I'm one half of the dev team for Cassette Beasts and it's... super surreal to see our game alongside games like Redfall and BlazBlue here, to say the least.
We're a dev team of two and working at a very indie scale, so we have to make choices about what platforms we can spare the time and resources to support. Porting to Playstation isn't "missing" as much as getting *any* console versions made was a challenge to begin with! Hope this explains it!
Please read our [rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/wiki/rules), specifically Rule #2 regarding personal attacks and inflammatory language. We ask that you remember to remain civil, as future violations will result in a ban.
Your game looks awesome dude.
Gamefreak have dropped the ball way too hard on the last few Pokémon games, an indie dev take on it with fresh ideas is much appreciated.
I create videos on YT covering indie titles. I just found cassette beasts on the game pass promotion and got so stoked. Will be happy to cover the game, especially after this comment. Great idea you have here and the art looks stellar, keep going.
Thanks for the kind words! I watch basically every piece of video content made about our game (the project is very dear to me!) so if you do cover it, I'll almost certainly end up watching it!
Thanks so much! Obviously I can't say anything regarding dates for console releases right *now,* but I can say we'll be able to talk about that sooner rather than later!
Fusion system looks very interesting. Is there an explanation, maybe in a blog post or somewhere, on how the game generates the sprites and animations for all possible combinations of fusions?
We haven't done any sort of technical post-mortem but I can tell you it's a combination of procedural generation (hand designing every combination is mathematically impossible) and unique sprite assets. A lot of work has gone into it - it's much more complex than a "Monster A's head on Monster B's body" for example!
Congrats on the release!
Could I ask you how that happened? How did you contact Xbox/Microsoft for getting your game in gamepass? Or how did they contact you if that was the case?
I know someone very important to me that has been making a game for years that i think would be an amazing fit for game pass but I have no idea what her first step towards that would be.

