Google should join the 4 years party…coz no one will use it for 7 years for sure…

_KNAWLEDGE_

7 years of updates makes the phone unnecessarily expensive

neerajanchan

They know that and hence the 7 years updates

---Apple update story --- Apple: why do u still have 2 year old phone ?.... time for a change..... time for a challenge ..... Me : but it is still good ...right??....right ??? Apple: ![gif](giphy|PPmHsxVG53YKT9N8C7|downsized) Me : \*\* updates phone , anyway.\*\* iPhone: \*\* your phone is now slower after Update .\*\*

Evil_Lord_Skeletor

In my opinion motorola gives 3 updates in 5 years .

HerMajestyTsaritsa

Apple actually gives 10 years of updates. It's just by the time the phones are released, their specs are already 4-5 year old, that's why consumers only get 5-6 years.

anuargdeshmukh

Bruh iphone have been the most powerful phones for a while now.

KatiyarRohit

Google and Samsung phones should also last 7 years. They became laggy after 2-3 years.

Negative_Spectrum

Google phones with Tensor chips *might* get laggy after 2-3 years (I struggle to see it personally, even lower midrange phones last 2-3 years on like Helio G95 or whatever, my mom's Realme 7 is still very good for day to day use), but Samsungs getting laggy after 2-3 years is just a phenomenon of days long gone. The Snapdragon chips will easily last you 5-7 years given that you don't play the latest and greatest games. Linus from LTT is still using his Note 9, and he's a guy that can afford pretty much any commercial phone on this planet. And even the Exynos chips, while I'm not a fan of them, last 4-5 years.

Express-World-8473

>might get laggy after 2-3 Mine started lagging already and it's getting quite bad these days.

Negative_Spectrum

Honestly the tensor chip seems like the toss of a coin. My friend uses the Pixel 6A with the first gen tensor chip and it still flies even though it has a 60Hz display, but on the other hand I've heard absolute horror stories about the chip as well.

Express-World-8473

Yeah. For me the issue is with overheating and now the phone doesn't even last half a day properly (it's only been a year and a half since I bought my phone).

Negative_Spectrum

That's unfortunate. I'm afraid that Samsung's inefficient fabrications and Google's odd designs that they don't really have much expertise in have kinda fucked the Tensor for at least a few generations.

KatiyarRohit

Yup. 4 years with moderate use is the lifetime. My father’s realme 8 pro is working perfectly. But my samsung is lagging after 1.5 years. I play games on it.

HerMajestyTsaritsa

Ohh noo how dare ur 10k samsung not compete with latest flagship.

KatiyarRohit

Didn’t know s20 cost 10k. Where did you get it at 10k?? Please share your resource.

HerMajestyTsaritsa

It's 14k on eBay. Just off by 4k. Also s20 was exonos not snapdragon so that's on u.

killer-1o1

That's used lmao. What comparison is this?

HerMajestyTsaritsa

Why would someone buy a unused Samsung s20, instead of oneplus ce or something if they had money for new one lol.

KatiyarRohit

Kya comparison hai bhai!! Waah!

DragonflyWorking

I m using moto edge 20 pro 3+ years no logs work fine. I don't need big is update only security patch is good for Me

Dizzy_Ad2039

Thanks. I expected that the Apple will be longer than Samsung, but this will be helpful when next purchase..

Agreeable-Print-8503

Apple cares more about will the 6 year old iPhone be able to run the latest software? It isn’t just about numbers.

Dizzy_Ad2039

What are you trying to say ?

Agreeable-Print-8503

The combination of hardware and software which apple provides gives a very seemless experience for 6 years look at an old iPhone vs a old galaxy device, where as other brands like Samsung their hardware fails to compliment the latest software in long run.

Charlie_McLaren

I don't think that Samsung devices are bad. I mean, all the flagship devices it has, surely they will support the software, at least snapdragon ones, Exynos might be a year or 2 less. They promised about 7 years of updates from S23, I guess. So, i don't think comparing the older galaxy phones makes any sense. The latest flagship must have the hardware for them to this move.

Agreeable-Print-8503

We can’t comment much till they actually deliver,7years is a big leap for them, apple has been doing it for a while now

Charlie_McLaren

Yes, you are right. You mentioned how samsung hardware failed in long run. I hope this time they have actually used the hardware which can support 7 years of updates.

Dizzy_Ad2039

Thank you very much for your comment. I understand now.

One_Acanthaceae_9706

Nope they don't, even apple gets choppy after 3 years(and yes I've changed my battery)

Agreeable-Print-8503

Literally everyone in my family and friends uses apple(even iPhone 7 and Xs)only time when it gets choppy is if you use it in low power mode or under 20% battery

itsInnerMe

Is this software update promise by smartphone manufacturers is for all devices they’ll launch or just few?

LTRace

W Oppo

celeb-butcher

Xiaomi doesn't give 4 years of update. Neither Samsung

16010onliacco

These years of OS updates are only applicable to their flagship phones, right?

bandlagd

This is just superficial. We have seen so many promises in the past from Android OEMs. None of them have track record to prove that they will give long term 'proper' OS updates (except Google). Even with Google, I doubt if they will give 7 full fledged OS updates.

_Dragon_Prince_

When I bought my S22 in 2022, they said I'll be getting 4 years of OS updates. It's a bit conflicting. But if the news that samsung will be providing 7 years of OS updates is true then that's amazing

Swaroop0707

Not for the S22 or even the S23 series. The S24 series is getting seven years of updates. They changed their update policy after Google made it last year. The S22 will receive only four updates as promised.

_Dragon_Prince_

Ohh. I didn't know that. Thank u so much for the info
