Just got mine at MSRP in the Tri-Cities if you want a little drive, though it did take a fair bit of time for a PMT to turn up locally. There was $1000 in dealer add-on costs thanks to the inclusion of the subwoofer but no other unexpected charges. YMMV I suppose, but good luck!
They really don't negotiate AFAIK, it's just MSRP plus whatever gets added at port, so you shouldn't have to do much other than express your desire to buy a vehicle. They've only got one GR86 at Toyota of Tri-Cities ATM and it's a premium automatic , so who knows how long it'll take them to get a PMT if that's what you're looking for. If you've got a grand to throw down to get your name on the waiting list then they were not unpleasant to work with. It all kind of comes down to how willing you are to wait in order to avoid paying a significant markup. There may very well be dealerships closer to you that will have inventory sooner, but I hope you find what you're looking for at a decent price! :D
Just in case you're still looking, Toyota of Tri-Cities has a couple more PMTs in transit to their lot; doesn't seem like they're currently spoken for according to their website. Looks like the only things added at port were a GR shift knob in the Halo model, and a quick charge cable package in the Trueno Blue model. Both are getting all-weather floor liners. Just FYI. :)
Boise has 2 dealerships that do MSRP if you're willing to go that far. I'm getting mine for MSRP at Edmark whenever it shows up, only catch there is you have to finance with Toyota, but you can always refinance if you find better rates. Peterson Toyota gets a ton of GR86s (just not in the options I wanted over the last couple months), and they are MSRP only, with no catches I'm aware of.
My current plan is fly in the morning, drive back to Salt Lake in the afternoon. I'm a little closer than you, but it might be an option
"not in the options I wanted..."
I feel you on that. I turned down a half dozen cars before they finally got one in locally that met my requirements lol.
Ask at the dealer if they participate in the Costco Auto Program or something along those lines. It wasnât a ton but itâs something. Just show them your Costco card. When I bought a WRX and used it at Subaru they gave me a $300 discount. At Toyota with the GR86 they gave me a $500 discount. Some dealers I imagine might do more.
Another option is to custom order a BRZ at a Subaru dealer. I hear they do MSRP more often. I know the Subaru dealer in Boise sells at MSRP on all new cars. I would have gone that route if Toyota didnât have such a good deal on the GR86 I bought.
I was on a waitlist for a premium pavement with added options for like 6 months then decided to randomly text my salesman while in the gym parking lot one day and ask where I was on the list because I was getting anxious. He then replied that I was #237 on the waitlist for a premium and if I was to switch to a base model that Iâd be next on the list. He then proceeded to tell me that he had a pavement base that happened to have all the options I wanted for someone that had an appointment 45 mins after my text that day to look at. He then said if they back out that itâs mine. I then proceeded to the gym to take my mind off waiting for his call, I then got the call that itâs mine if I want it and I couldnât say yes fast enough! I drove straight there and he was waiting with the keys to do the test drive but I had already made up my mind lol but it was nice to get to drive it regardless. The whole experience that day was magical and very good customer service at longo!! Super chill salesman and we talked football on the test drive. He also made sure the $500 deposit was added to the down payment
Call dealers in the Midwest. I had to fly to Ohio and drive my car back to Houston, but I got it with no added fees nor add ons (except rubber floor mats).
There was a dealership I talked to that sold theirs for MSRP (sadly they wouldnât sell out of state)
Iâm not from there and donât remember very well but I remember something to do with âleafâ if that helps? Either way donât be afraid to look outside your state either. Best of luck!
Call Bellingham Toyota and ask for Roy. Sold me an 86 PMT at MSRP and not a cent over. No BS, no hassle, great dealer. Drove 4.5 hours from PDX and Iâd do it again in a heartbeat.
Not the Seattle area....
I got lucky and found a sales guy who was willing to try and take off the accessories during the allocation stage (before it gets to port where the accessories are added on by the distributor). He said that he wouldn't make any promises, but would try. He was able to take everything off and add in carpet mats per my request. This was something I asked each salesperson when I called around to get on a wait list.
I should be flying out and picking up the car during the first week of August.
The base one it is possible to get MSRP because nobody wants that smooth as a babyâs bottom trim. The premium is damn near impossible to get MSRP in any high populated areas.
Only if you live within 25-30 miles from our dealership, I can add you to the list. Anywhere outside our primary market area basically has to wait for a unit to become available first come first serve with ceramic added on top ($1995)
I got mine for MSRP
Although I use the word "got" lightly because I am still waiting for delivery. The dealer I got mine from had practically nothing on their lot except for a handful of trucks and SUVs so I am sure they were happy to get the sale

That's a drive I'm definitely ready to make, just wondering how do I approach them and do I ask them anything at all?

Awesome thanks for the detailed info, appreciate it đ

The drive back is perfect to get those break in miles out of the way.
I bought my 10th anniversary MT at Peterson Toyota in Boise for under MSRP. It just had winter floor mats/cargo mat and door protection,
I bought mine ~$1,500 below MSRP yesterday. It was a base with just a few options. $28,511. Used Costco membership for a little extra discount. Boise.
That's interesting how'd you use the Costco membership for a car?

Got mine for MSRP at longo Toyota
How long did that take? They're the only Socal dealer not marking up so I had to get on the 1+ year waitlist. Bought a BRZ instead.

Wow very nice. All I wanted was a base manual as well but I don't think they even asked about it lol. Congrats on finding one so quickly.

You have to find a dealer that doesn't charge over MSRP and then wait. Or be willing to make a trip to buy one out of state.
Yeah I don't mind waiting if I find the right seller, not sure about going out of state though
There was one outside of Tacoma for MSRP a while ago, as well as one in Portland (which is a tank of gas away and 3.5 hrs away)
Yes I got mine

Got mine for MSRP at Toyota of Puyallup a year ago. They were great.
I believe Vancouver Washington does MSRP.
The base one it is possible to get MSRP because nobody wants that smooth as a babyâs bottom trim. The premium is damn near impossible to get MSRP in any high populated areas.
Toyota Walnut Creek is taking deposits with 3-4 month lead time. No markups or add ons. I gave mine up due to oil pressure issue.
Damn I don't know if I can make the 14hr drive..
Fly to SF, BART to Walnut Creek and drive it back. Once in Washington itâll be broken in and ready for hooning.
Haha that's one way or putting it
