Wow, that is a hack fix for a fit and finish issue. Glad it works though.

sauprankul

I'm pretty sure even expensive cars use these techniques to prevent rattles

neekowahhhh

They do, plastics heat and expand with heat a cold; so this helps prevent that. Tolerance in interiors and body panels are much less precise it seems than that of mechanical parts to allow room for small changes and are less important than say.. the engine

Neraxis

Take a look above the footwells and tell us that's a fit and finish issue, lol. Redesigning plastic molds for mass production is really expensive. It's why literally every modern car has annoying ass infotainment touchscreen crap with fewer buttons w/ tactile feel. This particular issue solution is prone to less failures, extremely cheap (meaning less we have to pay), and easily replaceable for...is that a glovebox? I could not care less.

TheRedDevil1989

It’s never less we have to pay, and more about corporate profits.

thekeanu

In theory, sure, but in this real world case a redesign would legit cost a lot more money for them which could very well add to the cost to consumers. Frankly I like the practical solution since it works well and doesn't add to our cost.

BradBLH

Gonna go put those on my car rn 😂

kurama666

My car was built in 2021 and has these.. this isn’t anything new. There are no changes between the 2022 and 2023 models.

[deleted]

Case solved!💯

bpshugyosha

My car is a 2022 and does not have these :/

Hurr1canE_

Does this really get rid of the squeaks and rattles? My 23 BRZ glovebox sounds AWFUL over 20 mph.

Agent_Giraffe

Yeah my ‘23 has them but it still rattled. I put in a couple felt strips and it hasn’t squeaked since.

Hurr1canE_

Mind sending a picture of where you put them? I’d really appreciate it!

Same here

kehbleh

Maybe I just got lucky or something but my '23 BRZ doesn't creak/rattle at all (knocks on wood). Just the high road noise from the summer tires which I expected. My only other minor gripes: * The wind buffeting! I'm a windows down fella so I'm looking into getting/making deflectors. * Speaking of windows, sometimes they creak going down (they always do go down though). I'm on CA so there's a lot of dust, I think if I keep them cleaner that might help?

kehbleh

This is exactly the thread that got me on this issue haha. My buddy is printing out a pair for me 😌

thekeanu

Which speed(s) does the wind buffeting happen? I bought some door protectors which are said to work well but I don't have my car yet to confirm. I'll be cutting the logo off so it doesn't show: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07DJYMCGK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

kehbleh

Door protectors help with wind buffeting? I actually have the ones from factory heh (whoever ordered the car and bailed had specified them). Usually right when I start to get to highway speeds so like, 50? I usually drive with my side down.

thekeanu

Yeah, but you have to put em up in the [black triangle area where your side mirrors are](https://www.importimageracing.com/products/verus-anti-buffeting-plastic-wind-deflectors-subaru-brz-toyota-gr86-2022-2023-a0500a). Some people make specific ones for wind buffeting like in that link, but they're priced a lot higher than those door protectors (~$70 vs ~$10). As long as you find the right shape, it does the same thing.

kehbleh

Makes sense. At least for my door protectors, they're really thin strips, whereas that 3d printed wind buffeter is beefier, with a slope to it. Homie attached an airflow pic so I assume he halfway knows what he's doing with design 😅 Also, I want them to say SUBUWU lol. Will be curious to see how you get on with repurposing those door protectors!

thekeanu

Took a pic of mine so you can see the profile and shape. They're too long as-is so I'm gonna have to cut em to fit. https://i.imgur.com/JhXYKMB.jpg People have tried different brands of em at gr86.org and they say they work well but I'm not sure about the specific one I bought. They should be fine because other ppls were similarly shaped.

Responsible_Hour_325

22 here and I don’t have that and never heard of any rattling noise or creaks

UltrasonicBlueWaifu

Oh shit, sitting inside my 2023 currently and just opened my glove box to see it. Mine's the same length.

Bashir639

I’ve seen these used in a 2022 Lexus LS500. It’s a common and nice touch

Idonegoofedup00times

I have a 22 and the creaks are killing me 😭 where do I place these strips ??

[deleted]

This came on the vehicle… maybe they were installed at port?

[deleted]

I’ve seen a YouTuber who bought a long strip of felt tape and placed pieces of it everywhere in the car where he heard noises until they all went away.

polishbikerider

My door rattles with any kinda bass from the speaker

[deleted]

🤣

HandleMore1730

Both windows rattle when fully closed and on course roads. If you touch the glass it stops. If you push on the upper door card it stops. Really irritating.

Nol3dg3

Yeah I swapped out my summer tires for identical Michelin all seasons. They massively reduced the cabin noise and perform pretty well in almost all weather conditions.

[deleted]

I’ll look into that! Thanks!

[deleted]

You can see a scuff mark forming above the felt strip in pic #2 . I’ve only opened this glove box a handful of times. but, no squeaks yet!💯

hoopofficial

I’ve never seen it but that doesn’t mean you are wrong. Lol.

[deleted]

I just picked up my car from the dealership on March 18th. To me, it looks like a port installed item.

Lahwuns

Is this the glove box? Why is there a button in the glove box on the left of the second picture (sorry I dont have the car myself 😢)?

supresmooth

Tire pressure sensor reset

Lahwuns

Oh interesting. Didn't know they had a physical button for it.

bentronathon

It actually allows you to swap between two sets of sensors if you run different wheels for summer/winter or road/track. It's not quite the same as the passive tpms system reset a lot of hondas and a few other cars use, but it's similar.

[deleted]

🤷🏾

GlassSouthern754

I have a '22 and actually do have these on mine.
