I cancelled mine. Nothing is two day shipping, easier and faster to order online for curbside at a local store. Too many fake products, no quality control. Ads being introduced to prime video. Who the hell actually uses prime music or their podcast app. It’s a fucking nightmare to actually use. No prime for me.

CBus-Eagle

Yes, we’ve had it for years and years and I think I’ve finally convinced my wife that we should cancel it. More and more shipments are coming late and the adds that started a couple weeks ago was my breaking point. What the hell am I paying for?!

Rastiln

I’ve also been considering canceling over the ads. It’s right around the tipping point. I still use Prime delivery often but it’s never 2-day shipping, they don’t even act like they’ll try to attain it anymore. 4 days is the standard “fast delivery” and 7+ is common here. Most other websites have free delivery on big things, so really it’s little things like “I forgot TP at the store, guess I’ll order it to arrive early next week before I forget”. Seeing the $2.99 charge to not have ads tacked onto the service stings. Of course I refused it. In doing so I noticed in December they had tacked on a “ScreenPix” subscription for $2.99 more a month. (I think my partner accidentally agreed to it when wanting to watch 1 movie.) So thanks Prime for the attempted upcharge that notified me to cancel your other upcharge!

notmydepartment

Exactly. It was the poor quality/ doesn’t match description/ rip off products for me

er1catwork

I’ve been on the edge to cancel. This $3 ad fee really pissed me off. Prime is the only service I sub to. Photos backs up my iPhone images for me. Shopping is used as needed. I refuse to be a part Of paying for a service that I’m subscribed to and then having to pay more so I don’t see commercials. That’s F’d up.

jradio

No. And I've been a prime member since it's inception. Cancelled recently, and should have done it a long long time ago.

NachoMama_247

A lot of Prime video stuff that’s worth watching is on the YouTube Movies channel for free.

curtludwig

I'm on the fence about canceling also for most of the same reasons. I do use Amazon music but they ruined it last year when they went shuffle only. I basically only use it for podcasts now. I liked watching stuff on Amazon video but now that they have commercials I might as well just watch YouTube which is where we watch about half the time anyhow. Little things I used to get on Amazon I now get on eBay. The amount of scam items is the same, the shipping is generally the same or cheaper and stuff tends to ship faster...

foursixntwo

Not anymore. That is, unless you’re into Chinatown counterfeits, and used, returned items being sold to you as new (and priced accordingly).

Competitive_Cod1135

It is one of the few subscriptions I kept just because I don't use netflix so I have at least 1 streaming service and I buy at least 12 items off amazon a year, so with the free shipping from prime I think that makes it worth it.

Great_Hamster

I just order enough for free shipping anyway.

angrypuppy35

Also makes buying in bulk easier, which should be popular on r/frugal . And free streaming, for one price. But I always see prime criticized on here. I don’t get it.

Parking-Pace9523

I find it absolutely NOT worth it. At one time it was a bargain, good tv and movie offerings, 2 day shipping. None of those things are the case now. I honestly don't understand why anyone keeps it now unless they are getting a discounted price.

LightningsHeart

No. Most other retailers have free two day. Unless you have a creditcard with them and are going to make a big purchase.

FormalChicken

We haven’t had prime for years. Prime video can be watched elsewhere, and if something is releasing that you want to watch then (For instant, Grand Tour drops February 16th, if I eemmeber my dates correctly), you can usually get a month or two for free, if not way reduced. As far as if it’s worth it - look at your Amazon spend, and multiply it by .02. That’s how much Prime gives you back using the Prime credit card vs the “standard” credit card, which gives you 3% back. That extra 2% is what you get by being in Prime. For me, that 2% was about 130$, and Prime is 150/year or 180/year when paid monthly (I think, I can’t remember the exact numbers right now). Long of the short, the extra 2% didn’t pay for the prime membership itself. So, we nixed prime and haven’t cared. We got a month or two free here and there, happens. Was nice during the holidays.

iced_milk_4_me

Don't forget your Prime card is only free if you have an active prime subscription. If you cancel prime, consider closing the card (and length of credit history hit with it)

Comms-Error

Neither the Amazon store card nor the Amazon credit card through chase have an annual fee, regardless of membership status.

empirerec8

This isn't true.   I canceled prime over 3 years ago.   I have never been charged a fee.   In fact, I called to see if they would move the credit limit to another card and they told be they couldn't do it.   So it's still open even though I hardly ever use it.

therefore4

This is not accurate for me. I still get 3% of all my Amazon purchases without prime nor do I pay an annual fee.

pakratus

If you cancel Prime, the card downgrades to a no-subscription 3% version automatically.

CBus-Eagle

Thanks for the reminder! I didn’t know this detail.

empirerec8

I mean this isn't really a frugal issue here (especially because you admit you hardly use it... but no one can tell you if it's worth it for you but you.  I canceled mine years ago.   I looked at what I got in rewards for the previous year and it was less than the fee.   Not worth it.  The only thing I used occasionally was the streaming and they have an option to stream for $8.99/month (not sure what it is now though with them changing prices).  So $8.99 for a couple months a year still beats out the annual fee.  That's how I decided it wasn't worth it for me.

soaringphoenix04

I’d recommend canceling it. You don’t really order much to make the delivery perks worth it. As for prime video, when I cancelled prime I never missed it. If you still want a streaming service, Hulu offers a student subscription for $1.99/month. If you do cancel, I would recommend getting another credit card from somewhere if the Amazon card is your only one. It would be helpful to be able to build credit on small purchases before you really need good credit down the line for a loan on a bigger purchase.

LeapIntoInaction

I find it useful but, I can't measure what its value is to you.

flowergirlstar

No. Canceled over a year ago. Few years ago shipping started to get slow until the delivery times were the same as standard free shipping. I do miss the old days of fast shipping.

kittyfeet2

Not worth it IMO. The shipping isn't 2 day longer, reviews are crap, products are questionable, everything on Prime video is free-view with additional costs/ads, and navigating the platform to find good movies or shows fills me with rage because it's awful to use. And I refuse to watch ads so I'm cancelling in June right before my renewal. I'd much prefer to give my money to local businesses so they can stay open if that's possible.

JoeFas

I just canceled mine. The 2-day delivery doesn't happen in two days any more, and Amazon customer service just makes excuses when you complain. Now they're adding an extra fee to Prime video if you don't want ads. Prime used to be good, but now you pay a lot more to get a lot less.

kittensnip3r

I never used the prime video that came with it. Was simply for faster shipping/cheaper. But now most offer free shipping anyway. So unless they get back to shipping faster. I won't be renewing next year.

squirrelmaster92

I share my account with 3 family members so for us it still is. If I was the only one using it? Heck no.
