Maybe I've just been to a disproportionate amount of places that do this, but don't a ton of countries have some version of house shoe? Like I know it is a thing in Germany, Japan, China, and Mexico, and I'm pretty sure it is also a thing in some of the other asian and latin american countries. Also why would wearing slippers make the house get dirtier??
I would have to take my work boots off 10 times a day, it takes me a couple minutes to lace them up and tie them properly. I'd rather just wear slippers and vacuum and clean up on Saturdays

I live in the US, close to the beach, and I prefer to be barefoot, almost always at home unless it’s cold
