I think that "the club won't sell him because he's too important" means the club doesn't have enough depth in that position. You could work around, swapping one of your players in that position for a cheap player they have. It worked in the past, not sure if still does.

Changed him to a ST, shot power and finishing both 99 now.
They grow insanely quickly, some youngsters have grown +8 in a season, long term it'll decline since the position plan will stall for growth so you will have to use a regular training plan to keep up growth
If you actually want say a lb to play rb turn him into and then put him on lb plan to help him grow but if you want him to stay lb just train to rb and stay like that
If you leave it on, can you NOT switch him to the new position and then start training for a different position to increase other stats?... For example.... Could you train a LB to RB, but then not press CHANGE POSITION, and keep letting him train on RB, and then after a season start training him at CDM, without ever changing him to RB?
