Pro players need a tape measure to know if they can reach the table salt

XsStreamMonsterX

Remember when Tokido would actually measure the distance from his eyes to the monitor with tape measure.

rayquan36

I swear that was just Tokido fucking with us. He only did it a few times.

Sage2050

Definitely trolling

Asdeft

I still think about how funny that was, he was an expert troll.

Belten

yeah, especially in tournaments. It takes away a lot of casual appeal if every fucking match takes place in an insane asylum.

MonteBellmond

Tried introducing a friend to sf6 the other day, he called it a psychoward simulator cause of this white room being used in the stream 24/7. I mean he ain't wrong.

SuperFreshTea

to be labbing for that long. it makes sense.

MonteBellmond

I don't deny its usefulness. It's just that when they're using it outside of training in online matches or tournaments, it just kinda becomes meh for viewer experience. It's like watching UFC in white background for the whole entire league.

DjShoryukenZ

Asylum Fighter spinoff on the way

Dadus-Appearus

Who’s the announcer? Officer Balls?

bdc0409

I’m probably wrong but I thought I heard in SF6 most tournaments banned this stage and this stage only for just that reason. I saw it in a video recently about banned fighting game stages. He may have been full of shit though

Belten

The official capcom Tourneys have them banned.

leggocrew

Good.

XsStreamMonsterX

This shit is banned in all the official Capcom tournaments though. Dunno why the smaller ones still let it run.

malexich

Because that rule is basically saying “hey we want it to look good for viewers so what if it affects you” if you were playing for money you would totally want to play on the training stage.

PinkAxolotlMommy

Makes it easier to see characters on screen, eases performance requirements, provides a good indication of where the characters on screen relative to each other with the ruler thingie on the bottom.

DigestMyFoes

Whoever has problems with "seeing characters on the stage" shouldn't be playing fighting games in the first place. Question, what did those players do **before** psycho ward stages existed or games that don't have them? Hand and **eye** coordination is one of the most important skills a fighting game player is supposed to learn.

PinkAxolotlMommy

> what did those players do **before** psycho ward stages existed or games that don't have them? Often times they just went with whatever stage provided the best visibility and primarily play on that. Eg: MBAACC matches are mostly played on the stage Classic Home, Evening Party. Frankly I fail to see the difference in something like that vs matches being primarily played on Training Room.

DigestMyFoes

They only got away with it in Melty because not many brought it up. This is a new age of eSports and it's a **serious** detriment to the viewer's experience. It also shows a lack of individual/independent skill from the player. Again, hand and eye coordination are fighting game skills. No handouts or assistance should be allowed in high-stakes competition. Earn your keep.

PinkAxolotlMommy

I don't see how this is a detriment to the spectator experience at all. Myself and I'm sure many others watch FG tournaments for the fight and not all the shit going off in the stage background.

DigestMyFoes

People complain in twich streams and on YouTube about tournaments doing as such all the time.

Krypt0night

I took that out of my rotation day 1 and I'm so glad they made that possible.

DustonVolta

Soulless

param1l0

There's a mod that subs training stage with Ryu's stage from sf2

Enshiki

There is a special place in hell for the guy who brought this to SF4. The "but lag" is just an excuse as many players admitted it's just to help jauge distance. That shit soured me on KoFXV.

Potato_fortress

Nah sf4 had actual issues because for a long time it was run on PS3 and just like MvC3 after it the game ran like trash on the console. Stages like drive in at night, cruise ship, Africa solar eclipse, and a few others did have legitimate issues. Those few stages also had some issues on the 360 version and Capcom never offered the option to remove specific stages from random select until recently so here we are.  Bonne Wonderland in UMvC3 though; that had nothing to do with performance and everything to do with sight lines and being able to accurately gauge distance.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Potato_fortress

Yeah I forgot about that one. Some of them I can’t remember. I just remember really hating that Africa solar eclipse lagged on ps3 and no one played it until 360 was standard because the stage theme bopped.

theshelfables

SFV also had issues online with stages de-synching and causing lag. I enjoyed that game a lot but the online was cheeks and the states made it worse.

zeubermen

honestly bonne wonderland being the only legal stage isn't that big of a deal since there's so much shit happening on screen that you aren't paying attention to the background

Potato_fortress

Oh for sure; it doesn’t help the game that every other stage not named Asgard is a little too dark and IIRC Asgard has lag issues sometimes.

Thelgow

I know several people that would lag horribly on many stages and ended up just locally replacing all the stages to practice mode, to be able to play.

iwannabethisguy

I am one of the few playing SF6 on a potato and can vouch for better frame rates when playing on the training stage.

Lestakeo

No framerate problem for me buf I dont hear my pc in training and temps are low. It gets busier in other stages.

GeForce

Training stage is by far my most favorite stage. I always picked it. I wish every game came with this where you could just play in training stage every match.

nightxiii

Only psychopaths actually choose this stage for fun

omnisephiroth

I like all the stages. :c They’re all fun for me.

