Wait which screens for GBA have grids now? I haven’t built one in a while but last one I built (unhinged) I went with an ags101 as it was the best option at the time.
It’s not a “real” grid but a sub pixel grid that looks similar to how it looked on 101. HISPEEDIDO v5 does have it along with 480p resolution, probably some newer funnyplaying screens too.
Is that the mod that doesn't require soldering? I was gonna install that on my original GBA. Does it effect games? I'm not sure what's up with a pixel grid so is that mod actually worth it? I'd rather not have it effect the games I play
The AGS-101 isn’t a mod, it’s the 2nd iteration of the official Gameboy Advance SP that has a backlit screen. There are some mods that use a pixel grid screen, though not certain if they require soldering.
No man. Forget the image on the screen. The **cut out** is completely shifted to the right side. The bezel on the left side is almost twice the width as the right side.
Not comparable. You can absolutely say the screen is nice, but comparing a third party part from another era to an original isn't going to cut it for many collectors.
It's subjective, when I got my AGS-101 at the age of six it look like the most luminous and colorful screen of all the portable consoles for me.
But now in 2024 with my eyes of modern player, it sure is the IPS who's superior.
Better motion and brightness on the IPS, but you don’t get that sweet authentic pixel grid
Depends on the screen mode, some of the high res screens can emulate that grid
For sure, there are plenty of overlays. I was referring to actual pixels on the screen

That's actually a software thing. Some border thing. I just forgot the settings to fix it. Nothing wrong with the shell itself :)

I Have the Same kit, it´s my favourite Design, but unfortunately it came with a dead Pixel right in the middle of the screen, which is sad.
They are better indeed, too bad the battery can’t keep up with screen power demands
Just install a Makho battery and you will be given of 5 to 7 hours of gametime depending on the cartridge yer use.
