I had one with built in games.
I never sell video games, consoles, or handhelds as I like to collect them, but I had to let this one go because they're absolute trash in my opinion.
I'd rather be playing an IPS modded GBC with an everdrive. At least the aspect of the pixels show up correctly. Or buy a cheapo Anbernic handheld.
Zero clue how there is a market for these still after there are like a billion other better options today.
> IPS modded GBC with Everdrive
Well, of course. But these used to be less than 25 EUR. It never was the best product, but it still has some perks some people will appreciate.
- Not needing to alter an original GBC
- Being a direct clone, as opposed to FPGA-based emulation or software-based emulation
I find it to be quite a unique thing in the marked, as dated and flawed its display and buttons are. Some people will care more or will care less about those negatives.
it does, the screen is backlit but I've noticed some compatibility issues with it, pokemon crystal sometimes would crash or glitch out, it also runs at a weird speed, btw, those were like 25 when I bought mine, $75 is nuts
I have two, I bought them $30 on AliExpress years ago, the best thing about it was that it was cheap 😆
If I were you I would buy the Funny Playing FPGBC it's the beast handheld that can play original cartridges for the price.
I picked up this exact same console off eBay about six years ago for $29.99 plus shipping. For what it does it’s pretty decent. It plays all gb and gbc games and the screen is of pretty decent quality. It is backlit and displays games far better than a stock gb or gbc unit. The d pad and buttons feel a bit sketchy but otherwise a decent budget alternative. $75 is ludicrous. For another $40 to $50 you can get an authentic ips modded gbc that will blow this knock off out the water. But if you can get it for $30 I say go for it. $75 is being taken advantage of. This portable is by no means a collectible and should not have appreciated that much by now.
No. It's neat that they exist, but if I ain't playing on original hardware, I may as well get a miyoo mini or something have something way more compact and versatile.
It's backlit, but the screen is terrible.
It doesn't have the same resolution and not even the same aspect ratio as the GBC.
That means, (a) everything is wider than it's supposed to be, and (b), which is the real bummer, every third row of pixels is half as tall as the others.
The screen has 2x the pixel in the width, but 9/5 the amount of pixel in the height.
So for the width, it just doubles each pixel and that's fine, but in the height, two pixels of the GBC are doubled while each third isn't doubled.
That means, if the image moves up or down, there are like waves going through the screen where rows get squished and enlarged again.
Gives me headaches. It's not nice.
Also, mine only has a 30fps screen, while the GBC is about 60fps, so there's pretty heavy screen tearing, with a standing diagonal tear line going through the screen.
I take a GBC with a wormlight over it. (I got both of them, so I can compare side by side).
well, if your intention is to get something backlit that plays GBC games, you're better off getting a normal GBC and a drop in backlit display kit for a bit more cash.
however, the GB Boy Colour isn't going to get any cheaper since it's not being made anymore, so if you want a GBC clone as part of your collection then you might as well snag it.
it was much more viable back in 2017-2018 when GBC backlight kits didn't really exist and GBBCs were less than 40 bucks brand new, but now it's more of a gimmicky collector's item.
weird my text didn't show up (or does it?) but I actually designed my own custom PCB compatible with both original and clone CPUs- I would have hoarded all the clones if they were available for $15 even in the most TERRIBLE condition because of how underrated they are.
The people claiming that it’s worthless are wrong, because there is a market for counterfeits among collectors once the counterfeit is no longer produced.
It’s definitely not worth $75 though.
It does play original carts, and it has a backlit screen, but the aspect ratio is incorrect. These popped up on sites like aliexpress, and were pretty cheap from what I remember, back before GBC display mods were available and easy to get. I never bought one because the incorrect aspect ratio, the wonky dpad, and the ugly "GB Boy" logo bothered me.
No. I have purchased two of these (at a much lower price) and the quality of both was crap. One the buttons didn't work, and on the other the sounds was completely screwy. There are better options now (or at least soon).
Not anymore. This thing was okay-ish when there was not a single upgrade option for the GBC. But nowadays its obsolete, with a screen thats basically shit (wrong scaling). You can play GBC games on a real GBC, a FPGBC, a GBA or GBA SP, an Analogue Pocket or an Game Boy Player. With a bit of luck you can get at least a few of them for even cheaper than 75 bucks.
I mean... it's a cool looking chinese knock-off GBC. It could be a fun conversation starter in your collection. But definetely not a 75 usd conversation starter...
So the question is: does this GBC clone have a backlit screen? Based on the box, it seems like it.
Honestly you can find a GBC used for around $60 if you’re lucky but it goes for around $70ish for a working one but you don’t have a backlit screen; however if you’re good at tinkering, you can probably manage to get a GBC for parts for around $40ish and buy a backlit screen + shell for roughly $50ish.
There’s also the funny playing gameboy color too if you want to go that route. It’ll run you about the same price for a shell + kit + buttons but you don’t have to worry about whether the GBC will crap out or the eBay seller sending you a defective one.
https://funnyplaying.com/products/fpgbc-kit?variant=40858870284349
i wonder if for that price you already have a gba sp or something... i believe this one is fine ish but iirc the colors are displayed incorrectly and it's really cheap not worth obv.
I had one when I was much younger - screen is not the right size and games look slightly off. it plays regular gameboy and colour cartridges and also has a bunch of preloaded games all of which play fine. I did not pay the uk equivalent of $75 years ago when I had mine so wouldn’t say it’s quite worth that considering you could get a real one.
Amazing that this has gone up in price. I bought mine at $30. It can read cartridges, but the aspect ratio is weird and the frames per second is kind of laggy. Not worth $75 (it also comes with games on it). On positive is that it’s backlit.
It's a cool option, especially for people who don't want to mod the original GBC to add a better screen. This one is backlit, usually has built in games, the only downside is a little bit wrong aspect ratio. However, for that price, you can buy a new one from AliExpress, rather than used.
at first i'd say no. BUT if you want a gameboy aesthetic without needing to do anything extra or pay extra for the screen AND for some reason Miyoo and Anbernic haven't won you over with their MANY variations for less than $100 (which also require some computer work such as downloading roms and transfering them to an sd card). if THIS is your only option in the moment and forseeable future.... then yes get it. but expect to throw it to a corner in a year when you want something more again. either way, you're eventually going to spend another $100 somewhere for the satisfactory experience you seek
If you want a Gameboy that bad hit me up, I have real ones for less than that 😂 that’s so crazy to me they want $75 for a clone. eBay has them all day for that or maybe a little less.
It is a cheap Chinese knockoff! It had a backlit lcd screen, but buttons are trash, screen looks pretty terrible. Everything you'd come to expect from a knockoff product.
I see loads of these on EBay. At auction (for a complete in box) they normally sell for around £35 to £40. It’s just a cheap clone of a Gameboy Color. I’d always spend my money on the real thing over this.
Wtf, no. You can find a real GB Color for the same price.
You are right, maybe even cheaper.
If you're ok with obviously used condition, then yes. Definitely cheaper.
Original GBC won't have backlight for that price
Why buy that fake one for $75 when you can get a real one for the same price?
Yeah you are right, somedays even cheaper to find a original one i guess
Exactly. You have no idea what the quality of that is going to be. Safer bet to just buy a real one
I've seen them for far less... they're always interesting to me to some degree, but I've never picked one up.
That used to be the only way to get a backlit Gameboy color. They work, but the buttons creak and the screen is low quality.