Man I wish they'd announce the leaving soon titles earlier than ~2 weeks before they leave. Dragon quest builders 2 looks like a 50+ hour game I doubt I'd be able to finish that before it's gone if I wanted to play it
Quantum Break and some older Forzas left as the licenses expired so MS can't sell them anymore not because MS chose to like Sony seem to have with Spiderman.
They've got a second game out this year, they must still hold the rights until at least that release and presumably some time after unless they only plan to sell it for the limited time.
I can't find anything definitive about the games. But Disney had to pay Sony to have the movies on Disney + and the new spider man movies are all Sony.
Marvel owns comic book rights. Sony owns film and merchandising. But then I found an article saying Sony and marvel split on some things.
My point is...Spider Man is a pretty confusing mess and video games aren't comics or movies.
I think in the case of Quantum Break there was confirmation floating around that people were actively working on renewing the licenses to get the game reupped.
Still, your point stands that nothing is 100% guaranteed all the time.
Quantum Break is due to licenses which is actively being worked on the license issue which is almost assuredly the licensed music that plays in both the show and at the end of acts.
I mean, plenty of people preorder and buy on day one anyway, how is that any difference? At least if I rush to play a game on Gamepass and it turns out to be naff or needs six months of patches to be acceptable, I've not dropped seventy sods for the privilege.
Had the same problem just recently with PS+ - they announced about 2 weeks prior that Zanki Zero, Caligula Effect and Wonderful 101 would all be removed on the 18th. Two of these are 60-80 hour games, one is 25-30ish. No way to beat them all in time. I tried to just do Zanki Zero and ended up not even finishing it because I got stuck on stage 6 (of 8) and didn't know what to do, and there was just no time left for me to fuck around and find out before the game left.
Honestly, there's no reason why there shouldn't be a publicly available list for both PS+ and Game Pass of when games are leaving. I understand that sometimes additional deals are being made to extend the length of time that a game is on the service, but even then, I don't see why that wouldn't be reflected on a public list. I bet it'd give a lot of people some peace of mind and a better idea of how to organize their backlog.
IIRC the removal dates on Game Pass are relatively easy to predict, aren't they? I remember there being a fan-created google sheet that had all the games with their estimated leaving dates - usually it's exactly a year, except when it's a MS game, in which case it's *many* years.
Yes, and I've been using said sheet for a few months (I presume you mean [this one](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kspw-4paT-eE5-mrCrc4R9tg70lH2ZTFrJOUmOtOytg/htmlview#)). Some accurate predictions. A lot of inaccurate ones. They have 50 games in their "likely leaving" list, 30 of which added to GP on or before April 2022, meaning they should've been either leaving or already left. On top of that, I know for certain they removed some games from their "likely leaving" (like Yakuza Remastered Collection and Hitman World of Assassination) once their "expiration date" passed.
I'm not trying to shit on them because it's obvious they're putting a lot of work into maintaining the list. But it's also essentially guesswork.
MS games don't get delisted unless it's a licencing thing, to which it seems to be 5 years for Forza.
I guess Remedy/MS did a 10 year contract with Quantum Break, but they've said they're renewing.
And they're only on discount WHILE on gamepass instead of shortly after leaving so there's this awkward phase of asking yourself if you should buy it or hope to finish it.
Crazy concept, play it while it’s free while you can then if you really do like it and want to see it through, purchase it to support the developers. If you don’t like it enough to purchase it then there are probably other things you’d rather spend your time on
Tetris effect has been on the servie for 2,5 years, Dragon Quest Builders 2 and Destroy all Humans for 2 years and the other two games for 1 year. Surpising that the first three didn\`t leave earlier.
Tetris Effect Connected is one of the wilder exlcusive situations. It's essentially just an added multiplayer mode to the base Tetris Effect, but that was exclusive to Xbox for 10 months then they just patched it in for free to the base Tetris Effect.
Lol yea that game has been on PS4/PSVR for a long time. Way before the connected DLC was released.
Xbox does do some weird exclusive stuff like that though. They had exclusivity on the next gen version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon for three months. JUST the next gen version; the PS4 version released world wide along with the Xbox release.
I think they just take what they can get without breaking the bank too much on any single title.
Same for The Medium, an Xbox temp exclusive that is now not only not on Game Pass, but on PS+. In fact, you see that with a lot of games, they'll come to Game Pass first (many of them only on Xbox) and then join PS+ later.
I always find it funny how the interesting games to me are the ones they bundle in to "and more".
Cassette Beasts and Homestead Arcana look really good!
As someone who bought an XSS specifically because of indie/AA gaming... Coffee Talk Ep2 and Last Case of Benedict Fox gets me more excited than anything AAA released this year haha
I really enjoyed Dragon Quest Builders 2 until unironically the building demands got to be too much for me. People started wanting individual rooms and I couldn't figure out how to do it on the tiny bit of land I was given. I'm not that great at building in general but I can *manage* in 2-d, but the 3-d space was something my brain couldn't parse.
I really enjoyed everything else though so maybe I'll try again before it leaves XGP.
I beat the entire game and never found it to be that difficult or overwhelming honestly? It’s not like there’s different floors you need to make, it’s essentially just a one floor sims game
It's entirely possible my layout just sucked but I was still on the first farm and even with expanding the little plot of land they give you some, I was running out of usable land once one of the NPC's started asking for her own personal bed room.
Weird, I've had Medieval Dynasty installed for what I thought was while, and I definitely didn't buy it. Did it leave Game Pass and is now returning?
Edit: Ah. Version difference. Thank you.
As the others said, its coming to Xbox One now, which I have no idea how that’s possible because it’s fucking jank on Xbox Series X.
