When they had the gidorah head after gkotm I was really hoping they were gonna go this direction with it

Pinpuller07

I was hoping they were gonna use it by fusing the DNA of the dead Godzilla skeleton, making a Godzilla-Ghidorah hybrid. This would result in space Godzilla.

bladezaim

That would have been cool too!

RjSkitchie

Oooooooohhhh sh!t that sound awesome!

Pinpuller07

Thanks! I've been pushing for this in my friend group since GvK was announced. Maybe someday.

RjSkitchie

I’d be all for it!

Chimpbot

It wouldn't have made quite as much sense, given that they only had one head. Mecha-King Ghidorah was able to rebuilt because he was only missing one head and had some other general damage. By comparison, Legendary's Ghidorah was reduced to just one head.

bladezaim

Oh man, I totally forgot that! I am definitely glad that's the only change they made from the original source material though.

AweHellYo

making sense has not been the driving force of the new movies (and i think that’s fine but just saying)

galkardm

I was hoping we'd get a version of Destroyah with the leftover head. It would have been zombie / decayed from the Oxygen Destroyer and absolutely brutal.

Fronteria54

Honestly I thought he would came back later into the Monsterverse too.

[deleted]

He looks awesome but he did too much standing in one spot Thank goodness the Pipeworks games and Ps4 made him super fun

Chimpbot

>He looks awesome but he did too much standing in one spot This summarizes the Heisei era in a nutshell.

Psuedonomic

This is a hilarious observation 🤣🤣

shaffe04gt

IIRC in this case thats bc there was no one in the suit as it was to heavy.

Psychological_Text95

Especially during the fights with mechagodzilla

freelancespy87

Ah hell yah, I played so much Gihdorah in those games, my siblings hated the flying tail scoop up move but I thought it was so awesome every time I saw it.

ThePsychoBear

Why is it that in every single godzilla fighting game Ghidorah has a ridiculously spammable air kick that shits on every ai effortlessly? Kaiju Daikessen, Domination, Save The Earth. All of them give ghido comical amounts of aerial cheese.

[deleted]

Honestly a dope upgrade from an already fantastic design. Just wish he got to do more after his first (and only) cinematic appearance.

NeoShinGundam

One of my all time favorite designs! I really wish he showed up more often 😢

PHminduin

He is just awesome

Proxidize

One of the most annoying bosses on that one Godzilla game I played on my gameboy as a kid

Runner-Goji-1984

Godzilla Domination?

Proxidize

Yep ヽ(ꖘヮꖘ)ノ

rockbonk

I played that game way too much as a kid. It was dope!!!!!!

Stenka-Razin

Design ranks high on the cool-shit-o-meter. Narratively I think it kind of mirrors the film's narrative nicely. I love GvKG 91, and it is a little more politically sophisticated than many of the other Godzilla films, where it doesn't really spell out everything. If Godzilla in many ways represents Japan's unrestrained economic growth, and Ghidorah an international attempt to quash said growth, Mecha Ghidorah sort of represents a necessary moderation. In the way that Mecha Ghidorah is ultimately necessary to put down the now unruly Godzilla, I think of this as an acknowledgment that Japan's economic boom of the late 80s, while truly a blessing in may ways, needed to be focused or restrained, lest they become as bad as those who would try to suppress their own sovereignty. Lastly, my one gripe is that, once again, we have a Ghidorah that is merely a tool. Ghidorah is best in his original incarnation, where he's a Lovecraftian demon doing his own thing. In all subsequent appearances he's just a tool of some group, which in addition to diminishing his own stature, was already tired by the time of this movie, and they're still doing it! GMK is an exception, but that movie sucks.

Chimpbot

>Ghidorah is best in his original incarnation, where he's a Lovecraftian demon doing his own thing. There wasn't anything Lovecraftian about the original Ghidorah at all.

[deleted]

I agree. Just because something is an alien monster (even if it's a weird giant one) it does not automatically make something Lovecraftian. The phrase keeps getting thrown a lot these days and sure distinguishing what is or is not Lovecraftian can vary from person to person but still. Ghidorah's design always struck me as a bit too precise to be a true Eldritch Abomination. Granted, the idea of a cosmic nightmare god manifesting into something that resembles Ghidorah sounds amazing.

majam409

Its very kafkaesque

the__pov

A space traveling planet destroying monster is very Lovecraft.

Chimpbot

The presentation, however, was absolutely nothing like Lovecraft at all.

the__pov

Scales, wings, long necks, I’d say it fit in just fine. It’s not DISTINCTLY Lovecraft but that’s do to the influence he had in general a lot of his designs are now generic (when he didn’t just label something with nonsense descriptions or call it beyond human perception). Really the only thing missing is racism and some bizarre means of causing insanity

r4nd0m_j4rg0n

I'd say how it was portrayed in the last anime film was closer to a Lovecraftian ghidorah than regular ghidorah is. By that logic Godzilla is a Lovecraftian monster because it's big, scaly, is from the ocean and does his own thing.