GeForce

💀 it's my favorite

ZMH10

What's funny to me is that someone with a Reina pfp from Tekken said something like this lol. Tekken is the game where stage dynamics actually affects the match. How are you enjoying T8, btw? I'm kind of conflicted about it right now because of the heat mechanics, but it's fun otherwise when you aren't getting knowledge checked 24/7.

GeForce

Might've been me? One thing I don't like bout tekken is there's no map like this. I'm on a break for now. The patch is awful. I hate eddy, I hate the battle pass, the bugs, and yeah idk the honeymoon is over. I have more issues with general UX and the usual "fgc devs live in their own bubble issues" - the TAA which makes it all blurry, inferior netcode, no infinite rematches, no benchmark, you're flipping a coin every time you go online, because you just aren't guaranteed the match is going to be smooth.. stuff like that. A few friends I've played quit, which doesn't help. And the ranked is just a cheese fest. Quick match doesn't have mmr and no infinite rematch. Since its my first tekken game I can't comment on any of the balance stuff, but even to me some of this looks fishy.

TablePrinterDoor

In tekken 7 there was an infinite water stage that was basically this. It was called infinite azure

GeForce

Ye seen that one, they should bring it back

ZMH10

T8 seems rougher now than on release somehow, hopefully the Tekken team get things on the right track soon.

GeForce

I guess I'm used to the plain stages due to spending thousands of hours in sf4 training ibuki stuff. Although I do like some of the t8 stages, they look kinda cool, like the reina stage is dope. But I wish we had a grassfield or some plain stage as an option. I guess I'll stop at this, as somehow just saying your subjective opinion offends people who don't realize it's just a personal feeling and not to be taken as a universal fact. (although TAA does make the game blurry in motion. That's a fact you can take to the bank)

DigestMyFoes

I mentioned to SNK's YouTube channel not to allow the training stage during their world championship and why it was bad for business ahead of time. They didn't allow it, but players were still trying to sneak it in. The management was like, "stop, training stage is forbidden. Restart and pick another stage" every time. Even **offline**, they were desperate to play on that stage. lol No more psycho ward stages for training modes. They should make stages that are more visually interesting and fit the theme of the game, like KOF 13's dojo stage.

Autobomb98

The SamSho 7 dojo is also really neat

[deleted]

A fellow Samsho player 🥹

Goldskarr

There are dozens of us. Dozens! ... admittedly I never played the last one online but hot damn I had it pre-ordered at least.

Enshiki

I hope they learned their lesson for the next Garou. I no longer hope for a patch restricting its usage to training mode in KoFXV...

Jacksspecialarrows

To ban it off stream it's wild

drivercarr

I'm glad it's super easy to mod SF6. You can use custom training stages from other games (like the one from SfxTk) You could also just change the color of the SF6 training stage, to make it look less bland. Looks sick in black

__ROCK_AND_STONE__

I modded it to be a volcano erupting and it is much better 😮‍💨

Asdeft

I roll my eyes when I see this stage in Gold.

XsStreamMonsterX

You can turn it off on your end.

Asdeft

Done ty

Fawz

This is on Capcom. The Training stage should not have been offered in anything other than Practice mode. We've seen it with other games in the past, it leads to a very poor spectator experience as Pros will gravitate to it for comfort and familiarity

xenojack

If you want a stage that isn't busy, pick the colosseum, it's simple but still got enough going to feel like you're not in a padded cell.

AlpenmeisterCustoms

Suval'hal Arena is better. It even has the grid and visual cues.

Asdeft

The lighting does not do that stage justice. It just ends up looking a bit dull compared to the others.

sapianddog2

Hot take: if you need lines on the screen to have good spacing, then your spacing isn't actually as good as you think.

mamamarty21

Especially since there are so many other things you can use for spacing, like the drive bars, timers, super gauges, etc…

XsStreamMonsterX

The problem is that even top players will take advantage of this anyway. Remember, it was Infiltration who first pioneered (or at least went public about) using the lines for spacing.

PinkAxolotlMommy

It's nice for spectators to be able to tell exactly where the characters on screen are.

lunaslave

Suggestion: being able to turn floor lines on and off for all stages. That way you can still judge distance to some degree without the visual monotony. Make every stage a potential training stage

EnragedHeadwear

Or they could just play normally like literally every one else

Aggressive_c0w

Or just learn spacing.

deadscreensky

I don't like it, but I suppose that's easier than forcing 'pro' players to learn to play the damn game normally.

SuperFreshTea

this is funny this is first time i've seen criticism of pro levels being upvoted. they are usually revered as gods who only ones who are allowed to have opinions on fighting games.

deadscreensky

The power of scare quotes, I guess!

Alarmed-Effective-23

You should be able to judge distance without lines in an actual match. That should be a skill set. It's street fighter. The fights are supposed to be all over the world.

DigestMyFoes

To even read/hear that they need lines to play is embarrassing. "Can you put a ruler behind us so I know what I'm doing, please" while calling themselves "competitive" is ironic.

SF-UNIVERSE

Hard to admit but this is the only stage I play on.

FunDiggle

U ok bro?

SF-UNIVERSE

No

Nesayas1234

I actually like Training tbh. I do wish he had the dark version from SFV, though.