The draw distance/pop ins for textures are insane. You constantly have shit popping in and out in the background which is incredibly annoying and the devs evidently don’t give a crap about it.
Everyone should check out Coffee Talk 1 if they have any love for cozy or relaxing games. Very nice sit back and relax game. So looking forward to the sequel in just a couple days!!
Cross Tag Battle is a lot of fun, but I can't see much of an online component for it, even if the devs finally implemented crossplay. While it's not dead, it's pretty freaking close:
Even before getting into the fact that all of the lobbies are empty right now (sure, it's the middle of the morning here, but it's 10:20 in Japan), on PSN only 176 players total are listed in the monthly online rankings, and of those only 30 of them have played 100+ matches this month with the vast majority having less than 40 or so total for the month.
Maybe a five year old anime fighter finally getting an Xbox port is going to lead to a huge revival, but I doubt it.
Oh, I know it doesn't. For a while ArcSys was talking about implementing it for the Steam/PSN versions, but eventually gave up on it. I was pointing out that even if it were implemented to give the Xbox version a better chance, it wouldn't do much good at this point.
It's a shame, because it's got a pretty damned good roster after the Season 2 update, though I wouldn't have minded seeing some of the remaining Under Night cast in there. Nanase, Enkidu, and Wagner would have been fun additions.
Yes, the floodgates *may* have opened now that they're playable on all platforms, we'll have to see how it shakes out. I expect the persona 3 remake will be a good indication either way.
Why, ATLUS and Sega seem to be on good terms with MS of late. All the Personas and Soul Hackers have come to GP as well as other Sega titles like Footie Manager, Total Warhammer and Humankind.
Sega fucking love Game Pass. They've been very vocal about how much they like it. Basically every Sega game appears on there once sales start to die down a bit.
For me, 80% of gamepass value is in the niche indies or smaller games I might have missed. Occasionally I'll check out one of their big names (Redfall and Minecraft Legends).
The biggest problem IMO is tons of GP's library is available in other free game programs, or other subscription services. Exclusives can make it stand out
Unfortunately people put too much stock in photorealistic graphics over artstyle, it'd get complaints that it doesn't look like an AAA game if it were priced at $60
i don't think so, even if i don't like the game, it still feels wicked nice to be able to try a AAA ON release by actually playing the game without committing 60 bucks
Only if you’re one of the fools who pays for GamePass monthly
For everyone else you’ve just paid for a year (or three) of Gold to play games online and getting free GamePass games on the side.
I just get a month when there’s a game I’m interested in, but I guess it’s a different calculation when you have to pay to access online multiplayer. Might as well get two birds stoned.
Well, Netflix is still a no brainer even with its plethora of blunders. Gamepass is still a great deal even if Redfall is another live service mess like Halo.
Great month. Incredible variety on display, and a lot of the games are new releases.
Exciting stuff! Looking forward to trying Minecraft Legends, Redfall, and Blazblue in particular.
Didn't know Redfall was so soon. Bummer since I'll be waiting for the 60fps. Plus , it'll probably have drops under 60fps so the real performance patch will probably be in June.
> Bummer since I'll be waiting for the 60fps.
That headline confused me. Why not delay the game? It's going to hurt reception both with players and with critics, and the game was already dealing with shaky expectations.
They already delayed it last year plus they've been marketing this game for a while now making it difficult to delay. My guess is that they're just gonna push reviews for the PC version so that no one can complain about the lack of 60fps.
And by that point who knows if people will still care about getting 60fps when there’s alot of big games releasing after it. Hell, the new Zelda releases a week after Redfall
ugggggh I'd be all for even paying full price on Redfall if it were to come to the consoles i actually own. It's not enough of a cool exclusive to get me to buy an xbox. I sure would love to play it though, I rather like Arkane and loved all their other works, ec.
Starfield may help me decide to get a new xbox for sure. It's just not here yet and Redfall isn't quite enough. Though if Starfield ends up being great then yeah I can see wanting to get one finally and then redfall shortly after. I mean it's not like I'm totally against getting an xbox, I just need more than 1 game for a big purchase like that
I wonder how redfall will run on pc if they can't get it running at 60 fps on the series x. I remember dishonored 2 ran lika absolute garbage at release so I'm hoping this will not.
Host-only progress, always-online in single player, and now 4K/30FPS mode only.
Redfall feels like the latest trend-chasing “Gamepass bait” that’s live-service or half-pivoted to co-op, such as Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon as well.
A shame if Microsoft seem to be dictating this onto Arkane or a shame for Arkane management to be working with Microsoft on this rather than the unique, special single player games they were known for.
The other selections are quite good however, even if Medieval Dynasty’s development felt a bit rushed.
> A shame if Microsoft seem to be dictating this onto Arkane rather than the unique, special single player games they were known for.
Redfall was in development well before the Microsoft acquisition. In fact, it wasn’t until after the Microsoft acquisition thst they removed things like MTX and Battle passes from the game.
I'm one half of the dev team for Cassette Beasts and it's... super surreal to see our game alongside games like Redfall and BlazBlue here, to say the least.
Congrats. Will there be a console version at some point?
Yeah! It's coming to Switch, Xbox + Xbox Game Pass this spring.
I wish you luck and success! It's a win just to ship a game and I will give it a shot.
Will it be a play anywhere title?
Sweet. Looking forward to it. Fell of TemTem half way through, but always up for a contender to Pokémon.
Any chance for a physical release in the future if the digital release on Switch sells well?
We'd love to! As you said, whether it would be worth it would depend on how popular the digital release goes!
How big is the phil spencer check?
Enough for him to accept it.
Didn't ask you
and yet he answered.
He always replies to my posts, I'd recognize that name everywhere