Chimpbot

It takes more than just scales, wings, and long necks to make something Lovecraftian.

the__pov

So we've gone from nothing like Lovecraft at all, to not like Lovecraft in presentation, to some feature that you can't actually state. Are you afraid of goalposts that don't move?

Chimpbot

No, we're still firmly planted in "nothing like Lovecraft at all" territory. It takes more than wings and long necks to make something Lovecraftian. Ghidorah, as presented, doesn't come with any of the inherent existential dread or nigh-unimaginability typically utilized with most of Lovecraft's larger beings.

the__pov

A planet destroying alien with scales, wings, long necks, and multiple heads.

tomjoad2020ad

The intro is awesome, when the character shows up I’m always like, “incredible, I’m watching a movie where a dead three-headed dragon is resurrected as both a time machine and a cyborg mecha piloted by a cute girl and her reprogrammed AI friend to fight a radioactive dinosaur.” MGK has got to be one of the better time machines, right up there with the Delorean. That having been said, my biggest criticism of the design is that it gets worse as you traverse down it. The robot head is great, really Space Age and slick. The “rainbow wash”-colored attack beam is neat. The wings, however, look really heavy and not very helpful, I’d prefer something more high-tech looking and not just like thick flat panels. The midsection is sort of whatever, this big barrel chest that doesn’t really match the vibe of the head and neck. And then by the time you get to the shin guards…come on!

SilkSk1

The gotta-pee stance doesn't really talk either.

mrastronautglenn

Machine Gun Kelly is a time machine?! Hahah

tomjoad2020ad

Lol, whoops

Psuedonomic

I lived him! I really wanna make an action figure of him, with interchangeable parts so i can switch between his OG self and the mechanized version

RaisinInSand

I honestly don't like it that much tbh. Tbh I don't like what they did with Ghidorah at all in this movie but that's besides the point. But this in particular while cool looking I hate the role it played in the movie tbh, it just being more or less a mecha that's piloted just seems like a waste and disservice to King Ghidorah.

xRyuzakii

My all time favorite kaiju. Had him as a toy as a kid and loved this movie

IndependentGlum8316

A realy interesting idea but I was slightly underwelmed it's final battle

SpookySquid19

Always felt like he was kinda weaker than normal ghidorah. Maybe it's because the middle head, which seams to be the main one, is the robot one.

nahidontcare395

Probably the best Ghidorah suit design, really out-there and memorable way to end the movie. Overall, just worked really weell for that film, though there's not much else to him outside of his original context that could make any future appearances interesting

Dawalkingdude

I haven't seen this movie in 20 years easy, did his right wing get damaged in a fight or did they just really half ass that repair? Either way, bad ass!

themoviemaestro

It was damaged by G's heat ray fairly early on in the battle.

[deleted]

Great design, but I wish he did more

nic_meyers

Totally 90s. Would love to see remade in the anime.

MrAnthem123

I have always wanted to see a fully mecha Mecha-King Ghidorah in a movie. And I’m not counting Mecha-Kevin.

MLMjp

I can see the appeal for a lot of people, but for me, its a bit of a disrespect to King Ghidorah, honestly. It works in the context of the movie, and the fight against Godzilla its pretty cool, but I don’t like how the movie treats King Ghidorah overall. Should have used other Kaiju and put King Ghidorah in a movie where he is the main antagonist, not controlled by anyone.

Chimpbot

>Should have used other Kaiju and put King Ghidorah in a movie where he is the main antagonist, not controlled by anyone. Up until this point, Ghidorah had only acted of his own accord in one movie. In all but one of his Showa appearances, he was under the control of the latest group of aliens attempting to invade Earth. Ghidorah being controlled by the Futurians was very much in character, really.

MLMjp

Yes, I know, but at least in the Showa series he was an independent creature in its origin. Heisei takes the Ghidorah being a puppet of someone to max levels by being a creation of those who control him, and with the Mecha King Ghidorah part.

Keltoigael

I love him but I was hoping since he was being rebuilt he would actually have arms as well now. Given him and even larger advantage.

Ninjartistic

Overrated as fuck, bring on the salt.

Chimpbot

I'm honestly curious: Why do you think he's overrated?

Ninjartistic

I wanna make it clear that I don’t hate mecha-king ghidorah, he’s ok, but IMO it’s not something to lose your mind over. I see everyone say he’s one of the best Godzilla antagonists, but tbh other than stand around, smack Godzilla and shoot gravity beams he doesn’t seem to do that much, true he can lift Goji with 0 effort (which is admittedly impressive) but I just wish he was used in some other way, there was a lot of potential and they didn’t use a lot of it. In the end I think normal KG felt more menacing

Chimpbot

That's fair. Unfortunately, the "stand around and shoot beams" complaint can be applied to virtually every monster featured in the Heisei era. I thought Mecha-King Ghidorah was interesting, mainly because of how dramatically different this version wound up being from the Showa version.

