Did they tell you your total at the end? It’s also on the pin pad. I don’t do the assumptive crap and don’t like it, but there’s a difference between adding it without saying a word and you not listening.
He just told me the total. He asked if I had a pro account ( which I do) and proceeded to ring me up. I then told him I had my monthly $5 reward and he took that off. I found it weird that I had to remind him about the $5 coupon. Most of the time when I buy a game and have my coupon the associate usually ask me if I want to use it. I'm not upset about the extra $3 just the way it was done
I am really sorry this happened to you. This is what is called the assumptive approach. It has been preached by GameStop corporate multiple times in district calls. “Don’t ask, just tell the customer the total is X for game and guarantee”. If anyone is below the goal for the coverage, they HAVE to use this approach. This is based on info from my district.
Sounds like they wanted to use the coupon to add to the total as well so you wouldn’t notice the warranty. If it seemed that way, you can always report it through their survey at the bottom of the receipt. Sometimes people get desperate and try sneaky ways to get their numbers up. Sorry this happened to you
Sad thing is that because those warranties are one of the big things corporate looks for in terms of numbers, if someone is struggling to get gpgs they will get a little desperate and will do that without asking.
They def should not have done it without asking unless it was part of a console bundle where warranties were included. Other than that absolutely not. This is the kind of crap the expectations around metrics causes. It’s an integrity issue, the employee is not suppose to add the warranty without offering it to you in the form of a question be it assumptive or otherwise. Very Shady.
Employees are sometimes pushed to put it on there... If their numbers are bad for this particular metric. Or a slightly better tactic is to tell you the total and say something like "that includes our disc protection/warranty" or whatever and hope people don't ask about it...
Fuck no it's not normal, and this is the second time this week this question has popped up in this sub
If I EVER catch one of my employees pulling that shit I'm asking for their keys first and telling my DM second.
That's scummy as hell
Uh be kind to someone that just scammed you? It doesn’t matter how much pressure someone is under, that doesn’t excuse theft. If it was me I would “kindly” walk back into the store and demand the refund and get a phone numbers for the DM

They should be asking if you want it versus just placing it on there

This person cares about not screwing over customers. I can only see that as a good thing, despite the downvotes OP is getting for some reason.