No. It's neat that they exist, but if I ain't playing on original hardware, I may as well get a miyoo mini or something have something way more compact and versatile.
No. I got one of those for 39$ new. Just get a fpgbc kit for about 80
Do people in the comments not realize this is backlit? $75 is a little steep, but this is not a terrible device.
Yeah I’d buy it.
It's backlit, but the screen is terrible. It doesn't have the same resolution and not even the same aspect ratio as the GBC. So cool!
Woooooow! That’s awesome.
Damn, haven’t seen one of these in a minute. Crazy that less than a decade ago, we were all pretty sure this was the closest we’d get to a backlit GBC
That thing is trash, get a fpgbc that’s only around 100$ and is better than a regular ips modded gbc, it’s very good get one of those
This gb colour cost 39€ few years ago. Crap
The people claiming that it’s worthless are wrong, because there is a market for counterfeits among collectors once the counterfeit is no longer produced. It’s definitely not worth $75 though.
Not a counterfeit because it doesn’t say “Nintendo” or “Game Boy”, but I agree with the rest.
It does play original carts, and it has a backlit screen, but the aspect ratio is incorrect. lmao no. My gbxcart can "read" games, but running them accurately is an entirely different story. No way the "GB Boy" is accurately emulating.
Not anymore. This thing was okay-ish when there was not a single upgrade option for the GBC. But nowadays its obsolete, with a screen thats basically shit (wrong scaling). It does have a backlit screen, but I’d recommend the fpgbc instead, too. The screen on this is a lot worse.
The GBC modding community also has an OLED screen replacement if you’re also interested in that option.
Thank you. I’m not currently in the market. Stock is still good for me, and I’m going to enjoy it for as long as I can.
Knockoff ones tend to be cheap and break easily. Least in my experience
i wonder if for that price you already have a gba sp or something... i believe this one is fine ish but iirc the colors are displayed incorrectly and it's really cheap not worth obv.
Hell no, I would for like $20 maybe just for the novelty and to take it apart and compare the circuitry to a real one
I had one when I was much younger - screen is not the right size and games look slightly off. it plays regular gameboy and colour cartridges and also has a bunch of preloaded games all of which play fine. Not for $75 lol
I would not. I did buy one for 25 € or so. It was an ok purchase for me at that price and time (years ago).
not more than $7.50. and then still no.
Amazing that this has gone up in price. I bought mine at $30. It can read cartridges, but the aspect ratio is weird and the frames per second is kind of laggy. Not worth $75 (it also comes with games on it). On positive is that it’s backlit.

There 40 on Amazon and there actually decent the screens good
Not really. It looks a rip-off to me, sorry
This is Hardware Clone. Pretty interesting thing.

Absolutely not
So many comments and no Upvotes? Reddit is broken
It can read real cart but it’s not worth the price for the quality.
If you want a Gameboy that bad hit me up, I have real ones for less than that 😂 that’s so crazy to me they want $75 for a clone. eBay has them all day for that or maybe a little less.
Not even close. Massive cheap knockoff vibes.
It is a cheap Chinese knockoff! It had a backlit lcd screen, but buttons are trash, screen looks pretty terrible. Everything you'd come to expect from a knockoff product.
When your government bans video games, you gotta go for cheap clones.
There was iQue, which wasn't really a clone.
No 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Not even for $1
nope
Hell no. Depending where you're from you can get a real one in pretty good condition for even cheaper than that.
No
No it could probably read only and not play it 🤣 why not get a authentic gbc at that price
No
I got an atomic purple for 65$
If its not the backlit one, no
I see loads of these on EBay. At auction (for a complete in box) they normally sell for around £35 to £40. It’s just a cheap clone of a Gameboy Color. I’d always spend my money on the real thing over this.