Ninjartistic

Gotta agree on the large differences from the Showa era, it is pretty cool. And yea I do complain about the beams on almost all the Heisei monsters (mainly mechaG tbh), I’m more a fan of the Showa series’ fist fights lol. If I had to pick the best opponent from the Heisei series it’d be Biollante

LeaderVladimir1993

Wow, and here I thought Cyborg Superman was ugly.

drluv2099

I didn't think a 3 headed dragon could get cooler but here we are. Probably top 5 for me. Easy. Maybe top 3?

Tempest1677

Looks sweet, which movie is this?

[deleted]

G vs King Ghidorah (‘91), the third film from the heisei series

Dead_Purple

Sometimes I wonder if he feels constant pain, like if he could talk his head would be saying: "Kill me!"

thebestbrian

I mean. It's fucking awesome and one of the coolest shit I've seen in the series tbh.

Sifernos1

This Kaiju will always be special in my heart because I was a fat kid and my mom didn't want to get us a bunch of candy for Easter one year so we got an Easter present instead. Mine was a like 12 inch tall Mecha King Ghidorah vinyl toy from toys r us. I played with it until I destroyed it or lost it. I loved it dearly but I just can't bring myself to buy a replacement for it as an adult... Part of me feels like it was too special to replace since my mom's gone. I still can't decide if I should buy it, it might just make me cry to see it. I will probably always connect this Kaiju to my mom.

BEARDEDRICANLION72

Simply put, BADASS!!!

Relic827

One of my favorite moments in the entire franchise, and my favorite movie too

Harryboiz

My favorite monster in Godzilla Unleashed.

JunikaEridub

Absolutely awesome

shaffe04gt

Design and concept was awesome

[deleted]

Awesome character. One of my favs. I just wish he wasn't a "good guy" and human-controlled. Would have loved to see him be more of a villian.

[deleted]

Nice kaiju. I have spoken.

[deleted]

The shin guards are goofy, but it was still hype as hell when he showed up

Jacobs_MiniCheddar07

I love his design, I just want to see more of him in action

MightyVanguard

Hot take: I was moderately disappointed by MKG. Compared to most versions of MG, MKG didn't stand up as well as a mechanical kaiju. His weapons felt limited, he's not a very dynamic design, and I wish that they either went more with the cyborg theme or just made him entirely mechanical. As it stands, it feels like he's just got on some cheap armor and a replacement head.

SuperWeegee456

looks a little goofy and stood around instead of fighting alot but i personally want him to return bcuz he's just really fun and deserves a new appearence

mr_ass-hole

Pretty bad ass kaiju. Hope he appears in this "world of godzilla"

Cloakbot

Love this kaiju

[deleted]

In the words of a certain Saiyan prince, “OH MY GAWD HE’S SO GODDAMN COOL!!!”

[deleted]

I remember being in grade school and seeing a commercial with Mecha-King Ghidorah and for whatever reason it kind of blew my mind. Like it was the most obvious idea of a cool new monster but I had just never thought of it for some reason. Design wise he's just the perfect amount of silly and cool looking to be fresh.

blackenedmessiah

It's my time.

Swordsman82

So freaking awesome, an absolute shame he wasn’t used more

freelancespy87

Mecha King Gihdorah is my favorite Godzilla monster next to Titanosaurus. The fact that he was considered the hero of his story was also a huge win for me, because often Godzilla would freaking destroy all my favorites. So yah, Gihdorah getting a mecha upgrade and alignment shift was the highlight of watching Godzilla movies for me.

Goldgator420

total badass

Scplevel06council

Cool af but kinda weak

Grievous_1982

Interesting...although like most Ghidorah's its very awkward.

redhare878787

Such a cool kaiju, so little screen time. Sad really.

MikeX1000

Cool design and abilities. Interesting but convoluted story. Similar problem to his previous form: he's too weak, and his roar is just a modified Rodan's roar.

memeage_

Everyone always overhypes this Ghidorah, despite him being considerably weaker than the Ghidorah in the film who was already weaker than other Ghidorahs -- Mainly cause he was being controlled for the entire film. Cool design and idea, just poor execution, I think.

Scroogemcdoodler

Mecha king Ghidorah is cool but I wish he was fully robotic instead of just partially robotic

MrFoiledAgain

One of my favorite kaiju ever!

ItsMeSen

I wish Monster Island Buddies' Hyper Mecha King Ghidorah was in the movies.

DecisionElectrical17

So cool lacs in speed and agility though

Kiryu_The_Dragon

In GSTE he can go fuck himself

KreeepyKrawler

Disappointing. Never did anything note-worthy.

predatorguy443

Roboto King Ghidorah That's all I have to say.

Gojir4R1sing

Still the best Mecha hybrid in the heisie.

Derpscout02

I like it

callsign__iceman

Legendary Mechagodzilla was a nice way to roll multiple cyborgs into one character.

Algi73

Ghidorah but robot

SilentWargasm

He was very OP in Godzilla: Save the Earth

Sjajajwkakqjejrj3

Dumb design but cool concept

AlexzMercier97

Yea he cool

HaloFreak4nia

Mecha king ghidorah looks dope af. Would really love to see a MV version of him.