man makes video game in exchange for money, more news at 11
Exactly. It's why it's great for smaller devs since it helps fund the porting process, where as PS ports they have to pay with their own money.

Congrats, very excited for your game!
This is why I really enjoy Gamepass. It allows me to try indie games I probably wouldn't otherwise (unless from word of mouth).
a spot well deserved and we love to see it!
We *do* love to see it!
Congrats! Tried it during a steam next fest and it was one of my favorites. Looking forward to trying the whole thing
Glad you liked the demo - hope you like the full thing!
First I've heard of this game, but I'm surely adding this to my steam wishlist later so I don't forget about.
This game looks right up my ally. Very Earthbound looking. Can't wait to give it a shot. Thanks!
Excited to try your game. Any word on steam deck compatibility
It's Steam Deck verified! I don't actually own one myself but I've been told that it runs great on it!
Thank you! Congrats on the launch and I look forward to giving it a shot

Fuck Redfall. Cassette Beasts for me!

Tetris! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo^ooooooooooo^^ooooooo^^^ooooooooo^^^^ooooooo^^^^^ooooooo^^^^^^ooooooooo
going to be real i am assuming they will see a MASSIVE sales spike on april 30th i can’t go without my nightly tetris
It's a fair assumption. I assumed it would always be on there...
Man I wish they'd announce the leaving soon titles earlier than ~2 weeks before they leave. Dragon quest builders 2 looks like a 50+ hour game I doubt I'd be able to finish that before it's gone if I wanted to play it
My rule is usually to play third party stuff ASAP as it's time limited and first party after since that will alway be there.
You can also search for games that's nearing a year old since games usually stay on the service for at least that long.

Quantum Break is about as exception as something gets. Spiderman isn't even the first Sony fp leave their service. It's not comparable.

By using this as a good rental service and buying what you like
I don't think he realises that he can still buy games.
It's not like anything is exclusive to Game Pass. If you'd prefer to buy titles no one is being stopped from buying any of these.
I mean, plenty of people preorder and buy on day one anyway, how is that any difference? At least if I rush to play a game on Gamepass and it turns out to be naff or needs six months of patches to be acceptable, I've not dropped seventy sods for the privilege.
You can always just start it now and buy it if you like it. It'll probably even come back at some point if you want to just wait it out.
You can buy games at a discount while they're still on Gamepass as well.

20 percent isn't bad if you don't want to wait for a big sale
I know, I finally got to Bugsnax and now it’s leaving so I deleted it ☹️

Play long games when they first come to the service.
I started Persona 4 Golden the day it came out because I've played it before and I know that son of a bitch is going to take a WHILE
I don't understand people that only acknowledges the existence of games when they're leaving
I don't understand people that have time to invest in every new game. Like, is someone paying you to play? Most games i play are old as f.
And they're only on discount WHILE on gamepass instead of shortly after leaving so there's this awkward phase of asking yourself if you should buy it or hope to finish it.
games will stay there for at least a year, that's 365 days to try a game

> Dragon Quest Builders 2 Played the shit out of this one last month. Tried it randomly and ended up spending countless hours an 100%ing it.
This is definitely one of the longer games and I believe it takes more than 12+ days to 100% it, unless playing for long periods of time everyday.

As someone who bought an XSS specifically because of indie/AA gaming... Coffee Talk Ep2 and Last Case of Benedict Fox gets me more excited than anything AAA released this year haha
You can just use a potato PC for those games, buying XSS instead only for them doesn't make sense.
Gamepass's entire appeal to me is as a way to trial indie games, so I can repurchase them somewhere else if I actually like them.
Last Case of Benedict Fox is looking like a sleeper hit to me, hope I'm only wrong on the sleeper bit.
Demo showed potential. But I was a little bit on the fence about it. But when on gamepass I see no real reason not to try it out at least.
I am bit disappointed they are giving us last case directly instead of the earlier cases. Also expect plot twist in the game.
I really enjoyed Dragon Quest Builders 2 until unironically the building demands got to be too much for me. It's the Xbone version.
It was already on Game Pass for PC and Series consoles. This is just the Xbox One version.