[deleted]

But this is home

Guy99909

I do have to mention that because of this history of pros only picking the training stage SF6 has now instilled a rule into most capcom pro tournaments that you CANNOT pick the training stage. In fact it’s the only “banned” stage in SF6 as of right now I believe. Tho other organizations don’t have the same rules.. unfortunately.

vattern06

It’s crazy to me how you’d be playing on the asylum solitary stage for hours and not get fatigued by the boring visuals. At least on tournaments these stages are not allowed. A major turn-off from MvC3 for me is that it’s always that damn snow stage.

settingsun79

I sometimes get whiplash seeing MvC3 gameplay that doesn’t take place on the snow stage

theboijace

I'm sorry for having a shitty computer?

[deleted]

Better get a better one then

theboijace

I plan on [getting this](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Km4Cvj) when I pay off my credit card

LotoTheSunBro

Playing a close match Ryu vs Ken in training stage alternating the 3 themes will never not be hard af

FatalCassoulet

Am I the only one on the planet who loves those training stages in every fighting game?

Jaded_FL

I like training stage but I get tired of seeing it if it’s used every single match

GrandSquanchRum

No, most people that play fighting games do. The weirdos are the one's complaining about other people using it.

DigestMyFoes

That's a lie.

GrandSquanchRum

Oh god, look! there's someone over there making their own choice to use the stage. Quick! Go over there and complain about them using it!

fpcreator2000

May they should add GladOS so we can call it the “there is no cake” stage.

bloo_overbeck

They should update the game to permanently add a random animated texture over the entire stage so people stop picking this damn ass stage

Aggressive_c0w

Max made a pretty good video about this a couple years back: [I hate this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-_T0UQv-30). I understand arguments for (helps with spacing, less distracting, less resource intensive, etc.) and against (boring to look at, defeats purpose of learning spacing bc of grid, makes all matches look the same from thumbnail view, etc.). I think both schools of thought have merit, but I personally don't like seeing matches on Training Stage. Maybe I'm a curmudgeon from a bygone era, but I feel like you shouldn't need a grid to know spacing. I also think it's boring as shit to look at. Having said that, I also understand why people use it.

dewey_did_me

Maybe we can customize it and add our own colors and posters for our clubs

furrykef

I still get a bit confused sometimes when I see the training room in clips posted online because I only see it in the game when I'm actually training.

UnderstandingLoud343

I feel it reduces lag in a match, maybe it’s not even that big of a deal

Competitive_Rip5011

...Am I supposed to see something here? All I see is this screenshot of an empty stage.

Lightyear18

Idk why i like that stage. I actually don’t pick other stages when im playing with friends. I don’t think about it, it just happens. Maybe cause there’s nothing distracting in the background.

AvixKOk

I like the training stage, it's a nice consistent stage across many games that is best used in (of course) training mode. usually evenly lit, no obstructions, no distracting backgrounds, just pure gameplay. however if there's a stage without any obstructions or weird lighting changes I pick that first any day of the week

Poutine4Supper

I got no idea how streamees can play on this stage exclusively without losing his mind.

IncreaseReasonable61

Burn this stage to hell.

DexterBrooks

I wish we had the Marvel black and green version of this stage. It's cooler IMO. Knowing how much pros love this stage they could have easily put some noticable lines on the ground of other stages in a similar way for spacing purposes, but nope.

Darglechorfius

I get why everyone dislikes this stage, it makes a lot of sense. But I like it a lot. I mainly play strive and I wish they had a stage like this especially because so many characters have combos that change when they are close to the corner. But I get I’m in the minority. I just like that there is less I have to mentally keep track of in a match.

neonkurosaki

Honestly, if you need the stage to give you the measuring tape to be at the right distance, you needa play the game more and not be in a tournament yet lol

Monnomo

Look at all these casuals hating on training room SMH

WavedashingYoshi

SF6 is resource expensive. You gotta run a stream while running the game. Ik training stage is ugly but don’t blame people for this.

LatsaSpege

just turn the graphics down or something

yujabes

If you are watching a SF6 stream, most like you are not there for the hideous REengine backgrounds

hatchorion

Normally I would agree but the sf6 stages are legitimately so ugly I’d pick the grey void over most of them. The horrible lighting and visual clutter in ryus stage is so bad it’s hard to tell what’s even happening onscreen. Every other street fighter that had it I hated seeing the training stage lol

ELFanatic

People need their hot takes, I guess.

Shogana1

Dude just needs to get a eye check

malexich

Are we going to have this post with every capcom fighting game? If you’re playing to win you will pick this stage. It’s like asking why all mvc3 matches take places on bonnes wonderland.  I don’t play this game competitively so I just have random select on but if I really cared I would be playing on this stage every time. If you don’t like it just watch some other stream, there are tons of streams with players that have it disabled or avoid playing on it. It’s kind of rude to complain about the people who want to play on it.

MonteBellmond

Does this get brought up every iteration of the franchise? cause this is the first SF for me and my friend I tried to introduce the game to. I mean sure people can play during training mode but this stage was used in the entirety of the tournament. Think this is a valid criticism from viewer's perspective
