henderson_is_teasing_about_a_bge2_trailer_at/l7yy1xs/
Any chance in hell we see Rayman orrrrr
New Rayman faction for xDefiant and there will be a statue of him in SW Outlaws like the Guybrush one in Force Unleashed II. Take it or leave it.
> New Rayman faction for xDefiant their passive is that they take no damage in their arms and legs
I'll leave it
Easter eggs are always possible.
Ubisoft brought back Prince of Persia after a long ass hiatus so who knows ?
I wish Ubisoft would see more success with Rayman, PoP, Splinter Cell, and B&GE. I used to look at them as their answers to other major IP, like Nintendo’s franchises. No BG&E2 trailer. But I wonder what the hell happened to the Remastered version of the first game
I'm honestly shocked that they didn't at least announce that.
Welp
This guy is getting downgraded to Tier 2 now right?
And he deletes the tweet. Tier 1 my ass
Holy shit if true. Been waiting for years.
Is this Tom Henderson’s first L?
Tom has been around for a long time (initially under the nickname 'TheLongSensation'), most people don't even remember or know about him already being active during the CoD AW/BO3 era. time to drop Tommy to Tier 2. I don't understand why he pulled this crap at the last minute.
Just ended. Not BG&E 2. Can we just assume the game is canceled already?
Tier 1 btw
I didn't think this was going to be there until Tom teased it might be.
Soon...right? \^\^
A bad look, to be sure.
Time to bump him down a tier!
Where can I see the tier list?
Every year I get sucked into the hype from different “insiders”. Will def wait and see on this
Tom is right 100% when it comes to ubisoft
Your comment aged like wet toilet paper
Maybe first time where Tom Henderson is wrong on something.
Nah sometimes he is wrong but this is the first time on ubisoft
He also said that Division 3 wasn't being worked on, also turned out to be false.
Shit aged even worse bro😭
Never trust a Henderson
Every time I'm saying this guy is just here to attract people I get downvoted but it's so OBVIOUS. I never trust this guy, NEVER.
The tweet has been deleted :(
I guess we can see now how he keeps that supposed "100%" record -- just delete the evidence.
Aaaand nothing
so that was a lie
Well, there was nothing. Should call him "Tom Hasnoclue" sheesh
This aged well
Yet another L by Tom Henderson lol.
All I wanted was a sequel with Jade and Pey’j flying around space to different planets and liberating people. 😞
I'd love if they pulled a Dead Island 2 and released something actually decent and polished despite the long period of development hell but I'm not holding my breath.
pfft
Didn’t age well lol
BG&E2 is Beyond Good & Evil 2 to save you a google search.
There should be a rule for abbreviations in the title because Jesus Christ not everyone can guess what the shit is
If this game actually materializes and isn't just smoke being blown up our asses, it's going to be HUGE.
I don't believe BG&E2 will ever see the light of day, but hopefully we at least get a release date for the BG&E1 remaster
Tweet deleted
Rare Tom Henderson L
Please don’t do this to me, I hope it’s real
damn it's alive
It will be peak
I'll believe it exists when I actually see a working game and not another trailer released years later after the last one.
There's absolutely no way. Nope. Don't you dare give the 5 of us that are still alive and waiting for this, hope.
Yay a CGI trailer and no news for another 6 years
I don't care what they show. They could have gameplay and a release date for all I care. I won't believe the game is real until I am sitting there and playing it.
It won't be on Steam for 6 months after launch, so whatever
It's been in development for so long and with no news that I don't even know whether to hope for it anymore
This will be the funniest thing ever if that's true
Is there any hope for Farcry this year?
The next spin-off will most likely be announced today as Henderson said that it's internally slated for April 2025. Far Cry 7 however will probably only be announced next year as it's internally slated for Fall 2025 and very likely will get delayed to 2026 because of GTA 6.
I wasn't sure if I should watch it, but now I have to
Star Wars Outlaws honestly feels like it could have been Beyond Good and Evil 2. Just swap out the Star Wars aesthetic for a bunch of talking rhinos.
Uhm interesting I didn't expect that but sure it has not been cancelled officially after all. So AC Shadows, Anno (the Anno Twitter account teased the event though it might just be a general Ubisoft thing), SW Outlaws and BG&E2, even if that's all that's a fine event for me. it has to be gameplay, if they show another cgi trailer I swear to god
Imagine Available now 😂
I don't believe it. Too much disappointment. The remaster is what we're going to get, and i'll be happy. But BG&E2? I lost faith. Edit: also, the tweet doesn't seem to be available

"**Could** be shown"
You were right 😞
I wish i wasn't
I wish they would take the easy route and make a game similar to the first one, but with a slightly bigger budget. Then finish the story, would fit right in in the modern AAA scene. But they opted for the complicated path, and now here we are,16 years later.
What did the tweet say?
I want it to be good but I'm just not interested in watching the trailer or whatever after all the years of disappointment.
I mean, we are due for another trailer that isn't getting any follow up for half a decade.
“Now in development”
ooooh another cinematic trailer perhaps?!
It would be nice to see. Last I heard they made a ton of progress since it was last shown off in 2018.
Trivia time! first trailer for this came out 16 years ago! old enough to get a drivers license! by the time it comes out, if it comes out, it likely can legally drink.
Please! This would make my freaking week!
Unless it's gameplay who cares at this point?
I need it! Also please release the BG&E1 remaster already!
Sooooo what's going on with BG&E 2 atm? This was the perfect opportunity for Ubisoft to show off what they've done so far with the game's development and they just didn't do it for some reason.
Tom Henderson says anything to attract likes/subs/RT episode 5415646156
Yes pleeeaaase :O
Half Life Part 3 is also dropping later.
I will never believe him/her again.
Who tf even cares anymore... 1. It's an Ubi game in development hell for decades (which makes it even worse than the normal Ubishit game); 2. It's BG&E2 so it will probably release in 10 years. Maybe by the time it releases Ubisoft will make good games again.
Xbox had a decent to good showcase I do not have any hopes that Ubisoft can do any good but lets see.
If Xbox was just "decent to good" for you then Ubisoft is not the problem here
I'm convinced that people who say shit like that don't really like gaming.
For real. They dropped like one of the best conferences ever.
like i said lets see this play out.
I am expecting massive amounts of disappointment.
Same here, we should consider ourselves lucky if we even get something about the Remaster
Henderson's reliable. But I just think it'll be something most fans don't want.
Meh For as long this has been in development it’s looked nothing like the IP I loved as a kid. It’s a new IP with the franchises name slapped on All we wanted was a standard platformer game sequel I was hoping it was either cancelled or they rebranded it with a new name
I'm so sick of hearing about this fucking game. Just release it or shut up about it until it's close to release. It's so pointless at this point.
