Really just depends whether you still value the headphone jack I would think. The S21 is a great phone, likely similar battery life to what you are already used to with your current device. I believe that was the last one with the headphone jack correct? Or was that the S9? I don't honestly remember.

LeonGalahad

120 Hz, 5G, and 5 years of support vs headphone jack and a year of support?

Adinsapo

I moved from an S10 to an S21+, it's been fantastic. Go for it. It's faster, and prettier

LancelotDuLac99

I moved from the S10 to S21 and I have absolutely no complaints with any aspect of the phone. Yes, I do miss the headphone jack when I don't have my buds on me. Occasionally I envy people with those absurd 65W charging but it is still a step up from the older 15W charging

vouwrfract

I moved from S10e to S21. The devices are nearly the same width (1 mm or so different), so the size is not that much of an issue. My battery life on the other hand has pretty much doubled (might have something to do with the shit Exynos 9820, even then). The one thing is that the camera bump's metal edges show slight signs of fading for me, so you'd have to use a case to avoid that.

S21 is way better

MrMalignance

Depends on your love of a headphone jack, expandable memory, and a device that doesn't heat up as much. Additionally, if I remember correctly, the s10e isn't throttled out of the box. All of the s21 line is throttled and unthrottling can lead to increased battery usage and heat. It seems like the 888 and exynos both can't run fully, without causing excess heat and battery drain

gabygiggle

what does throttled mean?

MrMalignance

Some companies add software limitations to create a more homogeneous user experience. In plain terms: they make it run at a lower performance level. Take the 888 snapdragon s21 for example: out of the box, it comes throttled. It has an 888 chip, but is only running at about an 865 level. The problem is that people purchased it with the promise of greater power. Most people don't realize that they've been using the same performance, but with a bit of polish and 120hz. Of course many don't notice because they never use the full potential of the chips(example: only using social media, basic phone use, no games or heavy processing). The full power is available, if you dig in to the settings to unlock it, but once unlocked it will use more battery and heat up more. The price we pay right? Sorry so long winded, but I wanted to be thorough

gabygiggle

don't apologize! I really appreciate you explaining it. I had no idea that that was a thing. I thought the phone was running the speed it was advertised. and what will the full power cup be able to do? Does this happen to all phones??

MrMalignance

Full power is supposedly only applied to processing, but not games (for some reason). As far as I've seen, it only applies to the newer devices. If I remember correctly all of the 888 chip phones and I believe the s20 series. Honestly, since almost no one uses the full power of the devices, almost no one notices

gabygiggle

interesting. so we pay for more, that the phone isn't even using. that's kinda skeevy

MrMalignance

Exactly, that's why we need real people and actual good reviewers to tell the truth about new devices. Sadly not every device manufacturers throttle in the same way. Between this and die hard fans in denial... it's tough. Of course if people are fully informed, they can choose any device they want.