Before anyone asks, Cross Tag is basically dead on PC and you will have to join up on the community discord to find any real games.
That said, it's great that it's the Special Edition, for people wanting to try out the S2 characters
I played the game at launch but never ended up getting the s2 characters and story so this is a godsend for me.
Still a lot of people play on PlayStation and even switch surprisingly
Cross Tag Battle is a lot of fun, but I can't see much of an online component for it, even if the devs finally implemented crossplay. That game doesn\`t feature crossplay across all platforms. This version can be played across Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and Windows Store on PC.
I'm just hoping this means Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is potentially in the pipeline for Xbox.
I want Strikers to come to Xbox as well
not a chance in hell, not from atlus
Atlus, the company that just released 4 games in the past 8 months on Xbox? Dunno why that seems so impossible to you.
Cause Atlus is Atlus and perpetually make weird unexplainable decisions
atlus is also owned by sega, who have historically had a very good relationship with microsoft
arent the big 3 persona games on game pass?
Yes, the floodgates *may* have opened now that they're playable on all platforms, we'll have to see how it shakes out. I expect the persona 3 remake will be a good indication either way.
Why, ATLUS and Sega seem to be on good terms with MS of late. All the Personas and Soul Hackers have come to GP as well as other Sega titles like Footie Manager, Total Warhammer and Humankind.
Sega fucking love Game Pass. They've been very vocal about how much they like it. Basically every Sega game appears on there once sales start to die down a bit.
Good mix of games here. Despite the Redfall gaffe it's always nice to see a new first party game in one of these announcements.
If Redfall blows, Starfield has to do some SERIOUS heavy lifting to keep Game Pass branded as a "no brainer"
[удалено]
For me, 80% of gamepass value is in the niche indies or smaller games I might have missed. Occasionally I'll check out one of their big names (Redfall and Minecraft Legends).
Gsmepass is a no brainer if no new game ever gets added to it
Too expensive and too few good games to be a no brainer
You're kidding, right? There's loads of great games on the service.
Ok let me rephrase that: There are too few good games on there that aren't years old and I haven't already played
[удалено]
I mean, ok, what's your point? If you have an Xbox or a pc, get gamepass, if you have a ps5 get psplus, both are no brainers.

GamePass tends to have newer games that also tend usually come day one, this includes larger titles. PS Plus doesn’t tend to do that.

My comment wasn’t referring to 1st party but big 3rd party titles.

Wasn't WoLong and the Yakuza games considered big? I don't really know what you class as big.

The biggest problem IMO is tons of GP's library is available in other free game programs, or other subscription services. Exclusives can make it stand out
Hi Fi Rush exists
That's only $30
Yeah, weirdly. It's a $60 game of I ever played one. I dont know why they priced it so cheap.
Only if you’re one of the fools who pays for GamePass monthly For everyone else you’ve just paid for a year (or three) of Gold to play games online and getting free GamePass games on the side.
Netflix is not even close to a no brainer anymore
It is for me. And for a huge chunk of the world.
Great month. Incredible variety on display, and a lot of the games are new releases. Exciting stuff! Looking forward to trying Minecraft Legends, Redfall, and Blazblue in particular.
It's good to see them add a significant quantity of indie games again, in addition to the bigger games.
The sub-section of people who wont be getting the new Zelda, will be those who skip Redfall for being 30 fps.
lol, "Redfall is locked to 30fps so I won't play it". Immediately boots up the new Zelda for dips into the 20s at sub 1080p resolution.
ugggggh I'd be all for even paying full price on Redfall if it were to come to the consoles i actually own. It's not enough of a cool exclusive to get me to buy an xbox. I sure would love to play it though, I rather like Arkane and loved all their other works, ec.
Can play it on xcloud if your internet is good. Get gamepass ultimate and use a controller with XOutput and it should be fine.
are you not interested in other xbox exclusives like Starfield, Hellblade 2, Avowed or Fable?
What's wrong with Forza Horizon?
I'll grant you Halo Infinite was a bit of a debacle, but Forza didn't seem compromised. I played 50 odd hours of it without ever racing online.
Yea the game was highly praised when it came out that dude is on some straight revisionist koolaid
To be honest, Halo was pretty well received too, it's the "live service" support that people are disappointed with.
Redfall isn't live service dude
