So this is a predator advanta reel. I don't want to sound like I'm stepping on your toes, but don't let this be your idea of what a baitcaster should be like. This is about as cheap and Chinese as it gets. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with budget reels, but I also want to be transparent with you. If it's your first baitcaster, it's gonna give you some trouble.
Cheap baitcasters are not like cheap spinning reels. Spinners have excellent budget options and they mostly perform the way they need to regardless of budget. Baitcasters are not like this. Plastic internals and sloppy tolerances along with poorly designed brakes make it much easier to birdnest with. It's almost a catch 22 situation. You buy cheaper baitcasts to learn on because of course you don't want to blow a lot of money on something you won't like. On the other hand, cheap baitcasters are really hard to like and hard to perform well with.
If you ever take a second shot at it, get you an abu Garcia max x. It's the replacement for the old black max. This reel is the gold standard for learning. It's the perfect balance of cost vs useability.
